We stayed at this hotel during our trip around Iceland and found it to be a comfortable and convenient stop while travelling the island.
The self-service check-in was straightforward, although the booking information mentioned a latest check-in time of 9pm. We rushed to arrive before then, only to find there was no reception and entry was simple regardless - so it would have been helpful if that was...
We stayed at the hotel for one night. The room was comfy and the staff very helpful, but the location and view were what truly stood out. We even saw northern lights just outside the room, quite an incredible experience!
Small but clean rooms. Private bathroom. Nice full kitchen and tables in basement to cook or store your food. Easy check in. Central location to walk around town.
Rooms are small, but the community kitchen was nice and it was located near local restaurants. The views around this area of the mountains and waterfalls is stunning!!
This property is located in a quiet place. We drove into a parking lot labelled with the name only to discover that registration was half a block back. Other guests helped direct us where to go. The hotel looked liked it needed a coat of paint but inside it was a spacious set of rooms. Good amenities (tea, coffee, small refrigerator, separate sitting room, lots of outlets to charge electronics...
The room is sufficient for laying your head down but is much too tiny without enough room to open luggage. It is clean and has a cute communal kitchen but should be advertised as a rooming house or hostel in my opinion.

Small room, nice view.
The coffee shop near by serves great bakery!
I had a fantastic stay here—the scenery was absolutely beautiful, and the accommodation was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was very well-equipped and practical, making it easy to prepare meals. Having a washer and dryer provided was incredibly convenient. Highly recommended!

Comfy and warm guesthouse. Host is very friendly & helpful. Located at quiet and serenity area. Walking distance to a waterfall place. Snow mountain can be seen clearly from our room.
Staff was very helpful and nice, the hotel equipped with laundry service. Location is perfect and the room is just renovated, clean and kitchen is well equipped. Highly recommended
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Seydisfjördur Guesthouse, and it was an outstanding experience!
The guesthouse is located in a picturesque setting in West fjords that perfectly captures the charm of Iceland. It offers a tranquil escape, surrounded by stunning mountains and the beautiful fjord, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.
The service provided by the staff was exceptional...

Maggy was incredibly helpful. She accommodated our late arrival and she went out of her way to let us know before we left that a portion of Ring Road had been washed out overnight by a storm, which made it impossible to get to our next destination. Her kindness in letting us know gave us a chance to head back north around Ring Road to make sure that we made it back to Reykjavik in time for our flight...
Lovely place. Quiet and quaint. We didn’t meet any staff as the keys were left in an envelope. We didn’t have any issues. The room was clean and appreciated the coffee maker/pods.
A nice & good accommodation. Great location, just next to lake and Seyðisfjarðarkirkja Church & rainbow street. Highly recommended.
Guest house is lovely converted old building in the scenic small port of Seydisfjourdur. Room was very attractively furnished and very clean. We had room with balcony and sea view overlooking the lagoon, though weather very wet and windy whilst we were there so didn’t get the most out of these. Host very helpful, and several options for eating in the town. We had a very pleasant meal at El Grillo...
This should be one of the most comfortable hotels I've stayed at during this trip. The stunning lake and mountain views are truly exceptional, and it's also conveniently close to the famous little church.
I even had the privilege of witnessing the Northern Lights while enjoying a beer on the balcony at night. I believe everyone should definitely not miss this place.
By the way, The apartment...
It's a family hotel. When you arrive, the owner will leave the key at the door and you can take it according to your name. The famous Rainbow Road is right at the door and there are restaurants next to it, which is very convenient. It was here that we caught the Northern Lights. The staff at the restaurant next door suggested that we drive the car a little further out so that it would be easier to...

Convenient to restaurants and shops in town. "Filling Station" restaurant next door looked great in photos, but closed for family trip when we were there. Kitchenette available for guests. No host, but key code sent by email for lockbox. Large room.
We arrived in the evening and we had no problem getting our key from the lockbox. The access was very clean and our room had a nice view of the waterfall in the distance. The rooms are spacious and quiet and we did not hear any of the other guests all night.
Parking is no problem and there is a convenient gas station next door.
The location is great, but the guesthouse itself is very small and not suitable for a stove in the middle, as the Chinese were frying fish for an hour, and our entire room was filled with a terrible smell. My husband threw up from it; the smell was unbearable. In such a small house, the only thing you can leave is a microwave.
The kitchen facility was clean and handy for making a quick meal or tea. The rooms are clean and updated. The beds were comfortable and the location is near to shopping and food. This has e writhing you need for an overnight stay like ours, or for a couple of days if you are making day trips from this area.
Excellent place ; very clean ; tidy kitchen ; request to keep some milk or milk powder for the coffee
It's an acceptable place for staying one night but nothing charming about it. Rooms are clean and beds are very comfortable.
There is one shared kitchen which is too small for all the rooms and was crowded at dinner time. It has a very small dishwasher to leave the dirty dishes in, but in the morning was full and running so all the dishes were laying dirty in the kitchen sink.

The Aldan restaurant serves as the headquarters for the 3-house hotel. Neat and clean, the restaurant is staffed by beautiful Nordic goddesses who are as friendly and cheerful as they are helpful. Advice: eat early when the ferry is in port. Menu posted below. Looking forward to my next visit in May 2026
I ordered the Grilled Beef Fillet on Yakitori with roasted baby potatoes, beef jus, chanterelle mushrooms, and a cabbage roulade with bacon. Frankly, I wasn’t expecting much from a restaurant located right off a hotel reception area. However, to my surprise, the entire dish was outstanding.
The steak was cooked perfectly medium-rare, tender and flavorful. The potatoes had a wonderful crispiness and...
We enjoyed an amazing supper here for our 10th anniversary celebration. The whole town is beautiful, and this restaurant was a highlight of our time here. Nice setting, cozy atmosphere, and delicious food! It is definitely meant for the experience of dining, and it was approximately two hours from entering and to leaving, but it was well worth it. The Grilled Cabbage starter was wonderful and the halibut...
Didn’t stay at the hotel but stopped by for coffees to warm up on a few different days. Good music, comfortable, nice view from inside. We returned to the same spot as they had very large cups for the lattes and swiss mochas for the same price as elsewhere
Our group was divided into super nice cottages of this hotel. We, being 4 people, received a very big and nice apartment, fully equipped, we were pleasantly surprised. And the breakfast was good, quite varied. I recommend!

Spent a night here on our Ring Road trip around Iceland. Lovely family run farm that has a guest house for travelers as well as Icelandic horse riding tours. It was a nice change from staying at hotels and the first time we really got to have some conversations with the knowledgable people who actually live here. Part of visiting a country is also getting to know the people… but it is easy to be distracted...
Guest house outside the village, with horses and possibility of horseback riding. Cooking facilities.Must leave shoes on a rack at the entrance. 6 microscopic rooms on second floor, single bed for two, with one side leaning against the wall. This was our favourite accommodation of our two week vacation in Iceland. The area is stunning, accommodations clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and it was lovely to chat with the family who are all welcoming and informative. We also did a horse ride which was amazing, felt safe and got to see some more of the beautiful area. I would highly recommend Skorrahestar!
My husband and I did a 1 hour tour here and had a great time as this was our first time ever riding a horse! The ride was very easy and the horses were super gentle. The views were phenomenal! Passing cows, wild flowers, and walking along the stream. The guide was very friendly and patient. She also gave educated us about Iceland along the ride.

Generally I don't really write reviews but this location just showed us what Iceland is all about. We got trapped here due to a snow storm and roads got closed. It's alover a good stay. Very kind and helpful hosts. Breakfast is very good. Rooms are big, well headed, comfortable and sparkling clean. Also in winter time, in January, they are here, with all you need. Hot tube is open. They are for Islands kindness. We love this land and come back.
Cabin was an aged but comfortable. Bathroom small but private. Hot water was came out extremely hot and had slight sulfur smell, but pretty unique experience to be using thermally heated water for the first time. The staff was helpful but had stretched thin with large tour groups. The dinner was very good and reasonably priced, as was the hotel.
Very welcoming staff. Hot tub wonderful. Breakfast was great and bountiful. Great night of northern lights.
I was 3 times at this hotel this summer and every time there was problem at check in. I wrote email upfront to hotel that rooms need to be prepared for 2 people not for one, they replied that everything will be ready on arrival. We stayed here for one night, and asked for an upgrade to a private cottage, which we did get from the lovely and friendly reception staff. Excellent stay at Hotel Valaskjálf! The hotel is clean, comfortable, and welcoming, with well-appointed rooms that make it easy to relax after a day of sightseeing. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the location is convenient for exploring the area. A great balance of comfort, value, and Icelandic hospitality. Highly recommended!
The hotel is nice, everything is pretty clean. The staff is friendly. The beds aren't very comfortable, the mattress is soft, and there's almost nothing to eat for breakfast. A refrigerator in the room would be nice.
I can’t understand how can someone say that the room is small and has “many” stairs.. it is literally 15 stairs to the room, which is very spacious as you can see in the picture.
Breakfast was good but only from 07 to 09, st short and not been able to check in befor 16:00 and then have to check out at 10:00, not good.
The bar had very poor selection
The hotel is conveniently located near restaurants, supermarkets, and numerous gas stations, making it convenient for self-driving travelers. The front desk staff was helpful, not only helping an elderly person with their luggage but also offering information on the Aurora Borealis sightings at night. The breakfast was varied and delicious.

Very quaint, comfortable and cozy hotel. It is modest but with an old-school Icelandic taste. We had all we needed for a good stay. Our windows faced beautiful mountains and the area itself is a small charming fishing town.
It was easy to find, cozy and quiet.
The house is on the roadside and is very easy to find. I live on the second floor and it is very inconvenient to carry my luggage. The room is very dark.
The best restaurant in the town! If you miss some Asian food or want something different from burger and pizza, this is your best choice, a 3mix Thai dishes. It has salad, spring rolls, fried shrimps(a lot), fried chicken noodle(which I found the best), rice and two sauces. Totally cost only 2900kr, which can fully comfort your stomach by the Thai chef here. I will definitely come again🥰🥰😋
P.s. free...
This is only about the restaurant: food and service was amazing!!! They saved us from going hungry after the other restaurants in town ran out of food. They even stayed open later just to accommodate us. Takk!!!

The hotel was clean, staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Although this town is quite far from the ring road, it was a pleasant stay.
Food was extra expensive but it seems to be a norm in Iceland anyway.

Very good place clean and big parking
So charming and I loved the lake monster. She was a wonderful host. The ambience is like a cozy luxe cabin. The restaurant was so delicious. Good sushi in Iceland with LOCAL wasabi was not on my Arctic bucket list but slay. Very generous/kind reception and wait staff. Breakfast buffet was wonderful. To top it off, the spa was so relaxing! Wonderful sauna, hot tub, and ice bathe for a cheap admission...
We booked this on the fly and were not disappointed. After a bunch of hours driving, we arrived here to find a very sweet hotel on the lake. The view out back said "come on in." One of our favorite places to stay during our 10day trip on the ring road. Kitchenette well stocked, comfy beds, able to do laundry. Highly recommend.
Due to an unexpected change in U.S. visa policies, I was unable to travel. The host has been very responsive and flexible throughout the cancellation process, which I sincerely appreciate. I would choose this hotel again if I have the opportunity to visit Iceland in the future.
Clean spacious room. Kitchenette perfect for making a small, hot meal. Just down the road from Vok Baths
I like there is a microwave in the room. Also there is laundry in building for people to share.
Adequate. Very limited check-in window of time.
Absolutely impeccable place with everything you need for a good nights stay. Hostess was wonderful. Quiet place. Washer/ Dryer was free which was a huge plus for us. Reasonable prices. Would stay there again and recommend to others.

Stayed in a camping pod. The rooms themselves were pretty cute and cozy, but they didn't come with any linens, only one blanket and a pillow with no pillow cover. You could rent linens for 2000 ISK. In the shared restroom, the toilet itself was clean, but the bathroom was not. There was no soap, and the paper towel dispenser was out. It was cute, but I wouldn't stay again.
Great cottage with good facilities, good sized bedrooms and a patio. Shower was also excellent. Easy to find, check in, park and a short drive to the town. Stayed for two nights as a family. One minor complaint was the smoke alarm was on the kitchen counter without a battery and we got no reply from the owner when we messaged about this.
The rooms are fairly basic, but offer everything one needs for an overnight stay. You can even make some coffee, it has a refrigerator, which was convenient to store our things. The place is clean, the check-in is easy and the location is easy to find. There is a large parking space in front of the house.
The guesthouse is in the middle of road 1 near Eglisstadir where you have gas station and convenience store. The room is spacious and there’s enough parking space outside. The shower is excellent and there’s bed is comfortable. Amazing view from the porch. Very good experience
Amazing location — 5/5! The hotel was clean and comfortable, which I really appreciated.
Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi wasn’t working during my stay. That’s a major downside, especially for travelers who rely on it for work or planning.
Fix that, and it could easily be a 5-star experience.
Space with everything a traveler could need, from a microwave, coffee maker, and an excellent table.

Booked it in the last minute and glad we got this property
It’s a must visit and I would come back again
This hotel is very suitable for vacation and leisure. It is located in a forest. The front desk drove a golf cart to deliver our luggage to the door of the room. The hotel is a bit far from the center of Egilsstadt. The breakfast is average with few options. The dinner is okay, but the steak is too old. The chef came out to greet us personally and replaced it with cod according to our request.
There's a lake next to it, but the view is average. There's no kettle, so you have to go to the front desk to get water, just like in college, and you have to walk outside to get to the front desk. The bed is small.
There are very few things in the room, no kettle
The view is first-rate, the room is average, the service is good, and the breakfast is terrible
Very clean room and breakfast is good

My friends and I loved this place. So roomy and lovely. I will never forget the conversation I had with the owner. She learned that I spoke Icelandic, so she asked me one or two questions and told me I sounded just like an Icelander. ☺️
Ekra cottages is an amazing place to stay for a couple of days. It is quite difficult to find it in the map but its possible. The owner is very friendly & lives 1 km away from the cottages. This place was ok for a one-night stay, but felt pretty cheap for a hotel that actually wasn’t that cheap. We got a room with a private bathroom and ate at their restaurant area since they have no shared kitchen space. The food wasn't good at all, but the staff was extremely friendly and let many people order food even though the kitchen was supposed to close. We decided not to stick around for breakfast...
Great stay
Stayed here for two nights in August and had a great time. We didn’t do the breakfast but we did dinner one night and it was great (I had the vegetable soup, highly recommend!). Only con was the radiator seemed to be on and it wasn’t hot enough for that
Little away from the town Eglaistar but beautiful. Nearby there is Studgil Canyon viewpoint 53 minutes
We stayed in one of the cabins and there was plenty of room for the 3 of us. Comfortable accommodations. The area is beautiful and quiet. Staff were helpful and breakfast was great. We only stayed 1 night on our trip around the ring road but we would have been comfortable staying here much longer.
It was quiet and peaceful. The cottage was a bit warm and there were no screens on the windows, so we had to close the windows so bugs wouldn't come in. It was clean and the staff were very good .
Warm and welcoming staff and reception desk. They let us check in late, as we arrived late, so we really appreciated it. Clean rooms at the cabins, you can feel privacy here. surrounded by mountains and forest. Really enjoyed the stay there.
