Reviews
As a dietitian myself, I was particularly impressed with the healthy options they provided in their dining offerings. It’s clear they put thought into catering to a variety of dietary needs, which isn’t something you see at every resort. The food was not only delicious but also balanced and thoughtfully prepared, which I really appreciated.
If you’re looking for a serene getaway with great food and attention to detail, Viva Havens is the place to be. I’ll definitely be recommending it to others and hope to return soon!
First, the positives: the resort itself is absolutely gorgeous. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the beach is stunning, and it truly looks like a postcard. Making reservations for the à la carte restaurants was also very easy, which we appreciated since that can sometimes be stressful at all-inclusives. Leonardo, one of the bartenders, was amazing, he introduced us to a passionfruit mojito that we ended up ordering all week. He was friendly, attentive, and consistently great.
However, there were some major downsides. Two of us got food poisoning during our stay, and the resort did absolutely nothing to address it. There was no follow-up, no concern, and no effort to investigate, which was extremely disappointing and concerning.
The daytime entertainment was awful, by far the worst of any all-inclusive I’ve been to. The same three dances were taught repeatedly all week, and it felt very low-effort and repetitive. Some of the entertainment staff would also pressure us to participate in poolside activities even after we clearly said no, which made us uncomfortable.
The shows at night were actually very well done in terms of production and choreography, but even then, most of the staff looked like they weren’t enjoying themselves and were being forced to perform. The energy just felt off overall.
That being said, Esther from the entertainment team was a standout. She genuinely made an effort to get to know us, respected when we didn’t want to participate in activities, and actually seemed like she was enjoying herself. She made a noticeable difference in our experience.
Overall, while the property and beach are beautiful and some staff members were fantastic, the lack of response to serious health concerns and the poor, pushy daytime entertainment left us disappointed. I wouldn’t return based on this experience.
Positives:
-In the gated, guarded, massively large Playa Dorado resort area.
-All the basics of a full service all inclusive but on a small, lower budget scale. A plethora of food and drinks, private beach, chairs, shade, limited beach activities.
IMPECCABLY CLEAN! Rooms, grounds, restaurant, walks, pools, are all cleaned around the clock. We have stayed at larger and more expensive resorts that were not as clean.
-Price. This is a great value for the mid-budget vacationers.
-English widely spoken. Also French and of course, Spanish.
CONS
-Rooms and resort are not ocean front. There is a 100 yard walk from the resort to the beach. The walkway is paved, clean, private, and shaded. Easily accessible for a wheelchair or scooter. The beach is exclusive for Viva guests with clean bathrooms, bar, buffet, limited aqua sports, and Kids play area. Very nice, wide, clean, sandy beach. Plenty of chairs and shade. Not over crowded. Expect local folks offering jewelry, massages, cigars, and other wares. They are licensed and polite and take a gentle "no thank you" very well.
The kids program seemed limited (we did not have young children).
Resort entertainment was not at the "cruise ship" level, so don't expect large scale nightly performances. Pool side aerobics and dance lessons are offered. Nice atmosphere at the pool and good waiter service if needed. Ample seating and shade if desired.
For me the nicest surprise was the overall service. Every employee was nice, polite and each of them were doing an awesome job, whether it was the front desk, the cooks, waiters, cleaning crew or the gardening crew.
At this price point we were very satisfied
