Extended Stay America Suites - Anchorage - Midtown in Anchorage

I was going to give it 3 stars but after the front desk admitted the place is a dump suggesting we “should have thought of that before booking!” they only deserve 1 star, IF THAT.

Locks on doors, both front of building and room didn’t work correctly making entering either a ridiculous challenge every time. There didn’t ever seem to be someone visible at the front desk and if you don’t already have a key you have to pound on the glass door to get someone’s attention. Or if your key doesn’t work — which ours rarely did.

The hallway was filthy. The room was full of broken down furniture. None of the outlets in the bedroom on both sides of the bed worked. The lights on the nightstand would have been nice — but there wasn’t anything they would do even though it was early when we reported it. No discount or other compensation was offered.

Save your money— there are lots of better places to stay. Not a good place for dogs either— no good place to walk them.

Employees were nice and the room was clean in the sense there wasn't dirt. The whole building has a stink to it and the room was worse. Before I was checked in I saw 2 different presumably homeless folks without shoes mumbling around the halls. The room stank of cigarettes and some other pretty bad smells. Stains all over the floor etc. Couldn't recommend this less unless you're in the riskiest of bind.

Front desk staff was courteous. The room smelled like smoke and nearly every surface of walls and furniture were damaged. Holes in the couch. Looked like someone had a fight with the fridge. I stayed here about 10 years ago and it’s like a different hotel. Walked past the laundry/vending area- looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a week. The lobby was dirty. We left to find other accommodations. This is unacceptable for $160/night. Does not compare to other hotels of similar pricing.

When we first arrived here after having a reservation for more than 3 weeks, our route was not ready for a 1500 check in. The room is what you would expect from an economy Hotel except this economy hotel cost over $100 a night. The walls are thin you can hear people above you in beside you. The bathroom seems to have been remodeled but with a fiberglass tub that creaks every time you step in it which not only wakes everyone in your room up but your neighbors as well. The staff is nice and attentive and they generally seem to want to do a good job, but I think they're Limited in their empowerment from the poor management of the hotel. They have a breakfast of Otis Spunkmeyer-like muffins and coffee, which is exactly as advertised and they are pet friendly, this is why we use them in first place. But as Anchorage Alaska hotels always go the cost-benefit is always lacking. You would also want to be careful as you leave the hotel homeless people try to sneak in on the side doors. Not a usual happening at a hotel if they had decent security. However, once notified they were reactive, a plus for their security team. If you have pets I would recommend Hotel because they are pet friendly, but so is the Hilton. If you want luxury this is not the place for you if you want to be next to the moose's tooth this is the place for you.

Cheap does not equal nasty! My family stayed here after a burst pipe in our home. There were BED BUGS, blood droplets the wall, stains on the carpet, and food and grease on the range hood. My 8 month old has reactive airway disease and kept having attacks while we were here. I checked the air filter in the heater and it looked like it had never been replaced. The room was hot and stuffy. Customer service was great and friendly, but the rooms were disgusting.

Attitude is everything. Coming off rude from front desk clerks, is a reflection of your management.
If you have unhappy employees, they should be removed from your workforce. Coming to a hotel as a customer who chooses your hotel, should be welcoming, and not a punishment.
