Reviews
Their one saving grace was the cleaning staff in particular Flo who I must say was absolutely lovely. Oh and the location was perfect.
My wife and I were here for our wedding on the island. We were in total a party of 15 at these apartments under two bookings. One for 10 people and another for 5 (other booking made by my mother Ky Oula who has also left a review).
I was liaising with the owner Katerina who did not show her face the entire trip. All of her bidding was done by other staff (cleaning staff and others at the restaurant at the front).
The rooms on Expedia are all different prices and sizes (some are studios, some 1 bedroom apartments some are 2 bedroom). We paid a higher price for bigger rooms based on the number of people we wanted to put in each one.
For whatever reason Expedia sent the booking through as 5 rooms x 2 people but still acknowledged in our booking the room types we booked (Larger rooms because we didn't have 10 people but 15). This was made clear in my messages to the owner before arrival (see screenshot attached).
Upon arrival we weren't placed in the rooms we booked but whichever rooms convened the owner to accommodate 5 X 2 people. Even if we did have 10 total, this means we'd be paying more for a larger room but receiving a smaller room.
Because the owner Katerina was not there, nor was reception, she left the wait staff from the restaurant to place us in our rooms and when we pointed out they were the wrong room, she didn't understand (naturally, because she wasn't involved in the bookings, which is not a problem). When she called the owner to sort it out, the owner did not talk to us or come to the location, but rather just tell the wait staff to fix it.
All of us including my uncle who has recently had knee surgery were then moved with all of our luggage to different rooms (twice because they stuffed up the first one), then he was put into a room with air con that didn't work.
My mother (who has stage 4 cancer) had made the other booking and was harassed by the owner to pay taxes (which we paid) with no apology for the mix up in rooms. We acknowledged that the booking on Expedia showed 5 X 2 people but asked about getting the room we paid for (some were 300-400 euro more expensive).
Once we were placed in the room they were okay, but not great. Some rooms have mould in the shower and the door of my mother's room a hole in the bedroom door as if someone had punched it, plus the water pressure in our room meant we had to take our dishes to another room with better pressure to wash them. Overall the building is not well cared for.
After that we were harassed by the owner to pay the environmental tax (which we did) but she did not acknowledge the stuff up on our wedding week or offer any kind of compensation.
I think this was the most disappointing thing. The attitude of the owner. In Greek we have a word filotimo which was really not displayed here by her (which is a value I was brought up with and experience throughout Greece usually) and we were very disappointed.
Like I said, the saving grace was Flo and the other cleaning lady who paid for champagne out of her own pocket to apologise for the mix up, but throughout the whole process not only no apology from the owner Katerina, but she didn't even show her face on the property.
The rooms were clean enough apart from being a bit dilapidated and the location was perfect.
The one thing I will say is the women we dealt with at the front desk really tried to be helpful, but there was no saving this for us, we checked in and then checked out after one miserable night and ended up eating a huge cost for the rest of the booking (that they would not refund) as we scrambled to find another place nearby for the remaining nights.
Firstly - the photos are grossly misleading on Google/Booking, there is no pool or grassy area and the room we got was the opposite of spacious as you can see in the photos. The beds were terrible and hard, there were no blankets, only top sheets, so you found yourself alternating between hot and cold as the AC tried to keep a steady temperature.
Then there was no WiFi (as advertised) - like none. My husband had a work call and wasn’t able to complete it, even as he went down to the lobby and sat next to the router. We tried multiple networks - they all said "no network available". Google won't let me post those screenshots. Absolutely frustrating.
And then lastly - as others have mentioned, no water pressure, no warm water, just cold drizzly showers that we and probably a dozen other people in the hotel are all trying to use at the same time. Really not functional for a family of 4. My kids were miserable and wanted to go home. We raised it to management (in person) in the evening and were told it was because many folks were using it, so we tried again in the morning and it was the same, except then we were told it was a problem with the municipality on the island.
And listen, I’ve read the other reviews and I know the owner is going to respond and insult us and say how stupid we are and it’s our fault or the infrastructures fault, etc. but we literally booked another place 2 blocks down for the remainder of our trip that was HUGE, beautiful, and only a few quid more than Colosseo. And we had zero WiFi issues at this place and beautiful warm running water with high pressure at any time we wanted it.
I’d hate to see another family get stuck like we were, so just do your research, etc. before booking this place.
The included breakfast at Macao Beach Naxos (2 min walk) was also amazing and all the staff were excellent, specially Mrs. Georgia who also helped us with car rental and tips for Naxos.
Owner had also left a bottle of wine for us before our arrival, which was a great gesture of hospitality.
The included breakfast was also nice.
Overall great place to stay and enjoy your vacation :)
