Awesome location. We went in winter and while the town definitely slowed down the hotel was very peaceful!

Staff were all very helpful and friendly.

Probably the coolest hotel I have stayed at.

Would also recommend the 4 course meal at least one night of your stay!!

Travelling with family from 🇨🇦. Visiting castles was on the wish list, but staying at one, was a dream come true for some of our group. Burghotel Auf Schönburg Oberwesel was an amazing experience. There isn't enough room on Google reviews to say how much we enjoyed our stay. It was absolutely beautiful! The rooms were clean, spacious and well appointed, walking around Burghotel Auf Schönburg just led to one adventure after another. The view and gardens, breath taking. The breakfast was everything you could want. The staff, amazing and friendly. A trip into nearby Oberwesel is a definite must as well, such a friendly little town. Would definitely return in the future! ❤️

One of our favourite stays on this trip. We chose Room 47 (with a balcony overlooking the Rhine River). It was absolutely beautiful. The room was extremely spacious, decorated in a charming vintage style, with a gold-themed bathroom and Penhaligon’s bath amenities, which was a delightful touch.

Our stay included a 4-course fine-dining dinner for 2. If you don’t have a very big appetite, a 4-course meal is just right. We were already struggling to finish by the end. The wine had a lovely honeyed finish (perfect if you enjoy something on the sweeter side). The dinner was French cuisine. While it would have been even more special to experience traditional German dishes, the food was good overall. A little salty, but we noticed this across several places in Germany, so it may simply be a regional preference.

A quick tip for travellers: if you choose not to wait for the bus and think you can push your luggage uphill from the train station, it is doable. We managed the full 3 km with 2 big luggages and no shortcuts. However, it is a steep climb, so I would strongly recommend enquiring about their shuttle service instead. It will save you time and energy, especially if you arrive after a long journey.

Do note that the castle has only stairs leading to your room, with no lift access. Be sure to check the timing of their bell service in advance so you can get assistance with your luggage if needed.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. We couldn’t explore the castle garden due to the weather, but the castle interior more than made up for it. We met the 2nd and 3rd generation owners (father and daughter), and they were both lovely and welcoming.

The only negative moment during our stay was an encounter in the tea room. Guests are allowed to wander around the castle (and you absolutely must visit the library and defense wall). But when we walked into the tea room area, we were approached by a hostile elderly lady with short hair who questioned us rather abruptly about why we were there and even asked to check our room number. It felt unnecessarily hostile, especially considering that guests are encouraged to explore freely.

Aside from that interaction, our stay was truly memorable. I would still highly recommend this castle. The atmosphere, the rooms, and the overall experience are worth it, and I hope others will enjoy it as much as we did.

We have traveled all over the world and this is one of the most beautiful and romantic places we have ever stayed at. Right on the Rhine River, enjoying a drink on our balcony was awesome. The staff was incredible and the food was delicious! Can't say enough about this place.

We had a lovely 2 night stay at this property in the Standard Room, Bathtub (this little cottage-like room was beautiful and quaint and the bathtub was very, very nice). We had breakfast both days in the hotel and it was lovely with great options for food, great service, and beautiful scenery. On arrival, we were checked into our room quickly and they offered to bring our bags in. There were delicious snacks and drinks in the room for us to enjoy and great dining and drink options offered through the day (for purchase). We spent hours in the guest-only garden exploring and hiking, spent hours sitting out overlooking the picturesque Rhine River that runs through Oberwesel. On our second day, we had arranged for a wine tour through the hotel with a local vintner and would rate it 5 stars! We did not get dinner at the hotel but the views from the dining area are unmatched. Overall this was a fun and very unique lodging experience that I’d recommend for anyone to stay in! It did help that we had a car and drove ourselves from the Frankfurt Airport - very convenient to so so! We made a day of our travel out and stopped by Burg Eltz too to fit more in!

The castle is located on a hill, and with good weather, it's perfect for taking amazing photos. The surrounding environment is wonderful, ideal for hiking, sunbathing, and watching boats and trains go by. The rooms have a medieval retro style, full of details, making for a fun experience. The only downside is that the shower water pressure is a bit unstable, but it's not a big deal. It's very quiet at night, and you can see many stars. Breakfast is a buffet with various breads, sausages, cereals, fruits, and drinks. The staff wear traditional clothing, which adds to the experience. Highly recommended!

Absolutely stunning. A beautiful, luxurious stay with an expansive view of the Rhine, Oberwesel and vineyards. And if the view is not enough, the rooms are so amazing. Multiple windows with beautiful views, you'll never want to leave. So worth it.

The restaurant 4-course menu is so delicious and accommodating, I ended up booking dinner for the rest of my stay after the first night. The service is lovely, all the staff are attentive and speak excellent English. 5 stars all round!

P.S. if you are staying here and not driving, organise a taxi (in ADVANCE) directly to the Burghotel as it is a steep climb up the hill from the train station. There are no taxis waiting in town so book it the day before you arrive.
