Apollon Windmill Hotel in Kos Town

Arrived after midnight for a 10 night stay, half-board.
Was allocated a really small room just above the kitchen.
The noise from the kitchen woke us up early the next morning.
We asked to be moved to bigger room, which was granted.

The breakfast was good & there was a variety of choices on offer.
However the evening option was far from perfect.
The food was of poor quality and often over salted.
The restaurant was soulless,
due to being half empty.
The service was slow.
We enquired at the sister hotel for the use of their facilities, mainly their buffet style restaurant.
They said we couldn't use it? Although it was mentioned on their website.
Shame we took them at face value.
There was no information at our reception or from the receptionists.
The welcome back was basic.
Lack of communication
Little information on our food & dining choices.
Poor quality of food.
Slow restaurant service.
Spolit the whole holiday experience for us.
In hindsight we should have chosen the bed and breakfast option. We chose to eat out most nights which increased the price of our holiday which we had not budgeted for.
We later found out that we could have used the sister hotel (The Apollon).
They just do not advertise it.
We shall not be revisiting the Apollon Windmill.
Very disappointing.

We stayed at this hotel in Greece recently, and while there were some nice moments, the overall experience did not meet expectations for the price charged.

The check-in/check-out system is very guest-unfriendly. Rooms are only available from 3:00 PM, but you have to leave by 11:00 AM. Breakfast is till 10.30 so this means you should run
If you want to stay just a little longer,

Like 1 hour they don’t accept even the room is available
But until 14.00 PM, they charge €50 extra. For a hotel in this price category, that policy feels unnecessary and unfair.

Upon arrival, our luggage was placed in the storage room, but no receipt or tag was given. This left us wondering how secure the process really was and who would take responsibility if something happened to our belongings.

Communication from the front desk was another weak point.

I asked Cindy about arranging a taxi, and her response was, “It could take 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or an hour.” This was not helpful at all, and in the end we had to arrange a taxi ourselves. A receptionist should be able to organize such a basic request with ease.

As for the rooms, the standard was below expectations: no tissues, no laundry bag, broken bathroom bin, bottled water only provided on the first day, and visible insects without any preventive measures or solutions. For €300 a night, I expected much more attention to detail and comfort.

On the positive side, breakfast was the highlight. The lady serving, Maria, was full of energy, warm, and genuinely welcoming. She left a great impression every morning. Unfortunately, the breakfast cook was the opposite, always with an unfriendly expression, which affected the atmosphere.

In general, this hotel seems to be operating with minimal staff while charging premium prices. With better organization, proper training, and higher service standards, it could be worth the cost — but at present, it simply isn’t.
