Reviews
We travel frequently and have stayed in hotels across a wide range of categories. We booked five nights at more than $450 per night and chose to leave after the first evening, sacrificing the remaining four nights and losing around €2,000 because the experience differed so significantly from what was represented.
We had noticed a few reviews mentioning that the hotel runs extremely hot and assumed it would be minor. It was not. The temperature throughout the hotel was uncomfortably high, and some areas felt closer to saunas than shared spaces. Even with radiators turned off and the balcony door open overnight in winter temperatures, our bedroom remained stifling. Keeping the door open meant frequent noise from the car park below and neighbouring hotel’s music.
Our higher-category “deluxe suite” room faced the rear of the hotel directly above that car park and another building. We could only see a partial mountain view by standing at the window and looking sideways. This was very different from the scenic alpine atmosphere with valley and slope views suggested in the hotel’s advertising.
The room felt dated rather than intentionally traditional. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and appeared more recently renovated, which we appreciated, but the in-room telephone did not work, the safe was locked on arrival, the mattress was lumpy, and the bed frame cracked loudly when we moved, enough to wake one another. There was also no tea or coffee making facilities available in the room. We stayed in several other similar price point hotels on this trip and all had coffee machines, tea, mini-bar etc.
Dinner was disappointing and felt very mass-produced compared to the presentation shown online. The restaurant is very brightly lit at night and was mostly filled with families when we were there. A telling detail about the hotel is the restaurant’s water policy. We were informed tap water would only be served if we ordered wine. As non-drinkers, this meant purchasing bottled water alongside soft drinks. At the hotel’s price point, the rigidity of this policy feels out of step with basic hospitality. It’s worth noting that the restaurant staff were warm, courteous, and accommodating throughout our meal. They apologized for the policy and explained it was hotel policy and not something they were allowed to change.
Most concerning was the reception staff’s lack of empathy, which stood in particularly stark contrast to the friendliness we experienced in the restaurant. At check-in we expressed our disappointment about the very poor room view and room temperature, after an extremely poor first night’s sleep, we returned to reception hopeful that a different room might have become available due to a cancellation. The staff member opened the conversation with, “my colleague told me about you, we already told you we have no other room,” and reiterated that they could do nothing. We were told the owner had declined any flexibility. The only option offered was to move to a lower room category - smaller size, but with a better view - two days later without any refund of the difference in cost. Given the lack of viable options, meal quality, and the tone of these interactions, we made the difficult decision to check out four days early with zero refund.
Though we were always polite to the staff despite the extremely disappointing experience and service, there was never any acknowledgment of our displeasure, and no courteous farewell.
This hotel may suit travelers looking for a large, functional ski base geared toward families with basic-standard of amenities. It did not resemble the cozy or luxurious alpine retreat we believed we were booking. For us, the mismatch in comfort, atmosphere, and service was significant enough to justify leaving and forfeiting four prepaid nights.
We share this review so future guests can make an informed decision about what kind of experience to expect.
We (me, husband, his parents) stayed for a week in early December on a half board basis and LOVED it. The breakfast buffet is generous and delicious, and the five course dinners are out of this world. All the staff were also a delight - kind, helpful and very tolerant of my school-girl German.
The spa is amazing, with a variety of saunas and steam rooms as well as a pool and hot tub. Robes and towels are provided.
The rooms are also very comfortable and well furnished, but a little on the warm side for us. Easily solved by opening the windows though, and we all slept well every night.
We had an amazing time, and would love to return!
