Hôtel Esplanade in Strasbourg

Do not stay here! If I could ZERO STARS I would! Reception never answers the phone so you always have to go downstairs. The room description with the number of beds in each room on booking.com was incorrect. The doors are hard to open and unlock with the old school key. Our bed broke at 11pm while I was sleeping and I was told by reception that the hotel was completely booked and there was nothing they could do since it was Sunday. When I woke up to take a shower there were no towels in the room. I went downstairs to reception and they told me housekeeping forgot because they are human. The tv didn't work and it took reception a while and 2 remotes later for it to work. This place has stairs and no ramp in the entrance so they are not handicap accessible. There is no city view since the windows don't open, but you dont need to view the city when you hear it in your room all night. Also the walls are paper thin so you will hear your neighbors. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place!

The staff is cold and unpleasant. I asked the elderly woman at the reception for a blanket and a heater because it was freezing, and she didn’t even bother to bring them to me. She’s about as friendly as a prison door extremely arrogant and rude. I’m shocked by the lack of French hospitality

DO NOT STAY.
A friend and I chose the Esplanade for its prime location and decent reviews. Unfortunately, only the former was accurate.
We arrived to the hotel and were guided by an indifferent receptionist to our room. The are are very small, and look nothing like the photos. Our room had a leaky shower, to the extent that one shower caused the water to flood over the entire floor of the room. The hotel sent a kind man to clean up the floor. When we requested to switch rooms, as a result of the leaky shower, we were told that there are no other ones available and that we would get a partial refund due to the inconvenience within a week. After a week we were sent an email explaining that there would be no refund and that the shower was not leaking. This is after the hotel themselves had sent someone to clean it, and had the manager on staff confirm the leaking problem. Booking.com is currently investigating the hotel for malpractice.

I booked three rooms at Hotel Esplanade via Booking.com for the night of Monday, 11/08/2025 to Tuesday, 12/08/2025 (Booking Number: 6237671562) for myself and my family.
Upon our arrival on 11/08/2025 at approximately 22:00, we encountered an unacceptable situation:
The rooms initially given to us (52, 53, 54) were not prepared at all – the beds were used, bed linen was dirty, towels were thrown on the bathroom floor, and there was visible dirt.
I reported this to the receptionist, who spoke neither English nor proper French, and he reassigned us to other rooms (35, 36, 37). However, the conditions in these rooms were equally unacceptable:
A hole in the bedroom wall, next to the bed, containing a small cavity in which there was a dead mouse.
Cobwebs and dirt on the walls.
Toilet paper rolls infested with live cockroaches.
Windows covered in thick dust.
rooms without any cooling solution.
All issues are documented with photos and videos.
Due to these appalling conditions, we immediately left the hotel and moved to another hotel
