Continental Palace in Kos Town

This is NOT a 4-star hotel despite what they claim. It is the quality of a 2-3 star hotel at best. The beds are rock hard and only possible to sleep on if you do something like add blankets from the wardrobe under the sheets to make them barely ok. The furniture and fittings in the rooms and bathroom are very out of date and tatty looking. There was decent pressure and hot water in the shower. However, bath is so narrow that you end up sticking to a horrible plastic shower curtain. The food is far below what you would expect for a 4-star hotel. Staff in the restaurant don't seem to care about guests and are more interested in chatting to themselves and ensuring that you pay for drinks at dinner in a fairly unfriendly manner, including water (not cheap and very expensive if you ask for fizzy water - no doubt this will get the standard response that oh water is expensive and needs to be shipped in- however if you go to a local taverna they give you bottled water for free often at the end of your meal and in local supermarkets you can get bottled water for 70 cents to €1 for 1.5 litres, there is also a water dispenser for breakfast that they could leave on for dinner. However, this hotel likes to cut corners and charge you extra for anything that they can). and aren't at all friendly. I wouldn't eat any of the eggs for breakfast. They taste horrible. Cooked fish and meat dishes for dinner were quite bland, chewy and didn't seem to taste of anything. Air-conditioning is turned off in the dining room, lobby and communal bathrooms downstairs making the hotel unpleasantly hot and humid. They won't open up the dining room to allow outside dining.

On a positive note Irene on reception was absolutely fantastic and a pleasure to talk to and so helpful with suggesting things to do in and around Kos. She was absolutely the employee of the week during my stay. The hotel should recognise her hard work more and use her as example of how to deliver 4-star+ customer service on reception and elsewhere in the hotel.
