Reviews
So it was cold and unusable during our stay here.
The pillows are uncomfortable - one of them is lumpy and the other is narrow and hard.
Room was okay. Spacious. Beautiful location by the lake.
Parking is limited.
Vers nice stay. We where there only for one night. But everybody was very freindly and nice.
A bit mixed. Lovely setting, nice traditional hotel, good pool area, good staff, breakfast great, has some parking, good food in the evening too.
However room was a bit dated, dark (not enough lights), noisy people above, creaky bed, shower small. And they seemed under-staffed in the restaurant. They did however provide two very good meals for us
One afternoon we planned to try coffee and cake after seen posters with a picture of a nice cake. Strangely it was the only marketing of the restaurant we noticed. The reality was only two tired cakes that in no way resembled that the cake in the poster. We left and went to another restaurang with an excellent choice of cakes. Including the type on the poster in the hotel.
During our three visits to Malente we have tried many restaurants from the very good, but a bit pricey, Rodesand to the cheap but far from good, La Grotta. One night we booked seats in the hotel restaurant Louise after checking the menu on the website. At the entrance it was another menu and a third version was presented to us at the table. A bit confusing and very sloppy. As we in the last version found a plate of regional cheeses we skipped starters and went for main and cheese. The mains were okay and reasonable priced. When looking through the wine list I realised most of the wines were overpriced. We decided on a Conde de Valdemar Tempranillo, one of the cheapest at 40 €. The wine was served way too warm. Instead of 16-17 it was approximately 22-23 degrees and tasted a bit bland. I hoped some air should improve it but the lady servering the wine began to put back the screw-cap before I stoped her. Very strange behaviour for a waiter. I know the brand has wines at different price points and after checking I realised this was a 6-7€ wine sold for 40€. A very hefty markup! When the two plates regional cheese arrived we expected a presentation of where in the region they were produced. But no presentation was given. And the cheeses were standard supermarket varieties without any character, like the ones we get for breakfast. By no means worth 2 X 20 €. And the region, we realised, was more European Union, rather than Schleswig-Holstein. With the cheese plate was a fig marmelad served that tasted so strong of ginger that it would kill the taste of any cheese. It would go better with a hot Indian dish. The restaurant has a great location, design and size. It could be as popular as Bootshaus am Dieksee with the right concept and marketing along the walk path where most of the visitors to the village passes during the morning. We will surely come back to hotel but probably not to the Louise restaurant as it is managed now.
