Any negative review is just complaining about the distance. Let me tell you.. the distance is a huge plus!! No cruise tourists anywhere. This hostel is fantastic. It's quiet but still socialable. Everything is clean and well maintained. The family who owns the place is very welcoming and great hosts. If you're nervous about the distance, you can rent bikes for your stay from a nearby shop. It's also a very easy 45 min walk or a simple bus ride.

I highly recommend staying here!!

I would echo everyone who has left a 5 star review of this hostel. My partner and I had an ideal experience here. Some may consider the distance from Kotor a drawback, but with the fact that it’s right on the water (with access) and a short and cheap bus ride from old town, I don’t see it as an issue. We hardly wanted to leave the dock in front because the views were so stunning. Sandra and her husband (whose helpful and hilarious) were so accommodating and friendly. We’ll be back!

Sandra was such a great host. Stranger Tides Hostel on Dubrota, just in the outskirts of Kotor, is a fantastic hostel. It is right on the water, which makes for the perfect opportunity to swim the minute you wake up in the morning. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms and bathrooms are clean. The shared kitchen was spacious, and has everything you need. Sandra had great recommendations from the minute we arrived, and was able to help us with everything we needed. The hostel is in a quiet area, which made sleep come easy. Stranger Tides Hostel is a place that I will stay at again when I find myself back in Kotor.

Stranger Tides is possibly the nicest and most comfortable hostel that I have ever stayed at! The rooms are clean, with AC and places to store your belongings safely, and the bunkbeds are constructed in a way that gives you privacy even in a 6 beds room. The kitchen is big and equipped with everything you would need. I quite enjoyed the garden also! Dont be scared by the location, there are the blue line buses from-and-to Kotor in every hour.

Perfect place to enjoy Kotor, and to meet new people. Highly recommended hostel. Sandra, the owner of the place, is a very kind person indeed who is happy to help. Her help and guidance was invaluable. Everything was just so smooth and peaceful. Definitely coming back here.

Brilliant hostel. Great value due to it being a 45 minute walk or €10 taxi into the town centre, but I personally enjoyed it being slightly more out there and more quiet. It is also 5 metres from the sea. The host is lovely (we arrived in a thunderstorm and she took our clothes and washed and dried them for us) and all the rooms are clean and comfy. We loved our experience here and would recommend this hostel to anyone and everyone who wants to stay in Kotor.

Simple, but delicious food. I visit this place every time I'm around Kotor bay.
Family business run by the one family with rich history.

A really nice place, authentic and delicious food. We come back on Saturday :-)

Update September 2019: after we have been there last year two times we are really disappointed. It seems that the owner has changed. The menu including the upper prices seems to be the same. The waiter was quite unprofessional. The tablecloths were full of stains. The food was ok but not great.

I can only imagine what Kotor and it’s restaurants must have been like 20 or 30 years ago. I’m sure it’s very different now, with several up-scale venues competing for the cruise ship and other tourist $ - offering a more mainstream & stylized dining experience. I also imagine that Pantagana, with it’s traditional Konoba/Taverna vibe, hasn’t changed all that much in that time.
The inside is very basic and unlike others, the original dock space hasn’t been extended to maximize the tables - rather the half dozen waterfront tables are positioned to fit the limited configuration. The owner/chef (Budo Popovic) would seem to be driven by non-financial goals which is rare - anywhere.
The service from the sole waiter (the rather irreverent Branco) is incredibly knowledgeable and efficient - albeit rather gruff at first. This place is all about fresh fish and if you are comfortable with it - allow Branco to advise you on what to choose.
We (2) shared a green salad to start with and a good sized ~1kg sea bass which cost a pretty rich E65, but after being filleted - was a very large meal - enough for 3 really and came with grilled veggies. It was perhaps the most delicious fish meal we’ve ever eaten.
We had a bottle of local Chardonnay @E35, a bottle of water and crusty bread - the total came to E120 / $137.
It’s not realistic to expect a movie-version 1970’s era Adriatic/Mediterranean-style dining experience, but Pantagana feels a lot like it might once have.

Excellent food and amazing location, very small restaurant, service could be "warmer" and a little too "honest" at times but that's part of the experience.

Not sure about these other reviews saying bad/not fresh food and expensive, was the freshest seafood we had anywhere and price was slightly cheaper than anywhere else on the waterfront. 133euro for 4 people with wine. Steak is also surprisingly good and huge!

Wonderful view but food was a let down. At 92 euros was expensive and quality lacking.

Looking over a bay and ordering seafood the expectation is high. Has the shrimp been caught out at sea recently, the fish the 'catch of the day!". The menu was even restricted given rise to even greater expectation but very disappointing in freshness, taste and texture. Not fresh clearly.

The service is good and as I said view wonderful.
