Kokuminshukusha Rainbow Sakurajima in Kagoshima

Interesting Japanese onsen experience. For western travellers is a nice way to get insight in traditional onsen culture. Food was so interesting at the restaurant downstairs. Recommend for anyone wanting onsen bath experience, peaceful stay by the water, great views. Really enjoyed cycling around the island using the hotel bikes.

- Great location. it takes about 5 minutes by walk to get here from sakurajima ferry terminal.
And also, there is a bus stop in front of the gate.

- Room is little bit old, but it's clean, includes adequate facilities and has a great ocean view.
ocean view room is non-smoking room but there is a smoking area in the 2F.

- Great meals. good quality and quantity.

- Staffs are really kind even towards foreigner tourist.

- Good hot spring, but you should use a coin locker with a charge (around 200 to 300 YEN) to keep your valuables. hot spring can be crowded in day time.

Very nice hotel with an ocean view! Attached natural onsen, and great breakfast.

Lovely onsen, fantastic room.

Easy 6 minute walk from ferry. Incredible value for off season rate in late March that included an multi course , visually beautiful Japanese Kaiseki dinner and breakfast made of thebfreshest, delicious ingredients and served by a delightful diningroom staff.

We were the only Western tourists there, but the reception staff know enough English to graciously assist you. They were kind enough to check us in 45 minutes early on a rainy day, without an extra fee.

The onsen attendants didn't speak English and were a little flustered when we showed up to bathe at 8:25am (it closes at 9:00am) She tried to discourage us from entering, doubting that you will be done in time, but we pantomimed that we understood and would be done well before 9:00am.

Unfortunately we had a very noisy family with children next door to us who didn't quiet down until 10pm.

Futons in the room are thin, so we stacked them two and three high. Room had lovely water view. Easy access to the 3km path along the bay for wonderful birdwatching, feral kitties and lava geological features.
