Shimaya in Yamanouchi

We loved it there. This town is about a 15 minute walk to Shu

Clean room, comfortable, simple breakfast
And good location. It is exactly as described.

Ichiro, the innkeeper, was very kind and even drove us to the snow money reserve and back free of charge. Nice to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan. Highly recommended.

Convenience: It is a 7-minute walk from Yudanaka Station, but we went there in February when it snowed. We were inexperienced for the first time and dragged our suitcases up the snowy road. We were almost angry. So it is recommended to bring a backpack if you come to Yudanaka for a day or two.
Facilities: Both the private and public baths are on the first floor, but the private bath is very small and can only accommodate two adults; the public bath area does not provide makeup removers and extra towels, so remember to bring your own if you want to take a bath.
Service: We went there on a weekend in February. On that day, almost all the hot spring hotels in Yudanaka were full, so the store also said that it was very busy. No dinner was provided, and the breakfast was also very simple (only milk, coffee, yogurt, toast and fruit, 700 yen/person), but the store sent us to the Snow Monkey Park and Yudanaka Station for free. After all, Shimaya is the best hotel selected by TripAdvisor for 24 years. I guess if there were not so many people, the store service should be better.

I highly recommend this hotel! The old man was very enthusiastic. He asked us about our full itinerary for the next day, arranged a round-trip pick-up for us in the morning at the Wild Monkey Park, and recommended the next stop, Obuse, to us, making our entire trip very smooth and comfortable.
The hotel is also well decorated. It is bright and spacious outside, warm and artistic inside. There are many paintings on the wall, and many literary and artistic film and television works are also displayed in the cafeteria. It can be seen that the old man and the old woman are both more literary people.
In short, it is very fun to come to Yudanaka, and this hotel will not disappoint you

Wonderful stay at Shimaya - Mr Yamuto is super helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable, nice onsen onsite was nice. Great value stay for the snow monkeys!

Incredible staff, they were so helpful to us in getting to and from the hotel. If you want a unique and truly unforgettable experience I would recommend staying at shimaya during your time at Yamonochi.

Because we wanted to watch the fireworks festival and experience the hot springs, we booked a room here. We were greeted by a grandfather. It was a little late and raining when we arrived at Yudanaka. The grandfather came to pick us up. It was very comfortable to soak in the hot springs. Yudanaka should not be the peak tourist season. Maybe we arrived too late and left too early. The road was very deserted and there were not many people.
