We’ve had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Liberty Offenburg twice now (seven years apart) and somehow, it was even better the second time. What makes this place truly special is its history. The hotel is set within a beautifully restored 19th-century prison, originally built in the 1840s and used until 2009, before being transformed into a luxury boutique hotel. The owners have done an incredible job preserving the character of the original building; thick stone walls, former cell layouts, and architectural details, while seamlessly blending in modern comfort and style. The result is something genuinely unique. The rooms are absolutely spectacular spacious, thoughtfully designed, and full of character. You can feel the history without sacrificing any comfort. It’s one of those rare places where the setting itself becomes part of the experience. The service is equally impressive. Every member of staff we’ve encountered has been warm, professional, and incredibly accommodating and importantly for international travellers, English is widely spoken, which makes everything effortless. And the food deserves a special mention. The breakfast in particular is outstanding, fresh, varied, and genuinely something to look forward to each morning. Without hesitation, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. If you’re anywhere near Offenburg (or even if you’re not) it’s absolutely worth going out of your way to experience it.

Beautiful and classy hotel! Hats off the the designers, builders, interior designers who transformed this prison into what it is today! Staff very friendly throughout our stay. Breakfast the next morning lovely, warm, and plentiful. Rooms spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable. Good bed for a good nights rest. Free on site parking. Left separate review on hotels restaurant. Bit more than other places, but can't get anything like this back in the USA for that price! Would definitely stay here again.

Staying in a former prison – what a brilliant concept, and beautifully brought to life. The hotel is just a short walk from the city center and ideally located for a day trip to Strasbourg. Rooms are modern and generously sized, the restaurant outstanding – the Tomahawk steak is a must-try. Service was quick and genuinely friendly, and parking is available right at the doorstep. We’d gladly return

This is a fun hotel that was a former prison. While you can see traces of the past, it's now a top quality hotel with a top restaurant. It's not the cheapest place to stay and eat, but it's a fun experience.

Fabulous design hotel with great bar, restaurant and terrace. The rooms are dark and dramatic with all modern amenities, the air conditioning could be fiercer but outside was 32 degrees so not too bad. Great shower pressure. The chef has amazing talent with lots of adventurous dishes. The restaurant staff seemed stressed. Breakfast was excellent too. Free access to the local outdoor pool was a nice touch.

It was a wonderful little stay at the Liberty Hotel! The place has been renovated with great taste. The decor is perfect. The evening meal was really very tasty and refined. The breakfast was truly complete and delicious. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. Access to the Offenburg aquatic area is appreciable... you just have to keep in mind that it's not just for adults like a traditional spa ;-) Another plus: the city center is very quickly accessible on foot.
