Nakano, 99-1 Tateishiki Yoshida 🧭 Map
The morning buffet was delicious and I was very satisfied! I was also able to easily enjoy the orange juice and self-service coffee at the front desk, which was great. I was able to start my day feeling refreshed.
Hotel route in central Nakno this was an awesome place to stay we used this hotel as our base for the week, with several ski resorts to choose from, within 30 minutes or less drive away, the staff were friendly and helpful, willing to go the extra mile to ensure that your stay is a memorable one, rooms are standard size, with mod-cons split system air/heating USB ports for charging up electronics etc...
No issues ba ourr check-in, where they couldn't find our booking made month earlier via trip. com and kept us waiting in the foyer for 90 mins
The service staff is very kind and will provide toys to the children when they see them making noises! I thought it would be the worst during these days of travel, but it was unexpectedly clean and comfortable! The room can accommodate 2 large luggages!
Theneventually was 'offered' it definitely seemed somewhat begrudgingly a twin room, instead of 2 singles. I refused and demanded what I paid for, 2 single rooms, which they eventually relented 5 minutes later
Great no frill hotel with clean and functional room for a comfortable night. The location is good if you are driving and many restaurants and supermarkets are all within 10 drive away

As like everywhere else in Japan, the people are incredibly nice
It was a great experience. Will return one day
The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful (I speak no Japanese except for greetings and “thank you very much”) The meals were fantastic! The spread at breakfast and dinner was really impressive, filled with delicious fish, meats, egg, rice, pickled things, stews/soups and really fresh fruit
We were welcomed with kindness and hospitality. They brought our luggage to the room, provided us with yukatas and offered amazing traditional food. The private baths were the highlight and we will miss them greatly
Highly Recommended for a Traditional Japanese Stay
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. It was my first experience at a ryokan. Mainly chose this place because it is reasonably priced with private onsen and shower
The ryokan has both public and 3 private onsen. The private onsen goes by a simple manual reservation system by writing your name on the whiteboard outside the onsen if the onsen is not available

We visited in the quiet season but the hotel was lovely and the staff were very friendly & helpful. There's a restaurant at the hotel and it has it's own onsen, which is great. Rooms are Japanese-style & very comfortable
Reception helped us proactively for the very late check-in at 10:30pm. The room fixture and hotel facilities are old but within my expectation in that area and price range. Neat and tidy for the tatami setup
The onsen is big and the hot spring water is good. They just provide you the cold bread for reheat at breakfast. I gave up the breakfast and left
Everyone on staff made us feel welcome from the start. Aziz and both ladies at the front desk were extremely helpful and lovely people. We will always remember them abs their friendliness and how nice our stay was
The property is a little old and it shows in some areas but overall it was a great experience. The staff were all amazing and the bathhouse was excellent. Very short walk to the train and bus station.
A relatively traditional Japanese-style hotel. We had dinner at the izakaya opposite. There are set meals and a la carte options. The breakfast was a bit simple and only had bread, coffee and juice

Yamanouchi, Shinyudanaka Onsen 🧭 Map
Their outdoor onsen is beautiful during snow. But the place is old but well maintained. And for me, unlike other reviews, nobody offered me transport to the monkey park, they said no staff
The hosts were extremely polite and welcoming. They explained all the house rules in detail and kindly recommended great places to eat nearby
The place was spotless, warm, and very comfortable for an overnight stay with my husband and our two kids. We would definitely come back
This place was a very cute, homely, with a family owned ryokan vibe. We had a nice spacious room, the biggest we had in our whole trip to Japan, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains
We would have loved to stay longer, but we had to return to Tokyo right away to catch our flight
For some reason they couldn't find my reservation at first, but eventually they gave me a nice room. Location is very close to the station, walkable even during snow. Their breakfast and dinner is ok

All guests get to reserve 30 minutes of private use each evening, which was wonderful, but you can also go back during men's time, women's time, or mixed if you want to enjoy some more
Tawaraya is a very nice Ryokan and Onsen in the small town of Yudanaka. While not very distinctive from the outside, the interior is very quaint
The rooms are traditional Japanese tatami rooms with futons and low tables, and ours had a private western-style toilet attached (with all the Japanese gadgets that are the norm!)
There are both a male and female only indoor onsen where you can shower and bathe from 1600 - 0900 daily. In addition there is a beautiful outdoor onsen surrounded by rocks and a Japanese garden
The temperature of the onsen is perfect. Hot enough to be comfortable, but not too hot so you can't stay in! There are also slightly cooler sections of the pool or areas to sit partly out of the water if desired
, plus an additional hot-pot you use to cook an additional dish provided. Very yummy and filling (and I'm not usually a fan of Japanese breakfasts - but each one we had was different and satisfying)

While I was there, only one member of staff was manning the front desk as well undertaking other responsibilities around the hotel, but a phone was left at the front desk so you could call when you needed assistance
The accommodations were clean and comfortable and enjoyed the retro-feel. The free drinks and snacks in the lounge area were a nice touch and I loved the outdoor Onsen
Only one night stay but can’t complain and was able to store my bags there after check out while I went to the snow monkeys which was a great bonus.
Room was good size and bed was comfortable. Hotel is close to Yudanaka station and shops. Enjoyed my stay.

The room was very comfortable for a family with a small child! There's a private hot spring for families available by reservation, though the usage time is a bit short, it's still great overall! The food is high-quality, delicious, and varied
It's also possible to extend your stay for 1000 yen per hour, which is super convenient when traveling with a child. The hotel corridors aren't perfectly clean due to age, but the room itself is clean and pleasant
(+)
Nice private onsen pool/ room that you can use alone for 30 mins
Pingpong and karaoke room
Warm blanket and nice heater
(-)
The receptionist at night can be more friendly. Theres mold on my room ceiling
The room was very large and comfortable. What made the place great was the ping pong table, mini pool table. Once you understand the onsen process it is pretty easy. Note: restaurant is by reservation only
Dinner snow crab dinner is worth the price. Also cash only needed do the hotel tax due at arrival
Building is not the newest itself, but this is not a problem at all, as has traditional Japanese style rooms, cosy inside and outside baths. Has everything you need, to enjoy

Yamanouchi, Yudanaka Onsen 🧭 Map
Ichiro, the innkeeper, was very kind and even drove us to the snow money reserve and back free of charge. Nice to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan. Highly recommended.
Clean room, comfortable, simple breakfast
And good location. It is exactly as described.
We loved it there. This town is about a 15 minute walk to Shu
Facilities: Both the private and public baths are on the first floor, but the private bath is very small and can only accommodate two adults; the public bath area does not provide makeup removers and extra towels, so remember to bring your own if you want to take a bath
No dinner was provided, and the breakfast was also very simple (only milk, coffee, yogurt, toast and fruit, 700 yen/person), but the store sent us to the Snow Monkey Park and Yudanaka Station for free
Convenience: It is a 7-minute walk from Yudanaka Station, but we went there in February when it snowed. We were inexperienced for the first time and dragged our suitcases up the snowy road

The onsen was extremely hot and had an absolutely gorgeous view. The older couple that runs it were incredibly kind and hospitable to me, including a shuttle to the Monkeg Park and Yamanaka Station free of charge
It was brilliant!
It is the same with pictures on this site. They gave me yukata and towel and changed it every day. I had a tea and enjoyed it on my balcony. I tried a futon at first time in my life
I was later than their last check in and they accommodated me and even made a multi course traditional Japanese meal at 9pm, the food for breakfast and dinner was delicious
The personelle were super nice and helpful. They provided a free bus ride to the snow monkey park. The room was spacious and comfy. The hotel dinner and breakfast were amazing
The is also a sauna and an outdoor hotpool. There is also a cafe on the ground level with burgers, fries, tacos and drinks if you do not want Japanese food
Great blend of modern amenities with traditional ryoken hotel. Beautiful surroundings and atmosphere, specially during winter. Just wish there was more hooks to hang the towels. Overall great stay and highly recommend

Yamanouchi, Shibu Onsen 🧭 Map
All of them are awesome and there is no need to reserve, we tried all 6 of them + the 9 public baths in Shibu Onsen nearby. The meals are very good, great service and hospitality
The hotel is surrounded by several temples of varying sizes and different springs nestled in the mountains. The water temperatures of these springs vary, with the highest reaching 56°C
We stayed for 2 nights at a room without bath. When we arrived we were a bit concerned because it looks old, but after settling in we found this ryokan to be excellent
The ninth onsen is the largest, featuring a golden bath and a sauna. Next to it is a hot spring shrine and foot bath, right next to Kokuya
There are dedicated luggage handlers (three floors in total), creating a perfect setting for a period drama, reminiscent of Yubaba's old house in Spirited Away…
The hotel also offers traditional Japanese kaiseki dinners with over nine dishes
All guest rooms are designed in a traditional Japanese style, featuring Japanese-style bedding and a bathroom with a sink, TV, safe, refrigerator, towels, and yukata. Ten guest rooms have private outdoor baths

Opting in for the meals is a must!
Parking is available in their private garage, approximately a 3–5 minute walk from the ryokan across the road, which is convenient given the narrow streets of the area
The kaiseki dinner and authentic Japanese breakfast were the highlights. The Shinshu beef was excellent , even added an extra serving at my own expense & the sashimi was notably fresh and well-prepared
A private onsen is available for booking (one-hour slots) upon check-in and throughout your stay, which adds a level of flexibility and privacy that is not always guaranteed in traditional ryokan
Having stayed in numerous ryokan over the years, I can confidently say this is one of the most memorable. The attention to detail, hospitality, and overall atmosphere were exceptional
Guests are also provided a key granting complimentary access to all nine public bathhouses in Shibu Onsen, a privilege reserved exclusively for ryokan guests in the town. It significantly enhances the overall experience
Impeccable service, gracious hosts, beautifully maintained facility, comfortable bedding. This ryokan was everything and more we could have wished for! The private onsen amenity was an unexpected delight!

The hostess of this shop is very young and beautiful with a smile on her face! The temperament is very good👌👍! I visited this "hot spring street" and indeed the price of this "ape" youth hostel is the most affordable! Attached are the photos taken
It's less than 1,000 Taiwan dollars per person per night! This kind of hot spring hotel is really cheap! The hostess of this shop is very young and beautiful with a smile on her face! The temperament is very good👌👍! I visited this "hot spring street" and indeed the price of this "ape" youth hostel is the most affordable! Attached are the photos taken
We arrived a bit early and had hoped to drop our bags at reception before check-in time, but the doors were locked so we carried on down the road and explored the delighful area and found a lovely little beer taphouse, so the time passed quickly and enjoyably! For food, we walked down to a Ramen noodle house just down the hill (cash only) which was very popular and got full soon after we got there...
Hostel with traditional Japanese rooms, futons to lay out on the floor, and traditional under-table heating where you sit with your legs under the table and get lovely and warm
We chose this because it was close to the snow monkeys so we could walk there rather than get the bus (approx 20 mins walk to the entrance, then about 25 mins walk up the path), but I'm so glad we did because it was a wonderful place to stay
We booked a room with shared bathroom (because that was all we could see online) but when we checked in the receptionist offered us the chance to upgrade to one with our own toilet which we did (only about 1200 Yen more)

When a taxi booking to Shiga Kogen fell through due to heavy snow, the owner personally drove me there, which I deeply appreciated. He also printed out the bus schedule and made sure I knew exactly how to get back
Awesome location for visiting Jigokudani Park (snow monkeys in hot springs) but otherwise isolated. The room was very spacious, especially considering i was a solo traveler
That level of care really stood out. The ryokan is conveniently located near the Snow Monkey Park, making it easy to visit early in the morning before the crowds arrive
I'd been to other food forward ryokans elsewhere before and while they were fancier, the food at Jinpyokaku Honten was better or maybe just more suited to my tastes
Finally, while this is close to shibu onsen, it is not part of it and shibu onsen is about a 30 min walk away and you don't have access to the public baths there (to do the 9 bath crawl)
My husband and I stayed here 4 nights for our honeymoon, and we are so glad we did. The stay includes a private kaiseki dining experience for breakfast and dinner

The facilities are a bit dated, but considering I've stayed here multiple times across two generations, it maintains a certain standard. Plus, there's a fantastic indoor heated pool. I've stayed here twice already
Loved my stay in this japanese style hotel: traditional room with a great view to the mountains, very stylish public spaces, enormous dinner and breakfast. You can walk right from the hotel to the monkey park.
I liked the snow-covered garden and the view of the mountains from my balcony. Be aware that the ryokan is family friendly so you may be eating your nine-course kaiseki to the sounds of screaming toddlers
The shuttle service was super convenient, and the location right at the entrance of the Wild Monkey Park is unbeatable. The service was exceptional, and both breakfast and dinner were incredibly generous
The meals were delicious and thoughtfully prepared, and the onsen was relaxing and beautifully kept. It was a wonderful experience overall, and I would love to come back again

We bumped into her and she went above and beyond to help us out, at a great and fair price. The in house onsens are also quite nice, peaceful and quiet, the 3 times we went we were the only guests using it
My family and I had a fantastic stay here, my 3 year old daughter Aurora especially loved it. The hospitality of the host was honestly unreal, and a highlight of our whole 4 week trip to Japan
Absolutely exceptional!…it’s a hidden gem,it’s super 70’s classy chalet style and I really felt like I was the only person there..walking distance to the monkey park …full marks!.
It was just wonderful! Gorgeous place, gorgeous ryokan and such a good location. We were lucky, there were no people in the onsen and it was basically a private bath
Aki was a total rockstar and helped us out so much. We didn't have a place to stay for the night as everything booked out while we were hiking
Couldnt say enough good things about this location, and still super grateful to the amazing Aki

We ate breakfast / dinner at the hotel and told the staff that some of the group were vegetarians, a challenge in Japan generally, and they made sure there was a plate of cooked vegetables for each of them at every meal
There was not a lot of English spoked but the staff on the front desk were very friendly, very helpful and experts in the use of the translator app on the iPad
Another plus point is that they have rooms that can accommodate early check-in and late check-out. If there is one complaint, it is that the water in the large bath was too hot to enter
Found this place about a week before our trip when most places were booked out. It was very good value for money and the staff were very friendly
The top of the first chair lift from the Ryuoo Ski Park literally on it's doorstep. There are a coupe of hot onsens inside the building
They then pick you up from the Ryuoo Ski Park information centre in a snow mobile for free. The hotel is a little out of the way and appears to get a few school groups going through but would definitely go back
