Nakano, 99-1 Tateishiki Yoshida 🧭 Map
Clean, friendly staff. Lovely breakfast. No issues ba ourr check-in, where they couldn't find our booking made month earlier via trip.com and kept us waiting in the foyer for 90 mins. Theneventually was 'offered' it definitely seemed somewhat begrudgingly a twin room, instead of 2 singles. As paid for month ago.
I refused and demanded what I paid for, 2 single rooms, which they eventually relented...
The morning buffet was delicious and I was very satisfied! I was also able to easily enjoy the orange juice and self-service coffee at the front desk, which was great. I was able to start my day feeling refreshed.
The smoking room smelled terrible.
The welcome drink, apple juice, was delicious. The self-service coffee was also delicious, thanks to Doutor. Breakfast was also very good.
The food is delicious. I like that the bath is spacious.
Very comfortable and clean. The service staff is very kind and will provide toys to the children when they see them making noises! I thought it would be the worst during these days of travel, but it was unexpectedly clean and comfortable! The room can accommodate 2 large luggages!

The Yumoto Ryokan is great for a stop to relax a bit. One gets access to the 9 Onsen in the village and can take a dip in every one, or take a small hike to see the Japanese macaques that like to relax in an Onsen. The hotel has a private Onsen which is great if you wanna share the experience with a partner and also a public Onsen, which I liked the most from all the public Onsens in the village. It...
Worth every penny, beside the awesome amenities I was led to expect from description, the staff was also extremely welcoming and went the extra mile - the proprietess even drove us to the train station in the morning.
Really lovely location. Best part is the private onsen. Pick up the key for private onsen from reception if it’s there and use for up to 30 mins at a time. Go back again as much as you like. It’s a really really hot spring, but there’s a cold water tap and it’s really tranquil and pretty.
We had a fabulous stay. The staff were incredibly welcoming and incredibly accommodating of our young family. The private onsen was absolutely dreamy. We particularly enjoyed the traditional breakfast and thoughtful touches such as tea on arrival.
I genuinely cannot recommend this place more! If you’re thinking about staying in the town to try all the hot springs , or traveling to see the snow monkeys this by far is the best Ryokan in town! Without a shadow of a doubt. If you’re going to stay anywhere in town, choose Yumoto Ryokan! It’s so dam easy to get to aswell as it’s at the center of the town and it’s so homely and pretty.
The family...
The public bathhouse was broken, so we couldn't shower at all, which was terrible. We had to resort to soaking in the private hot spring instead. The private hot spring had a queue, and guests needed to make reservations for each room. It was very inconvenient; we didn't get in until 11 PM. I think I read in previous reviews that it had been broken for a long time, and it's strange that it hasn't been...

It was a great experience. Will return one day
Polite and helpful staff, there was an excess of wonderful food and a great view. Our room was clean and spacious but a little dated with an unusable stove that could be removed for luggage storage. The 3 baths were all well kept and felt quite private, 2 are outside. I Recommend driving here, there is a great waterfall not far but otherwise mostly farmland within walking distance. I would love to...
The rooms are all on the B1 floor. The corridor is dark and a bit depressing. Fortunately, each room has a window and a view of the courtyard. It may be because of the hillside. The hot spring bathroom is small and good.
Really scenic, beautiful surroundings. Excellent food.
Highly Recommended for a Traditional Japanese Stay
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. It was my first experience at a ryokan. Mainly chose this place because it is reasonably priced with private onsen and shower. The ryokan has both public and 3 private onsen. The private onsen goes by a simple manual reservation system by writing your name on the whiteboard outside the onsen if the onsen is not available...

Reception helped us proactively for the very late check-in at 10:30pm. The room fixture and hotel facilities are old but within my expectation in that area and price range. Neat and tidy for the tatami setup. The onsen is big and the hot spring water is good. They just provide you the cold bread for reheat at breakfast. I gave up the breakfast and left. It was good enough for my purpose of a pass...
It had an Onsen on sight which was nice. It’s a nice place and close to station. The beds are basically mattresses (futons) on the floor. This means very firm so for those who need more padding like my old body it can be a stiff night of sleep. Staff very friendly and for the money for 5 people it was great
Everyone on staff made us feel welcome from the start. Aziz and both ladies at the front desk were extremely helpful and lovely people. We will always remember them abs their friendliness and how nice our stay was. Will stay here again. The onsen is fabulous!
Overall good accommodations - loved the traditional Japanese room we stayed in. It was spacious, clean and quiet.
The property is a little old and it shows in some areas but overall it was a great experience. The staff were all amazing and the bathhouse was excellent. Very short walk to the train and bus station.
I really enjoyed my stay, the hotel lady was very nice and took time to explain everything.

The hosts were extremely polite and welcoming. They explained all the house rules in detail and kindly recommended great places to eat nearby. The place was spotless, warm, and very comfortable for an overnight stay with my husband and our two kids. We would definitely come back. We would have loved to stay longer, but we had to return to Tokyo right away to catch our flight.
The staff (owner?) was friendly and spoke to us in English. They had a place ready for our luggage before check in so we could go to the Snow Monkey Park first. We enjoyed our traditional stay. The hot spring is very hot! I only stayed in for two minutes.
Incredible outdoor onsen and cozy traditional room
Great calm community.
Wonderful hosts.
Property would need a little TLC.
Traditional Japanese inn with beautiful garden & 3 onsen. Appreciate snacks left in our room. Ryokan is 2 min walk from Yudanaka station with eateries within walking distance. Warm & friendly staff.
We really enjoyed the experience of staying at the ryokan.
Friendly hostess, neat house. We were treated to tea and buns. The location is very convenient, near the train station.
There is a very beautiful pond with koi fish in the yard.

Tawaraya is a very nice Ryokan and Onsen in the small town of Yudanaka. While not very distinctive from the outside, the interior is very quaint. The rooms are traditional Japanese tatami rooms with futons and low tables, and ours had a private western-style toilet attached (with all the Japanese gadgets that are the norm!). There is no private shower or bath attached to the room, however the main...
Google Maps navigation was inaccurate, constantly changing between front and back streets. It took me 20 minutes and several questions to find the right place. They should change the picture of the main gate and put the sign inside.
The heating would automatically turn off. I woke up cold the first night because I had to wait until the next morning to find someone to restart it. They explained it...
Some of the best customer service we've ever experienced. Ms. Abe was wonderful and her English was excellent. The outdoor onsen was perfect, truly beautiful. We really enjoyed this hotel. Service and amenities amazing
Stayed while visiting the snow monkeys. The location was ideal and the food was very good.
While I was there, only one member of staff was manning the front desk as well undertaking other responsibilities around the hotel, but a phone was left at the front desk so you could call when you needed assistance. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and enjoyed the retro-feel. The free drinks and snacks in the lounge area were a nice touch and I loved the outdoor Onsen.
Room was good size and bed was comfortable. Hotel is close to Yudanaka station and shops. Enjoyed my stay.
No towel at the basin. Poor design at the room entrance; you have to stretch your leg to go to the bathroom and basin.
Only one night stay but can’t complain and was able to store my bags there after check out while I went to the snow monkeys which was a great bonus.

The room was very large and comfortable. What made the place great was the ping pong table, mini pool table. Once you understand the onsen process it is pretty easy. Note: restaurant is by reservation only. Dinner snow crab dinner is worth the price. Open bar. Also cash only needed do the hotel tax due at arrival.
The reality exceeded my expectations; the hotel was even better than I imagined. The room was very comfortable for a family with a small child! There's a private hot spring for families available by reservation, though the usage time is a bit short, it's still great overall! The food is high-quality, delicious, and varied. It's also possible to extend your stay for 1000 yen per hour, which is super...
We really enjoyed the ryokan; we stayed for one night. The dinner buffet was particularly great, with crabs, fish, hot pot, beer, and sake. Breakfast was also quite good. The rooms were standard. There's an onsen, and we booked a 30-minute slot and went right away. I didn't get a chance to visit the public baths.
I was there for a ski trip, and the hotel's location was quite convenient for driving.
However, I stayed at this hotel for 8 nights, and I found it incredibly hard to understand why the breakfast and dinner were exactly the same every single night, with no variation or novelty whatsoever.
The hotel facilities are very old. The outdoor onsen for showering was extremely cold, to the point of being unbearable...
The facilities are a bit old, and the public bath's hygiene was just so-so. The location is good, but dinner was also mediocre.
Not a comfortable at all. Bed is hard. Big onsen pool serves only for ladies. For man, both of private and public pool are small. Dinner variety is looked much but no suprise in taste.

The hotel facilities are rather basic and lack overall maintenance. The rooms are okay, but the price-performance ratio is low. It's a 5-minute drive from Jigokudani Monkey Park, and there's a Lawson convenience store nearby.

Clean room, comfortable, simple breakfast
And good location. It is exactly as described.
Ichiro, the innkeeper, was very kind and even drove us to the snow money reserve and back free of charge. Nice to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan. Highly recommended.
Convenience: It is a 7-minute walk from Yudanaka Station, but we went there in February when it snowed. We were inexperienced for the first time and dragged our suitcases up the snowy road. We were almost angry. So it is recommended to bring a backpack if you come to Yudanaka for a day or two.

Rooms were clean, towels and japanese robes replaced each day. The onsens were clean, the outdoor one was usually empty, just for me. The gentleman at the reception was accommodating to us and gave us a few rides from the hotel to different locations (station, monkey park).

Great place to stay if you are looking for a very traditional japan Ryokan, even if the building is old. The owners were super polite and always servicial and open to help.
Excellent Ryokan located in the center of Shibu Onsen, right at the bus stop. The hotel is very typical and traditional, run by the Takimoto family. The private Onsen are excellent and very well maintained. Everything perfect, top welcome and services! We went during the winter with snow and we did not suffer from the cold inside the rooms. Very good and very rich dinner!

The hotel room was much bigger than expected. The service was excellent and the Japanese breakfast was most tasty. Being so close to the Snow Monkey Park also helped a lot - after spending the day in the cold, it was nice to return to the hotel and warm up.
Going to the monkey park, the hotel offers discounted tickets and free long boot rentals.
This is the best hotel for visiting Jigokudani Monkey Park; you can walk there easily. The facilities are a bit dated, but considering I've stayed here multiple times across two generations, it maintains a certain standard. Plus, there's a fantastic indoor heated pool. I've stayed here twice already.

Yamanouchi, Kanbayashi Hot Spring, Hirao 🧭 Map
The hotel’s only advertised advantage is its proximity to the Snow Monkey Park, but in reality, it's quite far from Yamanouchi town — a misleading description that left us disappointed. We arrived around 6 p.m. and were met not with a warm welcome, but with an abrupt reminder that check-out is at 10 a.m. Since the Snow Monkey Park opens at 9 a.m., it's unrealistic to expect guests to visit and return...

Absolutely exceptional!…it’s a hidden gem,it’s super 70’s classy chalet style and I really felt like I was the only person there..walking distance to the monkey park …full marks!.
It was just wonderful! Gorgeous place, gorgeous ryokan and such a good location. We were lucky, there were no people in the onsen and it was basically a private bath
My family and I had a fantastic stay here, my 3 year old daughter Aurora especially loved it. The hospitality of the host was honestly unreal, and a highlight of our whole 4 week trip to Japan. Aki was a total rockstar and helped us out so much. We didn't have a place to stay for the night as everything booked out while we were hiking. We bumped into her and she went above and beyond to help us...

Yamanouchi, Yomase 11700-18 🧭 Map
We are a family of 5 and had a large traditional room with a toilet. It was basic but plenty of space and perfect for 2 Adults and 3 boys aged 10-12. No bathroom however there was a sink in the room and we all experienced the Onsen bath which was perfect after a day of snowboarding! We could snowboard right into our hotel off the mountain!
The car cannot stop right in front of the hotel and
Very comfortable and convenient
comfortable place for skiing and close to all ski spots, very comfortable and friendly service, maybe the cleanliness and tidiness of the rooms should be improved

Found this place about a week before our trip when most places were booked out. It was very good value for money and the staff were very friendly. The top of the first chair lift from the Ryuoo Ski Park literally on it's doorstep. There are a coupe of hot onsens inside the building. There was not a lot of English spoked but the staff on the front desk were very friendly, very helpful and experts in...
I stayed here to snowboard at Ryuo Ski Park. I made the reservation in a hurry and didn't check it properly, but the hotel is located halfway up the slope, so you will be picked up and dropped off by a snowmobile from the ski resort parking lot. Since the hotel is located halfway up the slope, you can leave the hotel and start skiing immediately. It's the best.
The staff were all kind and the rental...
I'm a high school student and 4 of my friends went to stay for 1 night and 2 days. The bath, food, room, front desk service, etc. were all wonderful. We took a night bus from far away, but the front desk talked about returning on the second day. When I was there, they kindly asked me about my check-out time and the train schedule, and when I was talking about taking a taxi because there was no shuttle...
Good service, checks all customer temperature, have nice hot bath, have english information, nice staff, nice dining, nice view , alot of good stuff, but a little old. The pictures are prettier than it is in real. The area is a forest, there is nothing else to do but be in the hotel or snowboarding. We had to wait long time for our buss (6hours) and there was nothing to do. Just walking in the forest...
Food was really good. It was a buffet so quantity was no issue.
The hot water bath was amazing with sauna room. The rooms were not top notch per se, but had everything one could ask for.
Plus, the whole setup is huge and spacious unlike any other Japanese facility I have been to.
Some might say it's old, but I thought it's a little vintage.
With this price it was a bit disappointing. Textiles and bathroom was not 100% clean..
