The property is really beautiful and authentic with cave stay . It was an unforgettable experience for us on our anniversary day - they provided us with local wine, and special arrangement in the room with a fruit basket . We absolutely loved everything about the property like rooms with candles, sharing history about the hotel, the location is very central, restaurant in a cave setup was so stunning . We loved the cocktails, light bits there and not to forget a lavish breakfast spread was amazing !!

About as unique a lodging experience as I’ve ever had. The cave room was fantastic. The candlelight dinner prepared by Brunella is highly recommended.

I like it very much. The service is good and enthusiastic. However, this kind of characteristic hotel feels that it is enough to stay for one night to experience it.

The hotel is literally nestled in a cave, and the facilities are extremely basic and dated. It's a former slum, located on the westernmost side of Matara, facing away from the sun. So, it never gets any sunlight, and it's extremely damp and musty. I'd previously considered spending a night in the cave, but it's truly unhealthy. Our tour guide told us that the mortality rate for children living there before the age of two was 80%, which is why the government evicted us. You can imagine spending over 7,000 yuan to experience the living conditions of the poor is ridiculous. Many restaurants in Matara are located in caves, so there's no need to compromise your health by breathing in the musty air. There are many newer hotels on the mountain that are much cheaper. Even a five-star hotel is cheaper than this one. Ctrip is really taking advantage of us. I've found that these are places that even locals wouldn't stay, and they're promoting them!

This has been my most memorable hotel stay ever! I’ve stayed in a cave hotel on Santorini, Greece and this was by far much nicer and more authentic. It had all the modern conveniences but hidden away within the rustic, stone environment. The breakfast was also the best I’ve ever experienced. Everything was magical and beyond perfect! Loved every moment of my time there and wish it’d last longer! Highest recommendations!

The hotel service is very good, everyone is very enthusiastic, the environment is great, the scenery is also good, we paid extra to upgrade to the largest cave room, it was like living in nature, very warm with floor heating, the room was super quiet, the bath water was big and hot, the restaurant was beautiful, there was tea to drink, it was the best night's sleep we had.

Great place to experience the magic of Matera. Very nice breakfast in a large and atmospheric cave room. The cave rooms are cosy in early spring and definitely an experience. We opted in for the guided tour of Sassi which ended up being a highlight of our trip (many thanks to Alessio L).

This is a truly magical place that provides a very authentic experience of spending a night (or a few) in Matera.
We stayed over for one night during the off season (in February) in the room with a bathtub and it was very relaxing to use it after a full day of traveling and exploring the town. The ventilation was very good in our room (room 14) which is a very important feature when it comes to sleeping in the caves as we’ve been told.
A note to future travelers - we saw two rooms at the hotel during our stay and both didn’t have a door to separate the toilet so do double check that in advance with the hotel if it’s a concern ;)
The breakfast was exceptional filled with locally made products which were very fresh. The coffee was great too.
The service was great, the staff were polite and very attentive.
All in all, I’d highly recommend this hotel as we had an amazing experience. Thank you team Sextantio!
