Hôtel Bristol Reims in Reims

This was meant to be a relaxing weekend, but it turned into an uncomfortable and frustrating experience. I would strongly advise future guests to avoid courtyard-facing (ending with a 4 or 6 e.g., 104, 106, 204, 206, etc.) rooms until the hotel resolves these long-standing ventilation and air-quality issues.

We stayed at Le Bristol for two nights (three rooms total) and unfortunately experienced conditions that were far below what one would expect from a decent hotel. The rooms located around the internal courtyard (e.g., 104, 106, 204, 206, etc.) have no access to fresh air, as their windows open onto a confined shaft filled with strong kitchen exhaust smells. Opening the window made the rooms smell of grease and smoke, while keeping it closed left them stuffy and airless.

Natural light is also minimal, giving the rooms a claustrophobic and unhealthy feel, unacceptable for this price range. It was clear the staff were aware of the problem but offered no prior warning and handled our complaint defensively.

When we requested to move or receive a refund, we were told we could only get one if we left the hotel immediately, which wasn’t possible as all nearby hotels were fully booked. The offered compensation (a partial refund for one night of one room) was entirely inadequate given that all three rooms were unfit for normal occupancy.

Only plus points are good location for town centre and comfortable bed and helpful receptionist
Didn’t like that the toilet is right next to the bed . The room looks tired but that may be due to decor
We asked to change our first room allocated as there was a constant buzz from a compressor unit. However that was nothing compared to noise later. A bar across the road had loud music blaring until at least 3am . This was followed by the road sweepers and then the dustbin men! As a result we got no sleep
Cannot recommend at all unless you don’t mind not sleeping! But can recommend their restaurant which is good
