Alexander's Hotel is an oasis, perfectly situated in Masaki. The owner has done a wonderful job in creating a welcoming and relaxing space that offers a pool, a tasteful breakfast/reading room, and wonderful outside green spaces to sit under and read. At the same time it is only a short stroll to the shops, restaurants and the buzz of The Slipway. Though you might never want to leave the grounds: the rooftop restaurant at Alexander's is one of the best restaurants in Dar, a beautifully designed space and features a world-class wine selection from the owner's excellent cellar. The staff are uniformly wonderful and welcoming. The rooms we had were large and well maintained and it was a pleasure to return after a day exploring the city. I can't recommend it highly enough. It's perfect, for the traveller that wants security and comfort but not the isolation-from-the-real-world of five start accomodation. We were there on a holiday, but I also imagine it would be an ideal place for a business traveller. Thank you to everyone at Alexander's Hotel. We had a terrific time!

We were recommended to stay at Alexander’s by a friend who spends a lot of time in Africa and I am very grateful we were because it was a fantastic experience from beginning to last. The rooms were huge, clean and had good a/c. The food was delicious, especially the dinners and we ate in both nights. The roof top dining room and bar is extremely comfortable with several locals eating, so you know it is good. Gordon is a very convivial host, he was very helpful when we had any queries and he leads an effective and extremely engaging team. Highly recommend. (We had great sun downers at the Slipway, which is a short walk and has many interesting shops)

Alexander’s is a hidden gem. Tucked away on a side street in Masaki, it offers an oasis of tranquility with rooms surrounding a gorgeous garden and tiled pool. Each room is individually curated with local art and toiletries from Zanzibar. The service is excellent on all levels. Even if you don’t stay at the hotel, the restaurant on the rooftop terrace is worth a visit. The food is amazing - by far the best seafood platter in Dar es Salaam!

A privately run hotel , probably falls in the boutique category. Nice private and despite construction quiet hotel with a lovely courtyard and pool. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed, but don’t expect shiny rooms. All the staff are really helpful and polite, as with the owners they are always available without being overbearing. Nothing was too much trouble. From reservation to checkout Gordon and others were there and everything was seamless. Felt like a home from home, great to use as a base to explore Dar and for business meetings too. Breakfast was pretty good both cooked and continental options. And real coffee too. The food in the restaurant is excellent and the balcony area is very relaxing. Hidden gem in Dar near the yacht club and slipway and will come again

A really fantastic, most special place. Gordon and his team‘s hospitality is outstanding, always friendly and the serice is so personal. Gordon even greeted us personally when we arrived from our international flight ar 6am and kindly offered us a later breakfast, which we truly appreciated. When I asked for a bandaid he brought a whole package for me from the supermarket. In addition to the people, the hotel is very pretty, stylish in the most special sense and the terrasse ist just … wow. While we usually go to different places, we had dinner there twice, it was too good. The area around is very cool and absolutely safe. Can‘t imagine there is a better hotel in Dar! What an oasis!

We stayed at Alexander's Hotel during December of 2023. Quite simply the stay was highly enjoyable, as the hotel is excellent. The hotel is owned and managed by Gordon Alexander, who is a great host who runs a very nice hotel and restaurant. I believe that you would be hard pressed to find a better place to stay in Dar es Salaam, as the hotel is clean, safe, and conveniently located in the Masaki neighbourhood. In terms of transportation to and from the airport (not to mention locations around the city), Gordon made arrangements for our transit in comfortable vehicles. In addition, the hotel's restaurant is excellent, and the hotel surely has one of the best wine cellars in Tanzania if not East Africa. I, formerly, travelled extensively for business purposes, internationally, and I would certainly place Alexander's Hotel at the top of my list of great boutique style hotels. Very highly recommended.

This hotel is a little oasis in the big city of Dar. Hidden away yet conveniently located it is a haven of peace inside the courtyard with magnificent trees and a pool. All the little touches make this a fantastic destination for work or pleasure such as, spacious rooms, great food, comfortable beds, free insect repellents, fluffy towels, branded bathroom amenities, breezy rooftop terrace, cotton hand towels, cooked breakfast, wine cellar and of course lovely staff who are all attentive and pay attention to detail. All this combined with a charming owner who is always on hand to deal with any questions or queries and goes out of his way to ensure all your needs are met make it a pleasure to stay here.

Wonderful hospitality, Alexander’s is a real gem! We arrived sticky and dusty after a few weeks on the road and were gracefully welcomed when we walked through the door. Our room was spacious and bright with a great shower and wonderful AC. Gordon is a terrific host and his staff do a great job making you feel safe and welcome. The restaurant was a lovely place to have a relaxed dinner. The food was superb and the atmosphere is sophisticated and laid back at the same time. We ended up having dinner here both nights of our stay, while there are many restaurants in the area, none seem to compare.
