Reviews
View from the roof is exceptional. I was not expecting much to be honest initially. Good spacious and warm reception free coffee and tea. Rooms are bit small but cozy and had ensuite. Hot water for shower. Pretty good breakfast before you check out.
What more you can ask for.
I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a serious incident that occurred during breakfast at MPS Holland. A Latin male employee verbally abused, insulted, and humiliated me in front of numerous guests.
As l attempted to leave the area in shock, the same employee continued by shouting a highly offensive curse at me from behind, including an insult involving my mother. This behavior is completely unacceptable, unprofessional, and constitutes verbal harassment.
I have never experienced such degrading and humiliating treatment in my life. I expect this matter to be taken seriously and investigated immediately, and I request that appropriate action be taken against the staff member involved.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Ideal for light load and exploring the city and only really for sleeping. Take note of mobile number on the boat and call if people are being noisy during the quiet hours.
There was no one to welcome us when we arrived (5pm). The boat itself is ok (the cabins are really really small) but we did not sleep all night because it was very noisy. Some of the passengers had decided to have a party on the boat. The party itself was "quiet" but the participants kept coming in and out of the boat slamming their room doors and talking loudly until 1am. The problem was certainly with the passengers, but why were there no employees on the boat to keep things calm? Moreover, at 1:30 am someone (probably a drunk passenger) started to knock (well hit) on the front door of the boat and shout because he wanted to enter (and didn't know or forgot the code probably). He did this for more than 20 minutes. Then at 4am the passengers who were partying came back from the party and obviously talked loudly in the corridor. The rooms being very badly insulated we hear everything.
To summarize, the main problem comes from badly educated passengers, but the staff should be there to take care of the calm on the boat... And I had the impression that the people who partied were friends with the people in charge of the reception. Even if the price is "low" for an accommodation in the center as we could not sleep all night it is not worth the cost.
If you're looking at MPS Holland for the novelty and "fun" of staying on a boat, then it's certainly the place to book. We were lucky enough to be given the room right at the front of the boat - we booked a double bed, and felt that we had more than enough room as we were only using it as a base from which to explore Amsterdam. The fact that there is a private toilet and shower was a massive plus (again - what is to be expected in a normal hotel should be seen as a bonus on a boat), and the beds were comfy. Despite staying during storm Ciara the room was warm, and although the boat did rock during the night I doubt this would be an issue if not staying during a storm!
Breakfast was very nice - I was a bit confused from previous reviews what it was, but it essentially was a small self service. Bacon, Eggs, Hams, Cheese, Toast, Pancakes, and Cereal are all provided along with a large hot plate on which to cook. You really can help yourself to however much you like - Victor was encouraging us to make sandwiches to take with us for the day!
Location is perfect - 10 mins from the station and maximum 15 mins from Central Amsterdam. Close enough to pop back for a rest in the afternoon before going out again for dinner.
Victor himself is a lovely and welcoming host - very amiable and hardworking.
We will definitely be coming back!
There was also some confusion regarding the boat location. We were informed that the boat would be moving to a new location but we could sail with them if we reached early. We caught the early train, an uber , made it to the harbour in time only to find out the boat already left ahead of schedule. We had to take another uber to the new location. And after all this running around, we still couldn't check in early and had to freshen up in a nearby cafe toilet.
