I've been here three times while travelling from-to Norway and Sweden.
Not far from the highway but almost downtown, only two blocks from the peatonal street with bars and restaurants.
Although not all the rooms are super modern, they are clean, large, with comfortable beds and with large windows.
There is also a nice restaurant in the hotel.
The staff is friendly and the owner is very kind and helpful

Hotel 1016 Olav Digre is located in the centrum of Sarpsborg, it has a very good location. The hotel is run by an immigrant family. The building is old and everything there is outdated or not functioning.
Overall impression is filthy, the stench of humidity in the room cannot be transmitted. There was a smell of smoke in the bathroom, which probably spread through the old ventilation system. The shower head needed to be replaced long time ago. There was no mirror on the bathroom wall, in the lamp only one bulb was burning. The TV did not work and when we called the reception about that, they started to accuse the cable TV company, which obviously was not the case. In the wall lamps above the beds were no bulbs at all and the clock showed always 1:36. There was no table nor a chair in the room where to sit on. From the room window was a view to the waste management site where was a total mess.
The breakfast was quite OK despite it was served very early and only during one hour. When we wanted to check out, there was no one at the reception and no one answered to the given phone number anymore either.
Such a disgrace in the middle of a beautiful old Norwegian town Sarpsborg.

We had a short stay at the hotel, family of 3. We arrived after reception hours, but the hotel had tried to contact us beforehand and sent a text with information needed to get access to our room. The room was quite dated, but spacious and clean, (except dust under the beds) and quiet. Bathroom was quite small, but clean.
We arrived a few minutes late for breakfast the next morning, despite given information both in the booking and in the text the night before, but were allowed to come in and have breakfast anyway, and were even cooked up some fresh waffles. The breakfast was above expected, with many choices.
The staff was very nice and professional, and so overbearing with us even though we arrived late, called after hours, and arrived late for breakfast. They were all smiles and accomodating!

I've never experience such good service in Norway before! It really felt like coming home.
Rana the hotel manager made sure that we had everything we wanted and gave us the best possible stay here in Sarpsborg. The breakfast was excellent with fresh food, egg/bacon/sausages, fresh fruit, yoghurt, warm bread, fresh Waffles, bakery cakes and so on.
We can only recommend this hotel, perfect location close to the train station and the city center.

The most friendly and helpful staff that made a large effort to make us feel at home. I traveled alone with my children on a long stay there and the hotel felt like a safe spot for all of us. Building is old and worn but with lots of light, air and atmosphere. Great breakfast and staff managed to find food that went ok with my food allergies.

Elevator does not work and looks like it hasn't for a while, which is bad when you are on the 4th floor. The room is more like a hostel than a hotel. I loved the town though. It was very cool.
