The Savoy Hotel in Limerick

This is not a 5 star hotel. Unfortunately, I had an extremely disappointing stay at the Savoy, and I would be reluctant to return. I've stayed before, eaten in the restaurant and enjoyed drinks bar many times before but the standards have dropped.

There were multiple failings during our stay that were unacceptable. In general, the rooms and ensuites are tired and in need of some fresh painting / refurbishment. Would encourage the owners/manager to stay a night and assess how they find the experience.

The window in our room was broken so we could not open it, despite the room being far too hot. The air conditioning was also not working. The room was so hot that some of our cosmetics actually melted.

The lift was out of service for a time upon morning of check-out, and we were on floor 5 so had to walk up 5 flights of stairs (one of our party is expecting a baby so this was less than ideal). There were elderly folks walking down the stairs with luggage and cases, puffing and panting in the heat and because of the long trip down.

The fire alarm went of multiple times during breakfast and not one member of staff came to us to tell us whether it was in error, a drill or an actual emergency.

We raised some of these issues on check-out and the receptionist gave a short apology but did not elaborate as to why these things happened, how they would be addressed or offer any further explanation.

To top it off, this morning I received a scam alert text message from my bank having bought an umbrella in the hotel's lobby for 2 euros, which, apparently I now have to pay another 18 euros for because it was not returned.

Our room was EUR 270 which in my view is far too much to pay for this level of service. The location of the hotel is very convenient for a night in the city, but I can't say I would be coming unfortunately.

We did not have heat in the room the a/c was stuck on so they brought up a portable heater
Unacceptable for a hotel that’s claiming to be 5 stars I would say more like 3 stars

Very bad smell in the room, smelled musty, was like the room hadnt been used in a long time or something.
Sounded like window was open with noise from the road outside but it was actually closed, very badly sealed window.
