We had a lovely stay and this great small hotel . It's at the south end of Hikkaduwa where the waves are often rough. We however enjoyed our morning walks along the beach into town. The rooms are lovely , worth booking full sea view . Staff are professional and helpful . Food in the restaurant or on the beach was good . Breakfast was plentiful . The area around the pool is a little tight but well kept. I would definitely recommend .

Had the most amazing stay at The Lucky Elephant. This is a truly wonderful hotel, all the staff could not do enough for us. Every one goes out of there way to make you feel special. Breakfast was a treat, sunbeds on the beach which was breathtaking and a wonderful evening meal on our last night. The rooms are immaculate, we had a sea view room with a balcony. Listening to The sound of the waves whilst sat on the balcony is pure bliss. This is a true gem of a hotel and most definitely worth coming too

We had a fantastic 4 night stay rooms were clean and comfortable and cleaned on a daily basis. Unfortunately the sea was too rough to swim in but the pool more than made up for it. Tyrone and his wonderful staff couldn’t do enough for us. Thank you for a wonderful stay

The Lucky Elephant in a nice hotel, friendly staff, and fairly quiet out of the hustle and bustle of central Hikkaduwa. Plenty of beds on the beach and nice pool. It's not a new hotel, but like many in the area have been here for many years

The location is not particularly convenient, near Hikkaduwa. However, the environment of the hotel is quite good. There is a beach where you can see the sea, and the breakfast is also very rich. I never finished it by myself.

A wonderful stay made even better by the excellent staff, front of house, housekeeping and especially the restaurant crew. Food was superb, great variety and true personal attention to detail from the head chef and maître d'. This hotel was one of those rare places where I would return without hesitation.

A fab hotel in Hikkaduwa - the staff are all so friendly! The rooms are great - very comfy beds and a big modern bathroom. The pool was lovely and warm and the hotel is directly on the beach, so you can walk up the beach if you’re going out for the night or jump in a tuk tuk. We stayed for 3 nights and loved Hikkaduwa : )

A small traditional hotel almost on the outskirts of Hikkaduwa. We had a late check in (in the middle of the night), so they left us sandwiches and fruit in the room so we could have a snack. It was very nice. Quiet, cozy and beautiful. You live almost on the beach. They have adult and children's pools (which are connected into one). The most beautiful sunsets of my entire trip to this country. There are few people on the beach, it's quiet and cozy. There are sunbeds and umbrellas from the hotel. There are very high waves in this place, it was impossible to swim in the ocean (we were there for 5 days), we went only up to our knees, we could get our feet wet, something like that. There was a red flag - a warning of danger. We went swimming on the Turtle beach by tuk-tuk, but there are a lot of people there, and in particular russians who behave rudely and ill-mannered. Very tasty cuisine at the hotel, but also more expensive than other places in this resort. There were also many good cafes right on the beach nearby. I celebrated my birthday here and ordered a candlelit gala dinner. The approximate price was 150 dollars for two, the child was free. The cuisine was very exquisite, we had a separate table by the ocean, served lobster, tuna tartare, delicious appetizers and wine. They laid out a greeting phrase for me with flower petals. Then they brought out a cake and fireworks 💙💛 It was a wonderful celebration and the staff worked very hard to make everything go flawlessly. Thank you for a fantastic holiday! There is no children's playroom. They gave us a cool baby crib to sleep in. Very child-friendly, they constantly asked if we needed to prepare any special food for the child, although we did not ask and the buffet had a very decent selection. For breakfast - different types of eggs, pastries, sliced fruits and vegetables, sausages, pancakes, and salads. There is a fairly large number of staff for such a small hotel. They follow every customer around, constantly asking if they need anything. Sometimes it's too much. But it’s country’s tradition. Thank you for incredible vacation! 🌴

We live in this hotel right now and we faced with with really terrible problem! There is constant noise and vibration! The vibrations comes from walls. We can’t sleep because of it and can’t even stay inside the room. We still doesn’t find out the source of this thing - looks like some pump works… And also staff doesn’t speak English at all, so they can’t help us at all.

Better for all who lives in the ocean view side, not hear the voices and laughing of drunked people on the pool at night. Dear administrarion, set please just 1 new pool rule - USE ONLY 8AM-8PM. The window in this hotel is not sound insulation, and I want to hear ONLY ocean noise. Thank u!

Good family hotel with friendly staff. We enjoyed our stay and magnificent ocean view. We had some issues with conditioner but that was fixed very quickly. The meals were tasty, portions were big. The beach is clean and not crowded at all, but beware of the waves.

Where do I even start with this review? The short story: Avoid this hotel unless you are left with the option of sleeping on the street.
We took this hotel at the last minute because we had a bad experience with our Air BnB. I will list down our bad experience in the form of points:
1. Rude and ill-mannered owner: There is a young fellow at the reception who DOES NOT know how to behave with customers. He claims to be the owner of the hotel. When we told the front desk that the AC remote in our room is not working, his first reponse was: "We can't do anything if you fiddle with the remote" Are you kidding me? One does not need a PhD button to press the up and down button on a remote and that is NOT HOW YOU SPEAK WITH CUSTOMERS. He was also being sarcastic and had lots of snide remarks on the side. We ended up having an argument with him and this is the worst possible hotel owner cum manager that I have met in my life.
2. Infrastructure: I would rate this below par compared to even basic lodges:
WiFi: I believe internet was faster when Tim Berners Lee invented the World Wide Web. It's pathetically slow and erratic and we had to repeatedly go down near the reception for any sort of connectivity.
No door handles: There are no door handles on the bathroom door which makes it borderline unsafe to close and open the doors
No Steam iron/press even on request: The entire hotel does not have a single steam iron. Wow!
No complimentary water: Not even 1 bottle - even basic lodges (forget hotels) have 2 bottles of complimentary water bottle everyday
3. We had 2 rooms and in one room, the only thing separating the shower area from the main bathroom was a thin curtain - no skirting, no tiles, nothing.
4. They forced us to pay the entire amount for the hotel upfront within a day. As someone who has stayed in all kinds of hotels across over 10 countries (from 5 stars to basic lodges) - this was surprising, especially given the bad service of the hotel. They were not ready for us to pay the full amount while checking out.
5. The rooms and the bathrooms had a really bad, damp smell coming from them.
6. The pillows were uncomfortable.
DO NOT STAY HERE.
