La Cigale in Koh Tao Island

This has been our favourite place to stay in all of our travels in Thailand. We originally stayed here 3 nights and came back for another 5 nights. It very peaceful and amongst nature, you really feel like you’re alone in the jungle but with all the comforts of a spacious clean room. The bathroom was also amazing! The staff here are lovely and clean your room every day. The owner is very helpful with any requests and just a really nice guy. Couldn’t recommend this place enough it’s an absolute gem!!

Just finished our third stay at la cigale and I'm sure we will be back again. A wonderfully friendly and personalised service from Andre and his team, in a setting which feels beautifully rural and yet so conveniently located near to Sairee Beach and amenities. If you like being in nature, you will love staying at la cigale where each of the villas has been carefully crafted around the surrounding environment. Our rooms were serviced daily with complimentary water, help was just a WhatsApp message away for things such as renting a motorbike, etc. What more could you ask for? Thank you again for such a relaxing stay at la cigale, we will be back!

I will preface this with saying Koh Tao is absolutely an island where you need a motorbike. To get anywhere except the main beach, the roads are very long and windy and motorbikes are recommended.

With that being said, La Cigale is a great place to say if you decide to rent a motorbike. It’s right outside of town, nested in the jungle with a great view of the ocean in the mornings and at night. The bathrooms and rooms are spacious and one of a kind. We got our laundry done there and it was affordable and of high quality.

The service there is ok. The owner is very helpful and responsive over WhatsApp but the people working reception don’t speak much English and could not help us rent motorbikes. We went down the road instead. The snorkeling equipment is also in rough shape. Also it’s really not much of a cage to have breakfast at.

Redeemers: insane bathroom, fun drive on motorbikes, the view of ocean is sick, the room was huge and really clean and nice. Great porch and hammock too.

Would recommend if you want a fun hotel off the beaten path.
Laundry

André has made a little paradise on a quiet part on Ko Tao. We've stayed 4 nights in the Garden Villa. André has shown us 2 other villa's during checkout. With a passion for gardening you can clearly see how the villa's make excellent use of its natural surroundings. Huge rocks being a part of the buildings. A huge inspiration for us chasing our own dreams. Definitely will come back, when we visit Ko Tao again.

La Cigale is a wonderful place to stay for your time on Koh Tao. It is a jungle hideaway with beautiful views and lush greenery all around. It is far enough away from Sairee Beach that you feel like you're out of the hustle bustle, but close enough that a 3 minute motorbike ride will take you to restaurants, bars, stores, etc. You can rent a motorbike from La Cigale at a very good rate, which is really essential given the somewhat remote location. The rooms are extremely well done, the fixtures and linens and everything are very high quality. Hot shower with an on demand water heater. Very functional and quiet air conditioning. The outdoor bathroom is protected from the rain but full of lush vegetation and is very unique and cool. André is a kind and generous host. As noted in other reviews, and by André himself, the odd ant or bug will get into the room - hey you're in the jungle! As long as you don't leave open food out, it's not a big deal. There's a reason this place is so highly rated - I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Beautiful green villas built around nature, gardens and boulders a part of the structures. Located up the hill in the jungle, a couple of minutes by bike to the town, or a 5 minute secret walk through jungle to the beach. 5 gold stars. Excellent accomodation

Had a great time at La Cigale, the owner, Andre was so kind and attentive! The cottage was really special with an outdoor shower, I felt really connected to nature there. Would definitely recommend staying there, if you want to be bit outside of Sairee noise and crave more of a jungle feeling, but still want to be close enough to all the restaurants etc.

Absolute perfection. After a few days in Koh Phangan, my partner and I visited Koh Tao more from curiosity rather than necessity, only to become completely enamored with the island. We have no doubt or uncertainty that a huge part of this revelation is due to our experience staying with Andre and Nan in La Cigale.

The bungalows are thoughtfully and seamlessly married into the natural landscape, giving you the breathtaking juxtaposition of being simultaneously in a resort of the highest caliber, and a fertile rainforest setting. It is honestly hard to describe.

The quality of the infrastructure is unmatched by any other we experienced during our time in Thailand. Beautiful boulders border your private kitchen, native plants grow through the mossy walls of your rainforest bathroom. Find more relaxing nooks with comfy couches than your butt has room to sit on. Expect a fairytale quality sunset over the beach from your viewpoint looking over not the bustling Pier or flashy resorts, but the pristine Southern tip of the island.

Your hosts provide hospitality and concierge at the highest of quality. They are kind, flexible, resourceful, and honest. After a long day out exploring or adventuring, you will come home to fresh bedding and clean floors. If you need a taxi, motorbike rental, local advice, or anything else, you need only ask.

In the interest of writing an unbiased review, I will say that at certain hours of the day during certain seasons, the mosquitos can be quite bothersome. Your hosts provide coils as well as electric deterrents, and the doors to the bedroom had screens (we were never bothered at night, mostly just before sunset.)

If you are looking to treat yourself to an unforgettable experience in Koh Tao, I cannot recommend more highly the lovely people at La Cigale and their exquisite accomodations! I personally cannot wait to go back!!
