Reviews
I was shown to my room and asked if I needed a hair dryer or any other items to make my stay more comfortable. They made sure I knew how the heating worked and that I could turn it up/down as desired. The windows were able to be opened to get some fresh air and the heater worked great. I had a fantastic supply of hot water and the shower was good.
There were plenty of towels and the room was spotlessly clean. The room and bathroom felt incredibly homey and nostalgic to me and it was clear that the hotel has been lovingly cared for over a very long period of time by people who have a lot of pride in their work. Indeed I spotted a lot of cleaning supplies as I went in and out and it was clear that cleanliness was a top priority. I've got borderline OCD and it's rare that I feel comfortable being barefoot in hotels, but this one was no problem whatsoever.
It's worth mentioning that the steps can be dicey if you have a disability, but the rooms are worth the climb and this is also standard at many places in Amsterdam. It felt so nice to crash out in the room after a long day wandering the city. The location of the hotel is superb and there are many shops, bars, restaurants, cafes, tram, etc. at your doorstep. As with any centrally located place in a large city, it was noisy but this was easily mitigated by playing white noise while I slept. I don't understand people who complain about noise whilst staying in a central area of a major city. It's just part of city life and to be honest it adds to the immersive experience for me. It's nice to sit by the window and watch/listen.
As a woman traveling alone, I felt safe here. The front door of the hotel had a good locking system and there were almost always staff at the desk or nearby. I really appreciated saying "hi" and "bye" to everyone as I walked up and down throughout the day/night too. Made me feel really welcome.
I would far prefer to stay here again than some generic modern colorless place or corporate hotel. It's just a superior experience and when I go back to Amsterdam I will be sure to stay here again. I'm a frequent traveler and this place won my heart pretty quickly and stood out to me in the many hotels I've stayed in through my life.
After reading some reviews before our stay I was concerned the stairs would be especially steep - they were not a problem at all.
The room although basic had everything we needed .
Clean comfotable beds, shower , towels - tea making facilities and a safe .
(I would have preferred proper cups rather than paper ones.).
A hairdryer and bottled water were offered .
The reception staff were all very friendly and welcoming.
The hotel is very central for all amenities and transport links.
An enjoyable stay .
Thank you.
