The rooms are standard and clean, no issues with the AC or water. The food was 8/10. The best thing about this resort was the staff. Timéo and Esther in specific were so kind to us and really made the trip so much better. They treat you like friends rather than just visitors. There are also almost always activities going on around the pool and at the beach which are super fun, you’ll never be bored, and the shows at night are interactive and very impressive. There is also a disco tech open from 11pm-2am which makes for amazing night life at the resort. The drinks, juices and frozen cocktails are lacking in quality but there are a good amount of options. The beach is soooo beautiful and extends for many kilometres so you can take nice long walks. The only unfortunate thing about the beach is that there are no umbrellas for shade, only palm trees. All in all this is the best time I’ve ever had at an all inclusive and I would definitely come back. Huge shoutout to the entertainment staff for being so amazing.

I recently stayed at Viva Heavens in the Dominican Republic, and I have to say, it was an amazing experience! The resort was impeccably clean, and the atmosphere was so quiet and peaceful—it felt like a true escape from the hustle and bustle.

As a dietitian myself, I was particularly impressed with the healthy options they provided in their dining offerings. It’s clear they put thought into catering to a variety of dietary needs, which isn’t something you see at every resort. The food was not only delicious but also balanced and thoughtfully prepared, which I really appreciated.

If you’re looking for a serene getaway with great food and attention to detail, Viva Havens is the place to be. I’ll definitely be recommending it to others and hope to return soon!

I stayed at this resort for spring break with my roommates, and unfortunately our experience was very mixed.

First, the positives: the resort itself is absolutely gorgeous. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the beach is stunning, and it truly looks like a postcard. Making reservations for the à la carte restaurants was also very easy, which we appreciated since that can sometimes be stressful at all-inclusives. Leonardo, one of the bartenders, was amazing, he introduced us to a passionfruit mojito that we ended up ordering all week. He was friendly, attentive, and consistently great.

However, there were some major downsides. Two of us got food poisoning during our stay, and the resort did absolutely nothing to address it. There was no follow-up, no concern, and no effort to investigate, which was extremely disappointing and concerning.

The daytime entertainment was awful, by far the worst of any all-inclusive I’ve been to. The same three dances were taught repeatedly all week, and it felt very low-effort and repetitive. Some of the entertainment staff would also pressure us to participate in poolside activities even after we clearly said no, which made us uncomfortable.

The shows at night were actually very well done in terms of production and choreography, but even then, most of the staff looked like they weren’t enjoying themselves and were being forced to perform. The energy just felt off overall.

That being said, Esther from the entertainment team was a standout. She genuinely made an effort to get to know us, respected when we didn’t want to participate in activities, and actually seemed like she was enjoying herself. She made a noticeable difference in our experience.

Overall, while the property and beach are beautiful and some staff members were fantastic, the lack of response to serious health concerns and the poor, pushy daytime entertainment left us disappointed. I wouldn’t return based on this experience.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham in Puerta Plata is a great choice if you have HIGH EXPECTATIONS and a MEDIUM BUDGET. Resort outperforms on all areas for the price. There are more luxurious all-inclusive resorts, but for the price, Viva is OUTSTANDING.
Positives:
-In the gated, guarded, massively large Playa Dorado resort area.
-All the basics of a full service all inclusive but on a small, lower budget scale. A plethora of food and drinks, private beach, chairs, shade, limited beach activities.
IMPECCABLY CLEAN! Rooms, grounds, restaurant, walks, pools, are all cleaned around the clock. We have stayed at larger and more expensive resorts that were not as clean.
-Price. This is a great value for the mid-budget vacationers.
-English widely spoken. Also French and of course, Spanish.
CONS
-Rooms and resort are not ocean front. There is a 100 yard walk from the resort to the beach. The walkway is paved, clean, private, and shaded. Easily accessible for a wheelchair or scooter. The beach is exclusive for Viva guests with clean bathrooms, bar, buffet, limited aqua sports, and Kids play area. Very nice, wide, clean, sandy beach. Plenty of chairs and shade. Not over crowded. Expect local folks offering jewelry, massages, cigars, and other wares. They are licensed and polite and take a gentle "no thank you" very well.
The kids program seemed limited (we did not have young children).
Resort entertainment was not at the "cruise ship" level, so don't expect large scale nightly performances. Pool side aerobics and dance lessons are offered. Nice atmosphere at the pool and good waiter service if needed. Ample seating and shade if desired.

We got the higher end room, nice and confortable. Even if it's outdated, it's big and very clean. The food was excellent. With 4 restaurants (the Puebla being my favorite ! ) and a buffet with different themes every nights, we had plenty of choices. The beach is a 6 min walk from the pool and the complex. It's a nice walk on a path thru a jungle like forest with a big pond with turtles, fishes and many kind of birds. The Dominican restaurant is also on the way to the beach. There are plenty of lounge chairs at the beach and a bar/restaurant for diner. The restaurant is also the italian restaurant at night. Unfortunately we did not have nice weather during our stay and a lot of onsite activities/games weren't popular but the animation team did a good job of getting things started. There is a nightly show at the theatre.
For me the nicest surprise was the overall service. Every employee was nice, polite and each of them were doing an awesome job, whether it was the front desk, the cooks, waiters, cleaning crew or the gardening crew.
At this price point we were very satisfied

The rooms had mold almost everywhere, and it appeared they just painted over the doors to cover it up. The bathroom floor was constantly wet and slippery. The door sensor frequently shut off, causing our keycards to malfunction about half the time. We had to call staff approximately five times to gain entry, even after ensuring the key cards were kept away from magnetic devices. The buffet primarily catered to tourists, disappointing those seeking an authentic Dominican culinary experience; we only had real Dominican food one day, and even then, some dishes were absent. As a Dominican myself, I was very disappointed. This was a family trip to celebrate my birthday and wedding anniversary. While the event staff was definitely the highlight, keeping guests entertained with great shows, unfortunately, two family members became ill during our stay, making the trip less than desired. The property is not very family-friendly for small children. The pool was the only draw, but guests were allowed to smoke in and by the pool. Although the staff was great and genuinely concerned, overall, I will NOT be booking Viva Heavens in the future.

For horrible not authentic Dominican food. Rooms smell like mold. Front test people very unfriendly. Specially Henry. Would not go back!

Took an hour and a half to check in, the staff checked us in at 4:30 pm. Then the room we reserved and paid for which was a king size suite they did not have available.
20.11.2025 Andre
Room 4104 The bar fridge needed to be stocked but the cleanliness of the room was very well kept. The air conditioning was working very well.

Great Italian food with excellent service. This is one of the jewels you shouldn't miss. I'm so surprised and overwhelmed to find it unexpected here in Playa Dorada. Try it out on your own and let the magic coming.
