Reception helped us proactively for the very late check-in at 10:30pm. The room fixture and hotel facilities are old but within my expectation in that area and price range. Neat and tidy for the tatami setup. The onsen is big and the hot spring water is good. They just provide you the cold bread for reheat at breakfast. I gave up the breakfast and left. It was good enough for my purpose of a pass...
It had an Onsen on sight which was nice. It’s a nice place and close to station. The beds are basically mattresses (futons) on the floor. This means very firm so for those who need more padding like my old body it can be a stiff night of sleep. Staff very friendly and for the money for 5 people it was great
Everyone on staff made us feel welcome from the start. Aziz and both ladies at the front desk were extremely helpful and lovely people. We will always remember them abs their friendliness and how nice our stay was. Will stay here again. The onsen is fabulous!
Overall good accommodations - loved the traditional Japanese room we stayed in. It was spacious, clean and quiet.
The property is a little old and it shows in some areas but overall it was a great experience. The staff were all amazing and the bathhouse was excellent. Very short walk to the train and bus station.
I really enjoyed my stay, the hotel lady was very nice and took time to explain everything.
The onsen was clean and warm.

We really enjoyed this hotel. Service and amenities amazing
Stayed while visiting the snow monkeys. The location was ideal and the food was very good.
While I was there, only one member of staff was manning the front desk as well undertaking other responsibilities around the hotel, but a phone was left at the front desk so you could call when you needed assistance. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and enjoyed the retro-feel. The free drinks and snacks in the lounge area were a nice touch and I loved the outdoor Onsen.
Room was good size and bed was comfortable. Hotel is close to Yudanaka station and shops. Enjoyed my stay.
No towel at the basin. Poor design at the room entrance; you have to stretch your leg to go to the bathroom and basin.
Only one night stay but can’t complain and was able to store my bags there after check out while I went to the snow monkeys which was a great bonus.

The hostel is in a convenient location near Yudanaka station which has a public onsen (plus a foot bath) and access to the shuttle buses to all the snow resorts in the area and Snow Monkey Park. Our private room was spacious and had a nice view over the mountains. The shared bathrooms were clean and easy to use. It has multiple individual showers in which has a small change area then the actual shower...
Nice traditional building in beautiful surroundings. Went there in wintertime, so it can be a bit cold, but still ok. Nice fireplace downstairs to keep you warm. Beds are equipped with curtains and are comfortable.
I had dinner there a while back in 2017 but thought the decore was modern and nice. Staff were friendly and food pretty good. From memory there was limited places open at night nearby but its a great little town :-)
Staying for 1 night in Zen hostel, good stay with a cheap price. Booked 1 room for ourselves (not the sharing room). Good traditional Japanese room, but we can still feel the cold inside the room. The way to the shower room feels cold without warm clothing (maybe a slipper could help). The lock is a little tricky (still left a little gap between the sliding door).
Oh they have lounge for people to...
Hosts are super nice! Rooms are spacious however as a westerner I've still not grown used to sleeping on mats... I'm also a side sleeper so I may be biased. Definitely a great place to stay!
We came for a couple of days in early March and this area was a definite highlight of our trip! Perhaps it was off season, but it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall the quaint and peaceful vibe of the area really sat well with my smalltown heart compared to the hustle and bustle of the metro areas of Tokyo.

Yoshi san and Seongmi san are the most helpful and friendly hosts you can wish for. Yoshi san is born and raised in the region and literally knows every corner and can tell you where to go (and where to avoid). Stayed in the en suite room and it is superb, with a very comfortable mattress and spacious. Highly recommend and cannot wait to be back!
Het beste verblijf tijdens onze hele reis in japan!
The best location we stayed during our whole trip in japan!
Run by a lovely couple that also have their own shop. They make you feel like you're at home, and are welcome. They know the best places for you to visit during your stay and bring a energy like no other.
As I dont review much, me and my girlfriend would like to thank this place to show...
We loved it here! There is a really cute shop as you enter and then a very zen communal area and kitchen. The rooms have comfortable beds and everything is perfectly clean. You can tell the owners love and care for the hotel. It is also nice and warm and perfect location to get the bus and visit the snow monkeys.
I would recommend it to everyone as it's also a good price for the area. We paid a small...
Thank you so much Seongmi and Yoshi for having us and letting us feel so welcomed. This hotel is definitely my recommendation for Yudanaka. The two owners are two amazing person and created a very familiar atmosphere.
After staying in Tokyo it was real peaceful and perfect balance. You can walk from the train - and if you like, you can also walk to the monkey park (should be about an hour).
The hotel...
We loved staying at this gem of a hotel! It is conveniently a very short walk from the Yudanaka train station.Yoshi and Seong-mi were exceedingly gracious hosts. They were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The breakfasts were nourishing and tasty, and full of thoughtful touches. The space was beautiful, full of wood, tatami and tasteful lighting. The bed was the most comfortable we've had in...
Excellent place to stay, clean, quiet, located in Yudanaka near the train station. It’s also not far from the ski slopes, and Yoshi the host is also a ski instructor, as well as his friend John. The hosts Seongmi & Yoshi were very helpful to advise surrounding places to visit.

The hotel facilities are rather basic and lack overall maintenance. The rooms are okay, but the price-performance ratio is low. It's a 5-minute drive from Jigokudani Monkey Park, and there's a Lawson convenience store nearby.
We loved it there. This town is about a 15 minute walk to Shu
Clean room, comfortable, simple breakfast
And good location. It is exactly as described.
Ichiro, the innkeeper, was very kind and even drove us to the snow money reserve and back free of charge. Nice to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan. Highly recommended.
Convenience: It is a 7-minute walk from Yudanaka Station, but we went there in February when it snowed. We were inexperienced for the first time and dragged our suitcases up the snowy road. We were almost angry. So it is recommended to bring a backpack if you come to Yudanaka for a day or two.
Facilities: Both the private and public baths are on the first floor, but the private bath is very small and...
I highly recommend this hotel! The old man was very enthusiastic. He asked us about our full itinerary for the next day, arranged a round-trip pick-up for us in the morning at the Wild Monkey Park, and recommended the next stop, Obuse, to us, making our entire trip very smooth and comfortable.
The hotel is also well decorated. It is bright and spacious outside, warm and artistic inside. There are many...

the hosts were so lovely, they helped us with everything we needed including finding the right bus, answering questions we had about the town and restaurants, and they even drove us to the station. extremely friendly and accommodating. the facility had an “old school charm” about it that some would call outdated. to us, it felt like staying at someone’s home which was comforting. for the price, it...

This is a typical Ryokan.
The welcome was great. We had a wonderful time. The room was very good. The dinner was excellent. The breakfast was also excellent. We were able to book the private onsen and appreciate it.
The host was so kind. He drove us to the Snow Monkey Park without asking.
We recommand the Senshinkan Matsuya.
I was shortlisting between 3 ryokan and this was definitely the right choice, lovely ryokan is nestled in the heart of the nine public baths of Shibu Onsen. Having stayed in numerous ryokan over the years, I can confidently say this is one of the most memorable. The attention to detail, hospitality, and overall atmosphere were exceptional. Nothing felt excessive; everything felt deliberate. The rooms...
Wonderful experience, very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Would highly recommend!
There was a great opportunity! Ryokan is perfect. Owners of ryokan is kind and always ready to help. Onsen experience also great. This place to keep calm, relax and enjoy the silence.
Impeccable service, gracious hosts, beautifully maintained facility, comfortable bedding. This ryokan was everything and more we could have wished for! The private onsen amenity was an unexpected delight!
This was my favourite stay in Japan. The building is a beautiful old style Japanese building. The bedroom and sleeping arrangements were very comfortable. The owners went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay, including explaining the process of the public onsens, shuttles to the monkey park and to the train station at check out. The use of the private onsen in the evening and morning was...

Great location close to all the small public baths. A bit far from the main station but still walkable or reachable by bus. The room is clean and cozy with very old Ryokan vibes. The hotel itself has a private bath and public bath with shower. Not very clean but ok. I guess depends on what time you use it. The breakfast is nice and simple, really enjoyed it. You can walk to the monkey park from here
The hotel had a Showa-era feel to it, but there was a kotatsu and a kerosene stove in the room, so it didn't feel that cold, but my family said it was cold. It may vary from person to person.
There were nine outdoor baths around the hotel, and as a hot spring lover, I really enjoyed them. They were supposed to be quite hot, but it was fine for me. It was cold in February, but it was nice to be able...
I was able to stay cheaply in the hot spring town. This was enough for a night without meals, and I was able to visit 9 hot springs in the town. The building and facilities are a little old, but it has a Showa-era feel to it.
The food was good and the hot spring culture in the town was great, but the hotel was too cold in winter. Very traditional hotel
Room was cold after the oil heater ran out in the middle of the night. The oil heater was not enough for the whole night during the winter time and the hot water in the sink was not working.
The room is clean and tidy, and the Japanese breakfast is delicious

The hotel’s only advertised advantage is its proximity to the Snow Monkey Park, but in reality, it's quite far from Yamanouchi town — a misleading description that left us disappointed. We arrived around 6 p.m. and were met not with a warm welcome, but with an abrupt reminder that check-out is at 10 a.m. Since the Snow Monkey Park opens at 9 a.m., it's unrealistic to expect guests to visit and return...

Absolutely exceptional!…it’s a hidden gem,it’s super 70’s classy chalet style and I really felt like I was the only person there..walking distance to the monkey park …full marks!.
It was just wonderful! Gorgeous place, gorgeous ryokan and such a good location. We were lucky, there were no people in the onsen and it was basically a private bath
My family and I had a fantastic stay here, my 3 year old daughter Aurora especially loved it. The hospitality of the host was honestly unreal, and a highlight of our whole 4 week trip to Japan. Aki was a total rockstar and helped us out so much. We didn't have a place to stay for the night as everything booked out while we were hiking. We bumped into her and she went above and beyond to help us...

Found this place about a week before our trip when most places were booked out. It was very good value for money and the staff were very friendly. The top of the first chair lift from the Ryuoo Ski Park literally on it's doorstep. There are a coupe of hot onsens inside the building. There was not a lot of English spoked but the staff on the front desk were very friendly, very helpful and experts in...
I stayed here to snowboard at Ryuo Ski Park. I made the reservation in a hurry and didn't check it properly, but the hotel is located halfway up the slope, so you will be picked up and dropped off by a snowmobile from the ski resort parking lot. Since the hotel is located halfway up the slope, you can leave the hotel and start skiing immediately. It's the best.
The staff were all kind and the rental...
I'm a high school student and 4 of my friends went to stay for 1 night and 2 days. The bath, food, room, front desk service, etc. were all wonderful. We took a night bus from far away, but the front desk talked about returning on the second day. When I was there, they kindly asked me about my check-out time and the train schedule, and when I was talking about taking a taxi because there was no shuttle...
Good service, checks all customer temperature, have nice hot bath, have english information, nice staff, nice dining, nice view , alot of good stuff, but a little old. The pictures are prettier than it is in real. The area is a forest, there is nothing else to do but be in the hotel or snowboarding. We had to wait long time for our buss (6hours) and there was nothing to do. Just walking in the forest...
Food was really good. It was a buffet so quantity was no issue.
The hot water bath was amazing with sauna room. The rooms were not top notch per se, but had everything one could ask for.
Plus, the whole setup is huge and spacious unlike any other Japanese facility I have been to.
Some might say it's old, but I thought it's a little vintage.
With this price it was a bit disappointing. Textiles and bathroom was not 100% clean..
