Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town by IHG in Lijiang

The location of this resort on the southern edge of the old town offers the perfect balance of convenience and heritage. One of the biggest practical wins is the driveway that led from the main road. Unlike many hotels deep within the city where you’re forced to drag suitcases over bone-jarring cobblestones until the wheels threaten to pop off, you can be dropped off right at the lobby here. Once settled, the two private back gates open directly into the ancient town, making exploration incredibly easy.

The resort’s architecture is stunning. It integrates seamlessly with the environment, mirroring the historical Chinese aesthetic of Lijiang. The dining experience was equally impressive. Everything we ate, from the breakfast spread to the offerings in the Club Lounge was delicious.

Note for Lounge Guests. There is a dedicated seating area for those with lounge privileges. It can get a bit warm in the mornings, but the staff were happy to open the doors to let in the crisp, fresh air. While this specific area doesn't offer a "spectacular" landmark view like some other InterContinentals, the atmosphere remains very pleasant.

Regarding hospitality, communication was a breeze. The staff primarily use WeChat and are incredibly responsive. We coordinated a very early takeaway breakfast through the app for our trip to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and they had everything ready and waiting for us.

We were kindly upgraded to a room with a courtyard, which felt spacious and luxurious. A lovely touch was the traditional Chinese tea set provided in-room. Brewing tea in the cool mountain weather was a serene experience. The outdoor space is shared with the adjacent unit, so privacy is a bit limited. We found the courtyard area could have been a bit cleaner, and our electric privacy curtains to shied us from the adjacent neighbor weren't functioning during our stay.

Despite those small technical hiccups, the experience was excellent. The sheer convenience of stepping out of a private gate and being immediately immersed in the magic of the old town makes this the premier place to stay in Lijiang.

The rooms at this property deserve the highest praise for their layout and comfort. They are exceptionally spacious, elegantly decorated with rich local textiles, intricate lattice wood accents, and artwork that evoke a deep sense of place, while sacrificing absolutely nothing in terms of contemporary high-end luxury. The bedding is incredibly plush, offering a perfect night of deep rest after a long day of walking and altitude adjustments. A wonderful and highly practical touch, particularly for those visiting during the cooler Yunnan months, is the underfloor heating system and the deep soaking tub, which transform the bathroom into a private spa environment. Having a private terrace or balcony looking out over the beautifully manicured resort lagoons or towards the majestic, misty peaks of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain adds an unforgettable layer of magic to the entire experience.
Service at this resort operates at a flawless international level while retaining a genuine local warmth. Because the property is expansive and laid out like a sprawling traditional village, the hotel provides a highly efficient golf cart or buggy transport system to move guests and heavy luggage smoothly between the lobby, the rooms, and the various dining venues. Even late at night, a quick call to reception brings a buggy to your doorstep within minutes, driven by courteous staff who are always happy to share local insights. The front desk and concierge team go above and beyond, handling complex logistics such as organizing reliable private drivers to the mountain, booking sought-after tickets for local cultural shows, or recommending authentic dining spots hidden away from the usual tourist traps.
The culinary offerings perfectly complement the visual splendor of the resort. Breakfast is a lavish, high-quality affair featuring an extensive spread that caters beautifully to both international preferences and curious food lovers. The live cooking stations serving authentic, piping-hot Yunnan rice noodles with custom toppings are an absolute highlight and provide the ideal energy boost before a busy day of sightseeing. In the evenings, walking through the illuminated resort grounds becomes a memorable activity in itself. The traditional pavilions, flowing canals, and ambient lighting create a profoundly serene atmosphere. The hotel design blends in with the ancient town and love both the exterior looks and interior of the room. Hotel is situated along 南门 and accessible to transport vs other lodgings located with in the ancient town. That said, the hotel has a backdoor providing access to the ancient town. It’s less than 10minutes walk from the famous 木府.

We had an unforgettable 1 week stay here. Great service by all at this well-located hotel just at the edge on ancient town. Special mention to Patrick Tian Yuan from the front desk who went out beyond his way to make our stay a memorable one. Daily fruit baskets/drinks were given to us to replace daily housekeeping at our request. We had some of our great meals at the Hotel Intercontinental next door. Patrick even went out of his way to bring one of our bags to the airport when we realised it was left behind when checking out. We got our bag in good time which enabled us to bring our bag of food and souvenirs back with us!

This hotel is the king of the dozens of resorts I've stayed at in China. Its unparalleled location, comprehensive and attentive service, and delicious food made my vacation in Lijiang truly unforgettable.

I've stayed at InterContinental before, but this time I wanted to try something different and experience Indigo. The service was excellent, and responses were very prompt. Our butler, David, communicated very smoothly, and they even provided a free extra bed for the child, which was a big plus. Any issues we had were resolved. The breakfast was a semi-buffet with à la carte options, and it was very refined.

This hotel is right next to the entrance of Lijiang Old Town, offering convenient transportation and a superb environment. The unique and impressive decor really stands out with its excellent design. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly, and the service manager, Byron, was exceptionally helpful and attentive. Simply because I mentioned the desk lamp was a bit dim, he had someone bring up a floor lamp. It was so heavy, and it pained me to see a young woman carrying it up the stairs. If you're coming to Lijiang Old Town, INDICO is definitely the place to stay!

The hotel service was excellent, and the living environment was very good. The exterior has a local architectural style, while the interior boasts luxurious and modern decor. David, who was at the reception, provided thoughtful service throughout my stay and even helped mail back a forgotten cup. It was a very pleasant experience.

The hotel's location is fantastic, right outside the South Gate of the Old Town. It shares facilities with the InterContinental, and guests can also enjoy breakfast there, which offers a wide variety of options. The environment is beautiful and peaceful, with distinct Naxi ethnic characteristics. The staff, William, Lydia, and Lison, were all warm, friendly, and provided excellent service, always ready to help. They even upgraded us to a suite. Overall, we were very satisfied and will definitely stay here again next time.

This hotel is right next to the InterContinental, and it's refined and quiet. For breakfast, you have two options: you can go to the InterContinental or dine at the hotel itself. I've stayed at the InterContinental before, but this time I tried the Indigo, and it was a fantastic experience. The main reason is the exceptional service. From the moment I called after booking to inquire about room types, they proactively offered an upgrade. Then, before check-in, David patiently showed us 4-5 rooms, helping us weigh the pros and cons until we found a bright room with a view of Wangu Tower. When we extended our stay the next day, they even reserved a centrally located room as an alternative for us. The service was incredibly thoughtful, and I was genuinely touched. Yunxueli Restaurant is not far from the hotel, and David even personally escorted us there. The next day, David also helped deliver our takeaway food to the room. The in-room dining options were plentiful and the food was good. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay. Compared to larger hotels, this place truly has a personal touch. A big thank you to David and the hardworking young staff at the front desk. I will definitely be back.
