Spacious accommodation and loads to do — no chance of anyone saying “I’m bored” here (which with kids is basically a miracle). Highly recommend the swimming and the Aventura on the hill… both guaranteed to tire everyone out nicely. The views are stunning too — proper “stop and pretend you’re in a travel advert” vibes. Only slight hiccup for us was the language barrier. Being English, we were very much in the minority. Most staff spoke a bit of English, some not so much… and the surrounding areas were pretty similar. We got by with a mix of pointing, smiling, and hoping for the best. In all fairness, it’s made us realise we should probably learn more German before rocking up again like we own the place. Food-wise, it’s a bit samey — think pizza, burgers, and chicken on repeat. Not bad, just… familiar. The supermarket saved us though, loads of choice if you fancy cooking. Speaking of cooking — the oven nearly defeated us. I’m convinced it requires a degree in engineering to operate. Maybe a manual in the lodge wouldn’t go amiss! All in all, a great stay and we’d definitely come back… just with better German and possibly an oven tutorial under our belts.

I am a frequent Center Parcs visitor. But this was absolutely horrible. For the price of more then 2.5K this was absolutely miserable. We had a VIP Cottage. But I don't know why it was called VIP. This park is losing its shine very fast. Let's start positive: - The Park design is good. There are a lot of things for children. - The play grounds are great. The fact that the Adventure Land is really close by is a big bonus - The people working there are all very very friendly and willing to help. - The beds were good and supportive. - The gamehall and trampolines are awesome - The summer activities are great. - The green in the park is overall well maintained. There are a lot of weeds in the backgardens of the cottages but overall its good. But the negative: - The house was very dirty. We even found used tissues which is very gross but to top that we even found soiled underwear in the children bed. The bathrooms were wiped clean but you could tell they were still dirty due to all the grease stains. The floor was dusty, Threads of dust were hanging in the corners of the ceiling, the cutlery still had leftover food stuck to it. Our holiday started by going to the shop to buy soap and clean everything in that house. - The house is old and it shows. The furniture had it's best time. The most comfortable seats where the garden seats. The stairs are creaky and the paint is all worn off. Damages in the wall have been painted over leading to a nice spotted colored wall. - The food was lousy. We had kuchen that was still frozen on the inside, meat that was rubbery and dry, vegetables that were withered and soggy. - The price of the food is very high. - The bubble bathtub worked half. The lights didn't go on, the pressure couldn't be adjusted because the knob would fall off. - There are a lot of cars in the park. Not only the normal golfcars but actual cars. - The fresh breadrolls were delivered once IN the cottage while we were sleeping upstairs. That is a big no! I'm visiting center parcs for 30 years. This was the worst, most expensive visit I ever had. It feels as a waste of 2.5k. I will never return to this park and makes me think to stop going to Center Parcs.

Wellness not included, bowling costs €30,-. This not communicated behorehand, never been in a hotel which offers a sauna, but asks money for it. We booked this hotel because of those two elements, so this was a pitty.

The area surrounding Centre Parcs Hochsauerland is picturesque and quintessentially what you expect of Germany. Cute villages with chalet style housing, hills and forest. Very beautiful. The centre @ Centre Parcs itself was lovely and clean and had lots of activities, but sadly as an English family who did not speak German or Dutch, several were unavailable as they did not have the staff who could run the sessions in English. We tried to hire the push bikes for the 9 kids within our group, but they only had 6 for the whole site, which had over 700 lodges. We tried to hire the 6 along with three e-scooters, but they only had 2 of those working. The adventure area was great with loads of activities for the kids to do while the adults had a coffee. The communal areas in the lodges were very clean with all you could need, but sadly in areas you could not see (underneath beds) were filthy, with what I would imagine was several months’ worth of dirt. Off site, there are some great activities to try (luge, skiing (when snowy), zip lining and mountain biking) about 15 minutes drive away and these are reasonably priced. All in all, I would not recommend this Centre Parcs unless you speak German or Dutch, although there were several English families had made the long drive to the site.
