Panorama Hotel Huberhof in Maranza

We stayed one night in this hotel in the summer 2023 so I'm writing this review based on that time. I do not know if something has changed to better after that - I certainly hope so.

First the good things: the location is amazing, the views from the hotel are simply stunning and the panorama pool gives you very nice Instagram pics. The service from the owners was friendly and they managed to speak English (other staff members didn't). The room was spacious, clean and as expected.

Then the bad things that have still left a mark on me. The biggest humiliation was the Finnish sauna (that now has been renamed thankfully to Event Sauna). We went down to the sauna floor through the stairs outside and arrived to the area where people were sunbathing. The only door open was the door to some "relaxation room", full of beds and naked people under duvets. We thought that was weird but stepped to the next room which was some "after sauna area" with drinks etc. There we noticed the Finnish sauna and decided to give it a try because it was empty. We had our bathing suits on because nowhere near the sauna door or the area it said you should go naked AND because abroad the nudity is always an issue so we thought to be polite that way. I am Finnish so I obviously know the sauna culture personally well and in Finland everyone goes to the sauna naked. However, I've experienced differently abroad and that's why we came to the conclusion to go with bathing suits.

The sauna was nice but after a while, a group of naked people came in with a so called 'sauna master' - a staff member who only spoke Italian or German. We were confused. Another hotel guest told us that the sauna is only to be used naked and with the sauna master and asked us to leave. Obviously we left but so annoyed and anxious - how can this be marketed as a Finnish sauna? When we exited the sauna area, we noticed that there was a small note on the door mentioning that this is "nude area". Of course we didn't know that because there wasn't any notes outside.

I left feedback about the sauna issue already then and there but still felt like it was worth to mention here since it left a huge mark on me. It was my first time in a spa hotel like this and also the last after this experience. Later in the hotel room, we read about the sauna from the info pamphlet but the information was only in German or Italian. So clearly the hotel welcomes only guests who speak those two languages.

Also, when we stayed, the hotel wasn't full but still we couldn't choose the table we wished at the restaurant. We were put to a dark corner, next to a couple with a toddler who threw all food, crayons, paper etc to the floor. We are fine with kids but since this was supposed to be the romantic getaway, this experience didn't really help with it. During the night, we realized that the table selection was done by the rooms, that couple with the kid were our neighbors and quite loud during the night.

Oh, and one more thing, the bath robes provided by the hotel were only for small or average-size people. I personally couldn't use the robe because I'm a bit chubbier. It's 2024 (then 2023), time to be a bit more body sensitive.

I personally wouldn't recommend the hotel and wouldn't consider going there again.
