Reviews
There was a foreshadowing sign as I entered the courtyard for the first time. The name of the owner and the guest house is Mziuri...and immediately my mind made the leap to the word in English, "Misery".
I knew that a shared bath was normal in guest houses, but what made this worse was that it also was a wash room for laundry...which they did late at night. The ironing board was outside my room and finally at 12 midnight, I opened my door and told the woman to stop. She also had been yelling through the window to other people. My room only had one window and it was open for a bit of ventilation (no AC) to the hallway. She stood right outside my window, working and yelling.
My room on first glance was nice. First glance only. It had been a living space of some sort with an open doorway to another room. Both had been converted to bedrooms for guests. The opening has been boarded up, but offered no sound insulation from the noise generated by a family of 4 next door. It was also quite hot in my room and with no fan, I did not stop sweating until about 1 AM at night.
The room also has a closet and a chest of drawers. As I opened them to use them, I found them full of stuff and unusable.
One evening while passing through the courtyard garden, I was bitten by the dog belonging to the owner or her family. I later found that the dog had bitten other people!
My friends insisted I go to the hospital and I agreed to go. Next thing I know the EMT showed up and they loaded me up into the ambulance. But not before the owner, her staff, other guests and someone off the street crowded into my room...just watching!
Off I went and got the first of 3 rabies injections as a precaution. The dog was to be confined and monitored. When I returned to the place, he was still in the courtyard. A staff person pushed him outside the fence and closed the gate. During the rest of the stay, he wandered in and out of the courtyard, unrestricted unless I came out.
Oh, the owner did not pay, nor offer to pay for the cost of the hospital and ambulance.
The Wifi was almost non-existent. I rebooted it several times when the person ironing moved it around and disconnected it. Yep, it was just lying on the same table she used for ironing and folding clothes.
Only problem is that since the family lives there too, you don't have privacy outside your room and it can get a little noisy with all the kids running around, but it's not too bad and adds to a welcoming feeling.
