Suginoya in Saga

The dinner is perfect specially the wagyu beef. The breakfast is so so. The staffs are very friendly.

The in-room bidet toilet could not spit out water, and it never gotten fixed for my 2 day’s staying.

This guesthouse is truly an idyllic escape! After getting off the bus at the final stop, Google Maps still indicated a 400-500 meter walk. The uphill trek along a secluded path felt like a journey of transformation, preparing us for something special. As soon as we opened the door to our room, we knew it was worth every step. The wonderfully homey atmosphere instantly made us forget the fatigue from the climb. We quickly made our way to the public bath to indulge in the hot spring, then returned to our room to relax and await our delicious meal. Despite the language barrier, we were deeply touched by the owners' incredibly friendly and accommodating nature. It was clear that 'service above all' was deeply ingrained in their ethos. Tranquil, serene, and utterly comfortable – these words perfectly describe our entire stay. P.S.: You can ask the owners to provide pick-up and drop-off service from the station, especially if you have luggage. Otherwise, that uphill climb will certainly make your legs weary!

You can take bus 73 from Saga JR Bus Station all the way to the final stop. Suginoya is visible halfway up the mountain right after you alight. You can call the ryokan for a pick-up service, as the path up the mountain is very steep and walking would be challenging.

Each room boasts a private onsen. The communal bath was also wonderful; I visited three times and never encountered anyone else, giving me the feeling of having the entire place to myself. Furuyu Onsen is a low-temperature carbonated spring, which means you can soak for a long time without feeling dizzy. The water felt incredibly silky smooth to the touch, unmistakably a 'beauty spring'.

Both breakfast and dinner were incredibly generous. The caramel pudding and yuzu ice cream served after dinner were simply divine.

Upon our arrival, it was raining heavily, so our shoes got completely soaked. The hotel staff took them to dry and cleaned them meticulously, which was a testament to their excellent service.

After checking out, we also requested a staff member to drive us to the red iron bridge at the foot of the mountain. We enjoyed the scenic drive and took photos along the way, feeling completely at ease.

It’s an absolute bliss to stay in Suginoya, a luxurious ryokan in Saga. Our saga beef sukiyaki dinner was truly memorable as the quality of the meat was top notch- so soft yet flavorful, something we will remember for a long time. We enjoyed relaxing in the private and public bath, soaking in the zen vibes of the hotel and lounging in the spacious and comfortable room. Staff was friendly and tried to converse in English as best as possible. 100% recommend as we felt fully pampered here like it was our honeymoon all over again!

The hotel is located on a hillside, so it's a bit of a trek from the bus stop if you're carrying luggage. The outdoor hot springs have been renovated, but men no longer have access to an outdoor spring. On the positive side, the service was excellent, and the overall ambiance was great.

The picture is the same as the real environment, quiet and comfortable, the room is big, and the service is good, but you must drive to the hotel by yourself
