I had an absolutely unforgettable stay at The College Hotel Amsterdam, Autograph Collection. From the moment I arrived, it felt less like checking into a hotel and more like being welcomed into a beautifully curated, soulful space.

The building itself — a former college — gives the hotel so much character and charm. It truly feels like staying in a Dutch version of an Ivy League campus, but with boutique-hotel warmth and luxury layered on top. I was greeted with a glass of champagne at check-in, received a handwritten welcome note and a lovely gift in my room, and was even upgraded — which immediately set the tone for how thoughtful and generous the experience was.

The room was stunning, cozy, and incredibly comfortable. Little touches made it feel special: complimentary minibar restocked daily, turndown service, and a signature scent sprayed on the linens that made the bed feel like a cloud at the end of the day. I’ve stayed in many hotels, and I’ve never experienced that level of attention to atmosphere and comfort — it felt truly indulgent in the best way.

The staff were warm, kind, and genuinely welcoming. You could feel that they cared about creating a memorable stay, not just checking boxes. After long days exploring Amsterdam, coming back to this hotel felt like coming home to something calm, elegant, and restorative.

This hotel elevated my entire Amsterdam experience. I would absolutely stay here again without hesitation, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants something special, luxurious, and full of character.

“The best service tops perfection”
We’ve had a lovely stay at The College Hotel.
We really like what they have done to the rooms during the renovation. We like the light themes better than the previous dark ones. And the bed sleeps great: not too hard, not too soft, just super. And the double shower is great too.

Was our stay perfect?
No, it wasn’t: there was a small electricity problem that caused the lights in the lights in the bathroom to be not working in the morning. But the staff handled that in the best possible way. They owned it and aced it. With lovely, clear communication, supported by nice little cards, they fixed it, gave feedback and compensated us. And not just one person, they all did at all stations, weather Arif at reception, Irene with housekeeping, Robert the technical service guy, the breakfast staff, the proactive trainees, just everywhere and everyone. They all proved that besides doing the best job you can, striving for the best service always tops striving for perfection.

Note: the room scent you can select at check in and the nice quiet atmosphere in the building create a nice calm vibe throughout the whole hotel.

We highly recommend the College Hotel. It’s one of our favourite places to stay in Europe!

Review: The College Hotel, Amsterdam

Our stay at The College Hotel was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. The staff were incredibly polite, all fluent in English, and had a wonderful balance of professionalism and warmth—they never took themselves too seriously and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay.

The rooms were simply stunning. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, and the bathrooms were beautifully designed, adding a real touch of luxury to the experience. We also chose to include breakfast, which turned out to be an excellent decision. The food was truly 5-star quality, and we were allowed to order anything from the menu each morning—from a full English breakfast to yogurt bowls and continental options. Everything was delicious.

The location was perfect for our trip. We attended Metstrade at the RAI Exhibition Centre, and the hotel sat at an ideal midpoint between central Amsterdam and the exhibition venue—extremely convenient without compromising on atmosphere or charm.

Overall, the entire experience was amazing, and I would stay at The College Hotel again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

We had an amazing stay at this hotel! 🏨✨ The location is simply the best in Amsterdam—close to everything yet peaceful and charming. The staff were excellent—so friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. Everything was spotlessly clean, well taken care of, and made us feel right at home. Very satisfied, very good

The rooms were comfortable, the staff was terrific and the location was good.

I liked almost everything about this property. I had two issues. One, the glasses in the bathroom were glass. That is very unsafe because some of the time you are in the bathroom you are barefoot. If the glass fell, and it is not hard to see how that could happen, you would probably cut your foot. Two, the containers of shampoo, conditioner and bath gel in the shower were arranged in a way that it was difficult to get sufficient amounts out of the container, which was a nuisance.
