Hotel Taisei in Kagoshima

Are the walls thin? I could hear noises from next door, which was a bit bothersome. Other than that, the room was clean, and the front desk staff were very helpful, so overall, I'm quite satisfied.

A classic Showa-era business class hotel with a beautiful lobby. Features and amenities were standard for this class. The room was quiet and with careful management of the window curtains and heat pump comfortable enough on winter nights. Wifi/Internet was fast. There was a noticable odor behind the toilet where it's hard to clean, and though it was hard to see while standing, sitting in the bath revealed a ring of mildew on a seam of waterproof wall around the tub, which was no big deal but a surprise in an otherwise clean room. I'd probably stay again because the price on my package deal was competitive, but was disappointed to find that the late check-out service was not available for the stated fee (or any fee); I may not have communicated my request correctly to the night front desk clerk the evening before check-out morning (night three of three), the first such denial received at a Japanese business class hotel, and so you should probably inquire at check-in if you think you might require this so that there are no surprises.

The tram and Kagoshima Chuo Station are both close by, making it convenient for everything.
The nearby Annex Hotel will store your luggage and lend you umbrellas.

It was nice to be able to use the large public bath in the annex. The room wasn't very spacious, but it was sufficient for business use.

The hotel is about a 3-4 minute walk from Takamibashi Station on the Kagoshima City Tram in Kagoshima City.
It's also close to Kagoshima Chuo Station, making it convenient for dining and shopping.
While the building itself is old, there's a water server and coffee machine behind the front desk that guests can use free of charge.
Amenities, with the exception of toothbrushes, were chosen from a table next to the front desk and taken to go.
There were a few inconvenient points, rather than issues that bothered me.
Luggage cannot be stored here before check-in.
You must store your luggage at the affiliated Hotel Taisei Annex, located a 3-4 minute walk away.
The front desk is also closed in the morning, so you must take your luggage to Hotel Taisei Annex.
This may be unavoidable in order to cut labor costs, but as a guest, I found it inconvenient when encountering rain or strong winds.
The room itself has a workspace for working on a laptop.
However, the Wi-Fi environment was poor, with frequent disconnections and timeouts making it unusable.
These are areas that could be improved. Concerns
The shower water pressure was fine, but the stop positions for the shower and faucet were a bit awkward, so when I came home from outside and went to the bathroom, the water was still running.
The faucet switch would be fine if it was tight, but it was loose no matter which way I turned it, making it difficult to adjust.
I think repairs are necessary to prevent the water from running continuously.
The walls were thin, and I could hear the escort next door, so I couldn't sleep.
The front desk staff were very helpful and explained any questions I had clearly.
Prices vary greatly depending on when you book, but I might use it again if it's cheaper.

The Japanese Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics met at the Prefectural Community Center.
Campaign cars for the House of Councillors election were also driving around. The room was comfortable, and even though we stayed multiple nights,
it was thoroughly cleaned.
We went to Makurazaki to see the portable shrines at the Ogion Summer Festival. We spent about three hours tasting at Shiranami Meiji Brewery.
In front of Kagoshima Chuo Station, we went to Kagoshima and other places. Beer Fest Amami 🍺🍻⁉️

Even though this is an old hotel and it shows in its facilities and overall design, the service and amenities you get as a solo traveller is worth thw price you pay for an overnight stay. The room is clean albeit small but sufficient. Some points to take note if you're planning to book:

This is close to the central station so it's juat a block away from major shopping and transport options.

The hotel closes its front desk and doors at 11 pm to 7 am. Checkin before 11 pm. Going in and out of the hotel at that time is possible if you use your key card to open the front doors.

Walls are thin and it's very possible that you would hear your neighbor.

There's free coffee and drinks at the lobby.

The location is very convenient, about a 7-minute walk from Kagoshima Chuo Station. There's a mains bus stop next to the hotel, making it easy to get to the planetarium. Luggage storage is available at the hotel next door.

The hotel is clean and close to the train station. The staff is friendly. However, communication in English can be somewhat challenging."
