Hotel Amirauté in Cannes

Positives: if you are arriving to Cannes by train, this hotel is convenient because it is walking distance from the train station. Convenient location if you will be taking the train to other parts of the French Riviera etc.

Negatives: I stayed in this hotel before covid-19, and it was a family owned hotel. The actual owner would visit and was very amicable. They added charm to this hotel. At the time , maybe the hotel was a 3-star hotel, but because of the owner being personable and helpful, I loved this hotel and wanted to stay again 6 years later

Unfortunately, this hotel was recently sold and is owned by a group who only care about money. They no longer offer breakfast. I wanted to add an extra day to my stay, and the hotel would not help me and said they were full. Online, then I ended up being able to reserve another day through a 3rd party website. If it were the old owner, I feel that they would have allowed me to stay in the room I already was in. But because I booked online, they made me switch my room and I was not able to make the move easily. My second room had hair in the tub. We asked for extra pillows on the final day but the receptionist said he doesn’t know. My new room also doesn’t connect to the Internet for some reason.

The hotel also sent me an automated email to welcome me and asked if I need transportation from the airport or recommendations for tourist attractions. When I responded with followed up questions, I got another generic automated emails that was not relevant to my questions.

Won’t be coming here again . The charm is lost

Conveniently located near the train station, and the rooms are clean and tidy. Although the rooms are quite small, it provides all the necessities while traveling. They recently changed owners and they revamped the lobby and the cafe. Breakfast is now self-served, but they are missing some hard boiled eggs to make the meal complete! Some simple amenities like shower gel refill and daily bottled water are not available either.

Our stay at Hotel Amiraute was terrible overall. We had booked a two bed twin room and arrived mid afternoon. The middle aged gentleman at the front desk on arrival was very kind and directed us to our room. Once there, we noticed that it was a very small full size bed. I went downstairs and told him that we booked two twins and he said he would have someone fix. While at the desk, two other guests complained about their room not being cleaned. The man responded to everyone else that they only have one cleaning lady and are doing the best that they can. The poor guy seemed very overwhelmed.

About an hour later we were told our room was finally ready. It was the same original room that we went to so I guess their full bed just separates into two VERY SLIM twins (about 2/3rds the size of a normal twin bed). Unfortunately, upon our second arrival to the room, one bed had clean sheets and one clearly had the used sheets that were covered in hair and stained badly. So disgusting. I ventured back downstairs again and the man again explained that they were short staffed, apologized and handed me a set of fresh sheets to make my own bed. Okay, I will certainly do that but do was shocked that being short staffed was somehow viewed as a reason for people having to sleep on filthy used sheets. Nasty. I go ahead and make my own bed and am happy that I am only staying here two nights. I decide to take a shower and notice there is only one towel in the room for the two of us. I go back downstairs, there is a young man there now instead of the older gentleman, who scoffs and tells me that there is nothing he can do until the morning. No more towels. It is a bit much to ask two adults to share a shower towel. I am beginning to think that I am on candid camera at this point. This has to be a joke, right? Unfortunately, no.
In the morning, the older gentleman was there and I explained how unhappy I had been with the hotel and he said he agreed and the service had been horrible. He said he wants to provide better service but he can only do so much with no housekeeping or support. The young man who was incredibly rude overnight is the owners son I learned. I never heard from the owner or received any refund. To make matters worse, I asked for a VAT tax form and was basically given a receipt. I explained that I needed a blue envelope with a barcode on it and was told that I was wrong and that this is all I needed to be refunded the tax. Not so and I wasn't able to get the tax refund either. Total nightmare overall. Do not stay at this filthy hotel. To the nice man at the front desk doing his best, I do hope you are able to save up enough money to fulfill your dream to get back to the US someday.

Pretty Terrible All Around
This was a terrible hotel. I arrived at my check in exhausted from travel and was handed my room key. I was surprised when I got to the room to see a very small full size bed when I had booked two twins. I went downstairs and was told that the bed just needed to be separated and that they would fix it and dress the other bed. I returned to the room to find two of the skinniest twin beds (think small size full bed and then separate into two beds. Like 2/3rds of a normal twin size bed)

Okay, fair enough at least there are two beds. Upon a closer look, it was clear to me that they just put fresh sheets on the one single and kept the other sheets on the other single because it was covered in brown hair. Gross.

I went downstairs and explained to the man at the desk that there was filthy sheets on one of the beds and the sheets were not changed. He said he was sorry and explained that they are short on help? WHAT? You are short on help so you make people sleep on dirty sheets? Ugh. I asked for new sheets and I changed my sheets myself.

The next day we were left one towel. I went downstairs and asked for another towel and the man at the desk said that there was nothing he could do because it was too late and it was just him at the desk. I asked why our room would only have one towel for two beds. He said he can't get me another towel. So my friend and I had to share one towel after making our own beds. This place is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at.
