Nakano, 99-1 Tateishiki Yoshida 🧭 Map
The morning buffet was delicious and I was very satisfied! I was also able to easily enjoy the orange juice and self-service coffee at the front desk, which was great. I was able to start my day feeling refreshed.
Hotel route in central Nakno this was an awesome place to stay we used this hotel as our base for the week, with several ski resorts to choose from, within 30 minutes or less drive away, the staff were friendly and helpful, willing to go the extra mile to ensure that your stay is a memorable one, rooms are standard size, with mod-cons split system air/heating USB ports for charging up electronics etc...
No issues ba ourr check-in, where they couldn't find our booking made month earlier via trip. com and kept us waiting in the foyer for 90 mins
This location is also good for driving out to the various ski resort in Nagano
The welcome drink, apple juice, was delicious. The self-service coffee was also delicious, thanks to Doutor. Breakfast was also very good.
Great no frill hotel with clean and functional room for a comfortable night. The location is good if you are driving and many restaurants and supermarkets are all within 10 drive away

Honestly the cold milk really made my day!! 🥰
Air conditioning was very effective considering the size of the room and the breakfast was too much to finish and offered a taste of everything
Lastly you are on top of the onsens as soon as you step out and monkey park is a 25 minute walk north but talk with the Owner, she has a link to the Monkey security cameras so can tell you ahead of time if theres...
The Yumoto Ryokan is great for a stop to relax a bit. One gets access to the 9 Onsen in the village and can take a dip in every one, or take a small hike to see the Japanese macaques that like to relax in an Onsen
Best part is the private onsen. Pick up the key for private onsen from reception if it’s there and use for up to 30 mins at a time. Go back again as much as you like
Worth every penny, beside the awesome amenities I was led to expect from description, the staff was also extremely welcoming and went the extra mile - the proprietess even drove us to the train station in the morning.
We had a wonderful stay and truly enjoyed every moment. The hostess is incredibly welcoming and a genuinely lovely person — she even kindly drove us to the train station, which we deeply appreciated
Generally, the provided food was delicious and rooms where clean, spacious and quite the experience, with Tatami floors. One really felt like transported back in time and as a traveler in the past

As like everywhere else in Japan, the people are incredibly nice
It was a great experience. Will return one day
The rooms are all on the B1 floor. The corridor is dark and a bit depressing. Fortunately, each room has a window and a view of the courtyard. It may be because of the hillside. The hot spring bathroom is small and good.
Really scenic, beautiful surroundings. Excellent food.
We were welcomed with kindness and hospitality. They brought our luggage to the room, provided us with yukatas and offered amazing traditional food. The private baths were the highlight and we will miss them greatly
Highly Recommended for a Traditional Japanese Stay
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. It was my first experience at a ryokan. Mainly chose this place because it is reasonably priced with private onsen and shower

Their outdoor onsen is beautiful during snow. But the place is old but well maintained. And for me, unlike other reviews, nobody offered me transport to the monkey park, they said no staff
The hosts were extremely polite and welcoming. They explained all the house rules in detail and kindly recommended great places to eat nearby
The place was spotless, warm, and very comfortable for an overnight stay with my husband and our two kids. We would definitely come back
This place was a very cute, homely, with a family owned ryokan vibe. We had a nice spacious room, the biggest we had in our whole trip to Japan, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains
We would have loved to stay longer, but we had to return to Tokyo right away to catch our flight
The staff (owner?) was friendly and spoke to us in English. They had a place ready for our luggage before check in so we could go to the Snow Monkey Park first. We enjoyed our traditional stay

The breakfast was also very good, and the room was sizeable. This was our favourite stay in Japan
Tawaraya is a very nice Ryokan and Onsen in the small town of Yudanaka. While not very distinctive from the outside, the interior is very quaint
There are both a male and female only indoor onsen where you can shower and bathe from 1600 - 0900 daily. In addition there is a beautiful outdoor onsen surrounded by rocks and a Japanese garden
The temperature of the onsen is perfect. Hot enough to be comfortable, but not too hot so you can't stay in! There are also slightly cooler sections of the pool or areas to sit partly out of the water if desired
Go down the hill to the SE 1 block, turn right at the first traffic light at the bottom and then 2 blocks to find it on the right. There is the name in English on the door. The staff also speak English
, plus an additional hot-pot you use to cook an additional dish provided. Very yummy and filling (and I'm not usually a fan of Japanese breakfasts - but each one we had was different and satisfying)

The facilities are a bit old, and the public bath's hygiene was just so-so. The location is good, but dinner was also mediocre.
The room was very large and comfortable. What made the place great was the ping pong table, mini pool table. Once you understand the onsen process it is pretty easy. Note: restaurant is by reservation only
We really enjoyed the ryokan; we stayed for one night. The dinner buffet was particularly great, with crabs, fish, hot pot, beer, and sake. Breakfast was also quite good
It's also possible to extend your stay for 1000 yen per hour, which is super convenient when traveling with a child. The hotel corridors aren't perfectly clean due to age, but the room itself is clean and pleasant
There's an onsen, and we booked a 30-minute slot and went right away. I didn't get a chance to visit the public baths

The WiFi was good enough for a Microsoft teams call with zero lag whatsoever. I had a wonderful stay here and if I am back in the area I will stay again
Very good ryokan, friendly owner, near to Snow monkey park, good view
Great onsen and dinner
The room shows some age but it’s comfortable. The public onsen is very good with an indoor pool and an outdoor one for both men’s and women’s spas. We have the half board option with our room
The onsen was extremely hot and had an absolutely gorgeous view. The older couple that runs it were incredibly kind and hospitable to me, including a shuttle to the Monkeg Park and Yamanaka Station free of charge
They serve our dinners in a private room. The food was great and staff were friendly. Breakfast was served buffet style and has a good variety of food. They also offer rides to Snow Monkey park and the train station
I was later than their last check in and they accommodated me and even made a multi course traditional Japanese meal at 9pm, the food for breakfast and dinner was delicious

The baths in the ryokan are beautiful and so nice! Would recommend and would come back!
Exactly what you would expect. Tatami mat rooms with shoji doors. Dimly lit halls with wood floors, steep staircases and dusty old mementos on display. The halls and any room without a hearer were incredibly cold
Excellent Ryokan located in the center of Shibu Onsen, right at the bus stop. The hotel is very typical and traditional, run by the Takimoto family. The private Onsen are excellent and very well maintained
Has to keep the heater on in our room all night it was so cold and zero insulation—again exactly what is expected in a place like this
Everything perfect, top welcome and services! We went during the winter with snow and we did not suffer from the cold inside the rooms. Very good and very rich dinner!

All of them are awesome and there is no need to reserve, we tried all 6 of them + the 9 public baths in Shibu Onsen nearby. The meals are very good, great service and hospitality
We stayed here with my parents. So many variety of Onsens. Very good service. Staffs are very nice. Building itself is old, but overall we had very good experience. Thank you very much.
We stayed for 2 nights at a room without bath. When we arrived we were a bit concerned because it looks old, but after settling in we found this ryokan to be excellent
There are many baths to choose from here, so you have lots of options, but I highly recommend getting a room with a private bath so you can hop in and out as much as you like!
The food was excellent traditional Japanese style and they give you so many different dishes to choose from it can be a bit overwhelming, but everything is delicious

When a taxi booking to Shiga Kogen fell through due to heavy snow, the owner personally drove me there, which I deeply appreciated. He also printed out the bus schedule and made sure I knew exactly how to get back
Awesome location for visiting Jigokudani Park (snow monkeys in hot springs) but otherwise isolated. The room was very spacious, especially considering i was a solo traveler
Finally, while this is close to shibu onsen, it is not part of it and shibu onsen is about a 30 min walk away and you don't have access to the public baths there (to do the 9 bath crawl)
The private onsen attached to the room was unexpected and must appreciated. The food was the highlight of my 2 night stay
Also the building is pretty old with commensurate insulation so i was pretty cold all the time except for when i was cozy in my futon or in the onsen (and for about 30 mins after)
I'd been to other food forward ryokans elsewhere before and while they were fancier, the food at Jinpyokaku Honten was better or maybe just more suited to my tastes

The Japanese Royal family comes here! Spouse made excellent choice to book this gem of a place for our Snow Monkey visit (5min walk to START of 30min trail to monkey park)
The hotel room was much bigger than expected. The service was excellent and the Japanese breakfast was most tasty
Perfect place to stay!
Location is really good, it’s easy close to the snow monkey park and bus station. Hotel is beautiful and authentic. Breakfast and dinner were amazing
The private onsen wasn't as good as the public bath! Also, there was no shuttle to Yu no Kuni after 12 PM
The facilities are a bit dated, but considering I've stayed here multiple times across two generations, it maintains a certain standard. Plus, there's a fantastic indoor heated pool. I've stayed here twice already
Loved my stay in this japanese style hotel: traditional room with a great view to the mountains, very stylish public spaces, enormous dinner and breakfast. You can walk right from the hotel to the monkey park.

a pizza place not too far in Club Wyndham
- could be a bit cold at night (but you can just pile on duvets)

- if I think of Shiga Kogen as a strip, Hatsuke (where the hotel is) is pretty much at one end of it
Fantastic hospitality from the staff. They were very helpful in getting us together whenever we needed help. One can ski in and out of the hotel right onto the ski hill
It's not the most central location. For people who would like to cover all the mountains, you can ski from this side all the way to the other end and back
For those who would like to pick specific mountains to ski on, the mountain you like could be quite close or far away from you
That being said, it does not take that long to go to the farthest mountain (Okushiga Kogen) so it is generally okay
It is a short walk to the main bus depot, where the rentals are. The public bath (onsen) was wonderful post ski

The 2 staff who received us really took care of us. We asked to be moved to a room with a better view and they did. The breakfast was really good, it was the best breakfast that we had in Japan
You will have a high class food with a presentation and explanation of each dish by the servant. Best experience
5- Last but not the least I forgot my speaker in the hotel
We booked ski lessons and our instructor was very good! Our whole family learned right away. The ski lesson was the highlight of our trip

3- Onsens and the view are something out from this world
4- What I was really amazed is the kitchen and the chef that is cooking. If you stay in this hotel I highly recommend take the breakfast and dinners

Iiyama, 11492-233 Madarao Kogen 🧭 Map
This hotel run by married Japanese couples, provided good service, including transportation to and from the ski area.
Also, they provided additional service for breakfast and dinner that are both delicious!
The price was excellent and included three meals a day (including a packed bento box for the trail). Accommodation was simple, but clean and comfortable
They are close to the lifts and will drive you there. The nearest town Iiyama has a Shinkansen stop, and they will pick you up and drop you off. 30pm and got to Iiyama around 8pm, so we didn’t have to stay anywhere else
They know the trail well, so we’re able to suggest a sensible order to walk sections 1-6 to take into account our energy levels. They had already obtained the trail book and maps in advance which we bought from them
We stayed here 10 nights to hike the shin etsu trail. It was recommended by another operator. It’s a fantastic place to stay. Great food (and plenty of it), really reasonable price, comfortable beds, etc
It was a wonderful experience for us and the only way we’d practically be able to do the trail which you can’t do by public transport. It’d also be a great place to stay in winter for skiing

Stayed here for three days for skiing. The hotel facilities are old and the rooms are not big, but the ski resort is good.
Good location. Nice onsen. Overall it is still the most ideal hotel in Madarao
Although it is the official hotel of the ski resort, it does not located in a best "ski in ski out" place, you literally need to take a very slow chairlift to come back hotel after you finish the run in the main area at the end of the day
The hotel is right next to the Banwei Plateau Ski Resort, a ski in and out ski resort. There are many restaurants and bars near the hotel, which is very suitable for friends or families to come and play
This place is fantastic for skiing at Madarao Mountain!
It's right on top of the mountain, so you wake up to the beautiful view and ski down first thing in the morning.
The room view is also amazing!
There are also parking spaces outside the hotel for self-driving people, which is also very convenient for self-driving tours

Easy to get to Okushiga and at the same time close to all the food and bars! Highly recommend, we will be coming back! Nice little Onsen/bathhouse as well, tattoos, no problem!
The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom had also been renovated and was very comfortable. The food was a buffet, but it was obvious that the food was frozen and not very tasty.
Perfect Ryoken, right in the middle of arguably the two best slopes (other than Okushiga, my all time favorite)
Autumn leaves have begun, and in Ichinuma (lakeside), the autumn leaves are mirrored and the scenery is wonderful
Excellent value; worth considering for a comfy budget stay. located within skiing distance of the Yakebitai/Okushiga areas, ichinose and Tateyama areas (tree skiing). Good size for the tatami rooms
Also some shabu shabu places opposite the hotel as well as a yamazaki store and yakiniku too. There was a rental shop at hotel but really basic. The bath was also average only. The place has no body lotion so be aware!

It’s a great hotel! The breakfast was very good, you can tell the owner pays a lot of attention on its quality. The hotel staff is nice and friendly. Although the hotel is a bit old, but it’s really good
Best part of our stay was the food! Multiple dishes including hot pot for both breakfast and dinner which were always delicious and satisfying. We were always looking forward to our next meal
Quirky hotel, close to ski lifts
Not a great selection of hire gear but there is a good rental shop close to the main gondolas. Strangely there is a 7am wake up call for the entire building
Rooms were large for Japanese tatami style accommodation. We ate 3 meals in-house which were Kaiseki style and very good. The onsen was a good size, good temperature and good changing area

The room is big. The service is good. Dinner is ready when you come back from skiing.
You need to book breakfast and dinner! Otherwise there is nowhere to eat, the hotel's dinner is very good! I went skiing specifically, right in front of the Ichinose Snow Resort, the location is great! The hotel has history!
The good thing is that the dinner is very rich. The dishes are changed every day. The taste is satisfactory but the quantity is large
The location of the hotel is very good, ski in and ski out of the ski resort
What I am not satisfied with is the breakfast, which is too American. There is nothing to eat, and there is no food after 8:15. I stayed for several days and the bacon was gone every time

Good location, but small and old room. Overall still quite good. Recommended for ski in ski out
My ski pants broke on the trip and we went to so many different shops in shigakogen but only found 2 shops that sold a very limited selection of ski pants - Restaurant St Christophe (at Okushiga) and Snowcan Ichinose Diamond shop
service and environment is good, however too expensive, i would expect better facilities for this price
Ski gears quality are quite good in hotel rental shop. Room is small if u choose the cheapest type of room
Another thing was that we had the room at the end of the corridor which the furthest away from the lift- it was a long walk to the lift, around 100m. It’s better to request for a room near the lifts (lifts are not noisy)
Breakfast and dinner buffets were pretty decent - there was a wide variety of foods to choose from. The west building was conveniently located near two chairlifts and we could head to different ski areas easily

Good location 300m to ski chairs.
great food and great service from the staff. amazing room and view from the hotel. we group of 19 was the only customer on that 1 night stay, we were given full attention and best service
We like both the services and the cleanliness of the room. However, the hotel needs to upgrade their bathroom and sink. You can't get a good warm temperature in winter when there are 2 taps, one for cold and one for hot
Service oriented hotel with friendly staff and ski in ski out options to the highest mountain in Nagano (also has a ski/snowboard school with kind boss)
Breakfast and Dinner options were plentiful and varied spread which is a better option for room with meals options as there isn’t much open by 5pm in the vicinity
Nearest free shuttle stop is 2min walk from hotel (Hotaru Onsen)
Would highly recommend to friends to return for snow holidays (mostly Japanese and only a handful of tourists) but there’s a friendly English speaking staff

we had an amazing 5days family stay: the room was spacious for three, the food in both restaurants excellent. being straight in the slope, with a walk-through ski-room is very convenient
The downside is that the bathroom is brand new, but my room smelled a bit like horse manure. In summary, although it is deep in the mountains, it is comfortable and good to live in
We had a great stay at the Okushiga Phoenix Hotel. The Italian dinner was simply perfect, the onsen was wonderful and relaxing, and the staff were consistently friendly and professional.
It was in good business condition. I booked a top-floor room with an area of 42 square meters. It was sunny and had a mountain view. The room pictures had not been updated, but it had actually been renovated
amazing place to stay for winter, great skiing and snowboarding rental area and great slope, the hotel restaurants are super nice, on the expensive end but worth it! recommend the Japanese restaurant! the hosts are nice and the rooms are very comfortable

So we spent 5 days in this hotel & loved it. We enjoyed an empty hotel, zero queues, excellent snow. 90 minutes by bullet train from Tokyo and then 90 minutes by bus. The hotel is truly ski in & sort of ski out
Spend the w/e’s in Tokyo and on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning take a bullet train to one of the 100 to 200 ski resorts by bullet train 2 hours outside Tokyo and you will have the place to ourselves
I found the ski rentals good enough for an advanced skier. Pleasingly the hotel provides good ski lockers so of a morning it’s easy to gear up & ski out to get on a lift. I have no complaints about the hotel
A Japanese Australian gave me excellent advice
For instance: First, There is a ski mat in the beginners area but they never turned it on! After watching my novice partner spend 45 minutes of the first hour trudging up a gently slope with her ski instructor to learn how to do “pizza skis” down I asked why it wasn’t working
Secondly, from the bottom of Okushiga Kogen you cannot ski from the beginners lift to the other more advanced lift even though it’s downhill! You have to trudge across a flat & up a small slope because of the way they have roped off the areas

Additionally, we left a very meaningful personal item at the hotel. The staff was so incredibly kind to find the missing item and mail it to us. It meant the world to us that they went to so much trouble
Ski lodge situated at the top of Nozawa Onsen village. The lodge comprises a dry room, lobby, dining room and TV area on the first floor. All guest rooms are on the second floor
Rooms come with breakfast and the hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the gondola, into the village and pick up and drop off for check in and check out. The rooms are spacious with luggage and hanging space
Location is great between the courtesy bus and local shuttle buses it makes easy to get around
I personally found everyone extremely helpful as I was injured in this trip and they have really gone out of their way to assist me! Spacious common area to play a family game or have a drink together
Wonderful place in a perfect location very close to town. Rooms well heated, great lay out and lounge area - I felt so relaxed there. Staff were very friendly and helpful

Nozawa Onsen, 6739-11, Toyosato, 389-2502 Nodzavaonsen, uezd Simotakai, Prefektura Nagano, Yaponiya 🧭 Map
Really good ski resort with lovely small village. It is a calm and relaxed place probably not the best for partying. Ski resort has some really nice and runs.
The rooms : we had five beds with a mix of Japanese and very comfortable western style mattresses with comfy pillows. Breakfast : amazing and changed every day. Snowboarding : well!!! Amazing
Friendly staff. Good facilities and close walk to lifts.
Central apartments staff so friendly Jess was lovley could not do enough for you. Very clean great location to ski feild restaurants. Starter pack for breakfast was a nice touch eggs bread cearl
Special thanks to Saki , Akira and the rest of the polite and attentive staff for making our trip unforgettable. For dinner or lunch I’d strongly suggest “sparina” (the paid onsen)
Villa Nozawa was a really great place to stay for the few days we were there. Prices are cheap when considering there are ski lift packages, and rooms are a very comfortable size

The rooms are a little dated but perfectly comfortable. We had a fantastic view from our room. Nice touch have drinks free for guests in the lobby (sake was on offer for some of the evening hours
The hotel's distance from Nagano JR station is decent. On our first day, it snowed, and navigation led us down a difficult side road. I'd recommend sticking to the main road; it's quite convenient and not much further
We have limited Japanese and no Japanese phone number and they even called our next hotel to help arrange us getting their shuttle bus which we would not have managed alone
This was a brilliant hotel to stay in, about a 10 minute walk from the train station. The staff at reception were incredibly kind and helpful
Yes yes yes. Will book again.
Great food choices.
We stayed at rooms with mountain view .
Helpful, friendly staff too.
Overall, the environment is good, and the service is excellent. They also have a Kaiseki restaurant on the top floor

Nagano, 2-8-5 Minamichitose 🧭 Map
Excellent hotel near the station, clean and with excellent services and a medium-sized room for Japan, excellent
It's a bit of a walk from Nagano Station and Zenkoji Temple, so it might not be the best location for sightseeing
Nice hotel near from nagano station about 10 menitus walk, have onsen only for men. Clean hotel. Smooth Chek in and out through machine.
The large public bath was very comfortable. I would like to use it again when I visit Nagano.
I chose a plan that included meals, and they prepared a variety of Nagano specialties, which were delicious. The large public bath was small, which was a bit disappointing
It also seems like you have to share towels, which might be inconvenient for people staying multiple nights

Nagano, Minami Chitose 2-15-8 🧭 Map
This hotel has a hot spring, which is great for relaxing. It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the station, so if there's heavy snow, be prepared for a bit of a challenge with your luggage
Excellent hotel. Great value for money, and its location very close to the station is incredibly convenient. Highly recommended.
Good and pleasant experience. Thank you.
The location was excellent, close to the train station, restaurants, shopping and the main sights in town
It was our second short stay and this time we had a twin room. The room was very spacious, which we appreciate as many rooms in Japan are fairly small. The little onsen is perfect for getting a deep cleanse after travels
I like Nagano and the hotel. I enjoyed my staying here. The hotel is located very close to Nagano station, the room was comfortable and clean and has a view on the mountains. There is also a public bath.
