Honestly, I didn't encounter any bad experiences staying in this hostel. I ended up staying here twice due to affordable price and its location that's close to Pavilon Park (less than a mile walk). One thing that pissed me off was that the receptionist who barely speaks English; we'd always use Google Translate which sometimes didn't help at all. The room was okay, so was the bathroom, but I really liked the kitchen where they have all the utensils you might need for cooking.
If you are traveling on a budget, I would recommend this place!!

Located in the city center, a little over a kilometer from the Catholic church, it's on the ground floor of a residential building. The ground level is higher outside, so it feels like it's half underground. Toilets, showers, and kitchens are shared. There's a driveway outside, but it's not noisy. The cleanliness and quietness of the interior depend on the number of people living there at any given time. The service is so-so, and luggage storage costs extra.

Unfriendly to Chinese people. The location is okay, but they don't check in or drop off luggage before 2 PM, which is very inconvenient. The bedding is made of synthetic fibers, very thin and pilling. The shared bathroom is small, with only one shower room.

The room was basic, without curtains, offering little privacy. The sheets and duvet covers were old, and the service was poor.

I had a wonderful 3-night stay at Alma-Ata Hostel! The place is clean, cozy, and has such a warm and welcoming vibe. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful, and I especially want to mention Gulzari—she’s always smiling, friendly, and ready to assist with anything. She truly made my stay feel like home. The location is perfect—close to shops, restaurants, and public transport. And the best part? It’s budget-friendly too! I highly recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Almaty. Thank you for the lovely experience

Stayed total 7 night out of my 10 days backpacking trip to Kazakhstan. Rules are quite strict here, one needs to keep quiet which i honestly did not mind.

If you are in search of a hippie place where you can play loud music and drink then kindly avoid.

Superb location, shared kitchen which is big enough for everyone.

Only recommendation I have is to atleast keep some fans in rooms, at night , felt burning hot suffocation.

Also consider have storage facility for some charge, it will only help the business.

I personally did not have any issues with the main owner or other staff. All were helping when asked.

Had an absolutely terrible experience here.
There was a bed bug in my bedding so I showed it to the woman who accused me of lying. I showed her the time and date the photo was taken (5 minutes before) and then she told me it was a beetle not a bed bug. Then she tried telling me it wasn't from this hostel. Well I can tell you that yes, it was from that hostel, and no, I am not a liar. We left within minutes, highly unimpressed.
Other bad things included: we were waiting for 15 minutes outside when we arrived, rang the bell a lot, if it wasn't for a guest letting us in who knows how long we'd have been waiting.
Secondly, it feels like a military operation - so many strict rules.
Thirdly, they make it very clear there is 'no luggage store!!', this was particularly unhelpful for us as we were flying late evening the next day so needed to store our luggage. This is a hostel and it doesn't offer luggage storage? Bizarre

Steer clear of this hostel, I'd recommend Golden Square or Hostel 64 - much nicer establishments with lovely staff (I could post a photo of the bedbug but i'll spare them that courtesy)

A lady who manages the hostel she is very rude. She doesn't know how to talk with guests. I stayed there for one week because I Had no option 😭. Others staffs are good. During my stay many guests cancel their booking after check in and go back to another hostel. This is my first time I am giving this type of review but literally She should learn how to run a hostel and trat with guests.
If owner is reading this review I will request please teach her to be polite.
She took my phone and gave review on Booking.com without my concern....
Because her very bad experience.
