Hotel Palace Portoroz Operated by Minor Hotels in Portoroz Airport

I recently stayed at the Palace Hotel Slovenia. While there were some highlights, my overall experience was disappointing. Room 244 felt more like a standard corporate accommodation than the refined boutique atmosphere the hotel promotes. It failed a basic cleanliness check with noticeable dust and lacked expected amenities like a kettle. The minibar was acceptable, but nothing memorable.

The biggest issue was the room temperature, which felt around 25°C. Despite setting the air conditioner to its lowest 19°C with maximum fan speed, the room stayed uncomfortably warm throughout the night, and I slept terribly. When I raised this with staff, I was told the thermostat only controls fan speed and the temperature is locked at 21°C. This was delivered in a dismissive tone, and although I received a reluctant apology, no effort was made to address the issue. They still charged me for an orange juice from the minibar, which felt tone-deaf given the circumstances.

The balcony was another letdown. The deck noticeably bowed underfoot, which didn’t inspire much confidence in its safety or upkeep.

On the positive side, breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection and a stunning dining area that matches the hotel’s promotional imagery. Valet parking was smooth and efficient. My car was ready within minutes, and I appreciated that they didn’t adjust the seat or mirrors. The toiletries were high quality and added a touch of luxury. However, there was no turn-down service, which felt like another missed detail.

Ultimately, the inability to control room temperature and the lack of attention to detail made the stay fall short of expectations for a hotel in this category. I wouldn’t return, and would rate it 3 stars overall. If you’re sensitive to room climate or expect responsive service, this may not be the right fit.
