Nefeli Hotel in Athens

Do not stay here. I have been to 25+ countries across 5 continents and I think this takes the place as the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at (including hostels and 1 star budget hotels). We started by checking in and the guy hassled us about not being able to find our reservation once he did locate it he explain the rules. One of the rules was leaving the key at the front desk when we left every time. In my past travels, this has been something a hotel offers to avoid losing the key but never a requirement. We got ready to go out and see Athens and we come down and he says I must have the key. I stated that I was okay but I appreciated the offer. We walked out the door and he comes running (literally) after us stating I have to give him the key. I said with all due respect I paid for the room for the night and I would feel more comfortable keeping it. I understood the risk. He stated that this wasn’t my house and he owned the place and I couldn’t make the rules. He lunged at me for the key. We were two women and he was much bigger than us so I gave him the key because I was worried for our safety. When we returned he tried to gaslight us into thinking we were out of line for wanting the key for our room!! Please choose any other hotel in Athens except this one especially if you are a woman. There are so many better options. This guy is unstable and should not be operating with tourists. I’ve never felt more unsafe in any situation-in any country.

On top of the creepy man, the hotel is dingy and there is no hot water. Would not recommend.
