Riviera Hotel in Amman

If they allowed me to stay for free I wouldn’t recommend this place. The hotel is filthy, they don’t bother to change the sheets from previous guests and the staff and owner are careless. They “lost” the remote for the AC unit so they provide a fan instead and the power outlet in the room did not work as well.

The location was great. The room was okay. When I arrived and showed the receptionist my Agoda reservation, they said it was for the Riviera Hotel, but this is the Riverira Hotel (the i and e are reversed), so they told me my reservation was for a different hotel. It does indeed say Riverira on the door. I searched for the hotel for over an hour, but the Agoda map was confusing and I couldn't find it. I checked Agoda again and found a photo of the exterior that was identical to the hotel I'd just been to, so I realized it was the same hotel and was able to check in without any problems. I wonder why I couldn't check in normally from the start. I'm exhausted, after all.

A warning to all women! I was there with my husband, and we had two separate rooms (because my husband snores so much). The guy who usually works at reception and speaks some Spanish asked me if we were having marital problems. Even though I said no, he came to my room three times during the night, knocked on the door, and wouldn't leave. The first time I didn't react, the second time I told him to go away through the closed door, and the third time I opened it and asked, clearly displeased, what he wanted. He mumbled something about it not being cold and telling me to close the window. I then locked the door, but the door and the lock didn't look very secure. I did eventually tell my husband, and when he told the guy not to disturb me, he claimed he only wanted to tell me to close the (already closed) window because it might rain—but there was no sign of rain on a clear, starry night, and besides, my window faced a partially covered walkway, and not a single raindrop would have even come close... So, if you're a woman traveling alone or not sharing a room with your partner...

The cleanliness leaves much to be desired—there were long black hairs in the bed and small cockroaches in both of our rooms. The carpet is old with burn marks and various other stains and smells musty.

Otherwise, the staff is friendly, the location is great, the rooms are a bit plush but well-equipped, however, the ones facing the front are noisy, while those facing the back are completely enveloped in the greasy and meaty smells of the famous and constantly busy falafel and grill restaurant, Hashem.
