We had a double bed made up of two singles pushed together in an en suite package on the second floor of the Downtown Guest House, which is on a small side street in the centre of Santa Maria Maior area of Lisbon, which is a good location. The room it self was clean, basic and a tight squeeze for the two of us with a double wardrobe, two bedside tables, no other furniture. The bathroom had was fairly well equipped and clean. The stairs are fairly steep, painted a dismal colour, and would challenge someone with mobility problems and heavy suitcases (no lift). No air conditioning, but the supplied fan aided air circulation out of the double door that faced onto a shared external stairwell to the roof. Very helpful staff although there was a language problem.

The hotel was marked as having a 24-hour front desk, but the staff seemed to be absent; I couldn't contact them, and they eventually refused to answer my calls, so I couldn't check in. Please refer to the reviews on Google Maps.

Misleading comment to travelers! Downtown Hotel is open and had a great stay. It’s location is perfect in the centre . Clean rooms and friendly staff . Was hesitant to book this place after having read this comment however contacted Booking com and they assured the property is fully functional. Property has a glass door with ATM publicity. Next door hotel has no physical reception at ground level how could they have informed hotel is closed🤔.! I would definitely recommend this place and choose to stay again in future.

This place is closed, having spoken to the hotel next door it has been closed for months but is still taking bookings. Left us in Lisbon late at night trying to sort alternative accommodation! There is a shutter over the door and all window shutters are closed. After an email claiming they waited for us we went back two days later and all sitters still in place as per photos

Positive points: well located (hypercentre, 1 minute from Rossio Square), rather clean Negative points: €64 for a night in a room of this size, without private bathroom, without breakfast, it's a theft! The couple who run the hotel sleep on the floor in full view of everyone, not very appetising when you leave your room, whatever the price!

Itis a simple, but nice place, right in the center, close to a lot. The room is not that big, but always clean and very quiet. Good beds. No lift, but we are pensioners. A new toast, and a few more cups in the kitcchen are recommended. Very nice and helpful staff. Will book the same place next time. Eva and Kay from Swedwn

Decent food. Service could be improved... We ordered a 2nd bottle of wine, it took a long time for it to be brought to our table. By that time dinner was over and we cancelled the order, yet the server still insisted that we should pay for it despite the fact the bottle had not been opened yet. We did not pay for it in the end, but it was annoying. Bathroom needs an extreme makeover and some serious cleaning.

I just love this place, delicious, affordable food, lovely staff, nice ambient, what's there not to love? Plenty of choices too, great for vegans!

We ordered vegetarian food. The service was excellent. Very friendly staff. Good english and the food was delicious. Highly recommend.

One of the best meals we had in a long time. Great service, friendly staff and a good cook! I wish we had a restaurant like this back home.
If you like banana go for the banana prawn, you won't be disappointed.
