Hotreef Hotel in Dar es Salaam

Half of the letters in the name on the hotel-roof are missing. That says it all. The pictures with the clean, brown wall behind the pool area must be 10 years old.
When we arrived, there was no power, supposedly because of a local black-out. When after several hours we pointed out, that all the surrounding houses had power, they finally turned it on. But the weak air-condition took hours to start working.
The room had a pervading bad smell, reminiscent of moth-balls, the walls were blooming with nitrous. There was no toilet seat and no towel. There was lots of staff, but no one seemed in charge.
We had no water-pressure, because they "were filling the pool".
The floor in the hallway and in the room were dirty, the bed-sheet was filthy, marked with lip-stick and who knows what else. The electrical outlets were hanging by their wires, a swallow was nesting in the hall-way. The rooms glass-door opened to a 3 foot recess with no railing, too dangerous for re-creative use, but ideal for unwanted guests to enter the room.
After 5 hours, they finally turned on the water, but still no towel. Then they set up a music system by the pool that played so loud it made the windows rattle. It would play all night. Because electricity is so expensive, they had saved power all day, to use it for the party that night!
We finally left for another motel, loosing the money for 2 pre-paid nights.
In Africa you need a sense of humor. But this was beyond funny.

We stayed in this hotel in May 2021 and our experience was not pleasant. The pictures of the hotel rooms are very deceptive and create an impression of a quality hotel which is not the case. The workers were very good but the hotel's rooms were all moldy, bathrooms and kitchen were both extremely nasty. Our 3-day stay was a complete waste of our American dollars. The hotel is not even worth half a star. To all the travelers to Dar-es-salaam, do not book your stay at this hotel.
