Ilio Mare Hotel in Skala Prinou

We booked a Classic Double Room, but this category is misleading. Some rooms are renovated, others are old or on the ground floor, slightly sunken into the ground, with very poor conditions. Our first room was dark, with a view of a wall and insects in the bathroom – absolutely not 5-star quality. When I asked for a refund for the remaining nights so I could move elsewhere, they categorically refused. At first they offered us another room that was just as bad as the first one, and only after continued pressure did they give us a third room, which was better but still far below the standard advertised. One receptionist genuinely tried to help us, but unfortunately she had no authority to resolve the situation.

On top of that, I asked for an iron to quickly press a T-shirt, but was told they only provide a full ironing service, not a simple iron for the room. Mattresses are uncomfortable, food is repetitive, there are no coffee machines in the rooms, and even water at dinner is charged extra.

To be fair, the complex itself looks nice – the pool, palm trees, fish ponds and the overall atmosphere are pleasant. The beach is beautiful and the sunsets are stunning, but maintenance is lacking. With more care, it could be wonderful. Sadly, poor service, false advertising and bad value for money overshadow everything. The photos I’ve attached show the miserable first room we were given and the second one we got only after endless complaints.

We went with 2 childrens, a toddler and an infant. First thing : the room is an absolut disgrace, from furniture (old, rusty, dirty) to air conditioning which is full of bacterias, it smells bad, in bathrooms if you make shower than the water goes in the rooms. In the 3rd night, they organized a wedding in front of the hotel, just in front of our room, and they turn the music up loud until the midnight. I told at the reception, and he said that they planned a wedding and is nothing to do. The food was disgusting, the chicken wings at the dinner had feather in the first night, and not small, just like a chicken you sacrificed and put it in a pot. This hotel deserves 2 stars, i don’t understand why it has 5, is the worst accomodation by far we have been in Thassos.

We leave only grateful that we escaped without harm — that we didn’t lose our lives.

This hotel has nothing to do with the photos shown. How did they even get 5 stars? The room had old furniture, a rusty fridge, no kettle, and the air conditioner didn’t work. Even worse, the shower cabin suddenly came off the rail and shattered while we were inside — we barely escaped with our lives. We urgently called reception, but nobody came for immediate help, the hotel did not apologize, and nobody even asked how we were, not even the next day when we were still removing glass splinters from our skin. Only Mr. Latif came later to clean the room, and we thank him for that.
The food had very little variety, the restaurant was outdated with ridiculously covered unconfortable old chairs, the pool was degraded with too few sunbeds, and wasps made eating almost impossible.
The check-in experience was shocking: no welcome, no information, no introduction about the facilities — they just handed us the room card as if that was enough. For a so-called 5-star hotel, this was beyond unacceptable.
Overall this was a deeply disappointing and unsafe stay. We will never return and will never recommend this place.

The worst part was the bathroom: the shower cabin suddenly came off the rail and shattered into pieces while we were inside. We could have been badly injured. We called reception immediately, but nobody came to help, nobody checked on us, and the hotel never apologized. The next day we were still finding glass splinters, yet management didn’t even ask if we were okay. Only Mr. Latif came to clean, and for that we are thankful. Safety should be the number one priority in any hotel, but here it was completely ignored. An accident that could have cost us our health or worse was treated with total indifference. Calling this a 5-star hotel is like a joke. The food had very little variety, the restaurant looked outdated with old covered chairs, and the pool was degraded with too few sunbeds. Wasps made it almost impossible to eat. Overall this was an unsafe and deeply disappointing stay. We will never return and cannot recommend this place.

Very bad quality for the money
This “so called” 5 stars hotel does not deserve even 3 stars.

Nobody picks up your luggage on arrival. They dont escort you to your room.

The pool is over chlorined, makes your skin rash and feel sick from breathing. There is moist at the pool where the pool water ends.

There is no room service. You have to go fetch anything you need from the bar.

The cleaning staff wakes you up with sounds each morning at 8.

The place where you have open buffet is so hot, no air conditioning. All food that needs to be kept cool are hot.

We have informed the hotel that our daıghter has celiacs disease and we need special meal requirements, they ignored, did not help.

And the staff is unhappy, not helpful, serving with a bad and “bored” attitude.

First because is overrated in complicity between the hotel manager and some quests. The hotel manager sent message to all quests after check out to ask them for maximum rating in a change of discount at the next booking direct on the hotel web. This hotel is obsolete 3 stars hotel , not upgraded in the last 20 years with average quality of stay. Because of this bad process the location is super overrated and confuse the booking ( as you will find 5 stars and good reviews all over). I found that this is bad behaviour of the hotel management and miss respect of the quests that accept to overate this location, as encourage the guests to book 5 stars with fabulous stay, instead to see the reality of getting 3 stars obsolete hotel and fair accommodation.

While the Ilio Mare hotel boasts a beautiful beach and a nice bar in a well-situated location, my recent stay was far from enjoyable due to significant shortcomings.
The most glaring issue was the incompetent and rude staff, particularly the saloon manager. Their lack of professionalism and courtesy truly detracted from any potential positive aspects of the hotel. It felt as if customer service was an afterthought, leading to an unwelcoming atmosphere.
Although the rooms were superficially clean, they were a letdown. The furniture was old and broken, giving the impression of neglect. Furthermore, there was an unpleasant smell lingering in the room, and to make matters worse, I discovered black mold in the bathroom. This is completely unacceptable for any accommodation, let alone one in such a prime location.
Parking was another major frustration. There are not enough parking spots overall, and the two designated for electric vehicles were constantly occupied by normal cars, making it impossible to charge. This lack of enforcement and consideration for guests with specific needs added to the overall negative experience.
I would not recommend the Ilio Mare hotel despite its appealing location and beachfront. The issues with staff, room quality, and parking significantly outweigh any positives, making it a truly disappointing experience.
