Hotel La Ville in Catania

Terrible experience. Booked a Superior Room. It was dirty and gloomy (only 2 small wall lights). Room had a disused kitchenette in it (the hob and sink were covered in torn sticky backed plastic). Light switch had a sticking plaster over it. The bathroom was dirty. We tried to complain but no-one spoke English. We had to find another hotel. We were classed as a "no show" (despite producing our passports, paying the tourist tax and carrying our cases up 3 flights of stairs) so the hotel won't refund us, also we cannot leave a review with the well-known company we booked with. The immediate area around the hotel is run down and dirty. Avoid at all costs!

Thought it’s close to the town the neighborhood is in very bad shape, there are many homeless and it feels not save to walk around.
The room it self was also in very bad conditions, the curtains falling, there was a kind of kitchen also in very bad shape, which should be removed and rather, it should be some sofas. The television screen was of a size of a transportable computer, all the programs in Italian. The cabin for the bad looks not cleaned. We rented the room for two days and we left after the first night. We took this option because all other hotels in the center area were fully booked. If you go to Catania remember to check the hotels in good time. I didn’t like the central area of Catania. All the buildings are in bad shape and it gives the impression that nobody cares about the city.
By the way the hotel as you to pay a “special city tax” about 10 to 15 euros, besides the already agreed amount and they don’t provide a documentation of it.
All in all a bad experience.

Update: We stayed with family over the Christmas '22 holiday. Sleazy and dark neighborhood. Both rooms occupied on the second floor were completely without water either for toilets or for washing. As requested upon arrival, Paid the entire stay in advance, but given the situation, left already the day after arrival. Manager absconding from our complaints by not answering the countless phone calls made. As soon as we returned from the ruined holidays, we forwarded a formal refund request via letter sent by our lawyer, but it was rejected due to 'unknown address'!!!
