Description
Bergen Budget ApartHotel is a 2-star property offering a variety of room types including dorm beds, standard single, double, family, and quadruple rooms. The hotel provides essential amenities like air conditioning, heating, WiFi, free parking, and a shared kitchen. Despite its budget-friendly pricing starting at $25 USD, guest reviews highlight significant issues with cleanliness, security, and maintenance. Some guests have reported problems such as blocked showers, poor hygiene in toilets, broken locks, and uncomfortable noise levels. The hotel operates with private check-in and check-out, but customer service has been criticized for lack of responsiveness and unresolved refund issues. Pets are not allowed. The building was noted to have a lift, and some guests appreciated the central location and basic modern bathroom facilities, but overall the hotel struggles to meet basic standards expected even at budget level.

Reviews
Staff offered a refund if we left immediately—but finding alternative accommodation at short notice was not possible, leaving us stuck in unacceptable conditions.
This isn’t just about budget—this is about basic standards of hygiene, safety, and honesty. We were offered €25 as a gesture, which frankly feels like an insult given the state of the place.
Serious warning to young females travelling alone:
This property did not feel secure or appropriately monitored. Communal areas were in a shocking state, and the atmosphere was uncomfortable. I would not recommend this place to any solo female traveller.
Hotels.com should seriously reconsider listing this property. It falls far below even the most forgiving standards. Avoid.
-DOUBLE do not stay here if you are a SOLO FEMALE!!!!
-they let a man sleep in women’s only dorm
-cleaners were in the entire hostel for less than 40 mins, they only stripped the beds and vacuumed one line though the hallway
-creepy regulars (old men, one of them trapped me near the bathroom)
-cleaners asking guests which bed they were staying in to strip the beds
-allocated bed was changed because of this, what allocated beds? 🤣
-kitchen is DISGUSTING
-DRYER DOESNT DRY, be weary of this, don’t do a load of washing and expect your clothes to be dry after using the dryer
-when I reported that there was a man in the women’s dorm they wanted me to call someone else, I stated that they need to call someone else, as it would make me unsafe to call and report this and additionally this is literally their job???
-the place is unclean
-smells bad
-curtains/blinds broken in the dorm
-dorm door does not lock
-I was provided a locker and code and I opened it however someone’s stuff was in there
-shower was COLD
-people hanging around the outside of the hostel, if they know the code they can get straight in and there are no locks on dorm doors
-this place deserves negative stars
-photos attached so that they don’t claim this is a fake review!
DO
NOT
STAY
Pros; centrally located, actually quite modern, good and modern bathrooms and of course the price and you Even get a towel!
Cons:
-they use the loudest beds I ever used, everytime you sratch yourself you have to try not to wake up the whole room
-Lockers look like it’s better to just leave your stuff outside, there is no security despite a code on the front door, some lockers are broken and they are very small
-you can’t open the windows (in a Room Full of people it gets really hot and sticky!)
-You either have a bed which is brightened from the outside trough the window or from the emergency exit sign - look at the picture attached, that is how dark it gets, that’s the room with all lights turned off! It’s just so bright, curtains around the bed don’t cost much and would definetly help a lot!
-No place to put your stuff, there are some lockers but they can barely fit a backpack, so you have to put everything on your bed
- the bathrooms are fine, but there are only two. The hostel has about a capacity of 40-50 people, that’s way too few bathrooms for everyone
- it’s just so noisy, the bedrooms are literally next to the kitchen with no isolation whatsoever and even though you can’t open the windows you can hear everything from the street just as if there would be no window at all
Come on, this could actually be a decent cheap Place but somehow they managed to make it bad on purpose
You cannot call this a hotel. Customer service is non-existent. We booked a twin room, but got it changed to a family room due to being with more people. When we arrived, we got the twin room instead of the family room. We called the customer service, which gave us an extra (broken) bed that did not actually fit in the room. On the phone though, they said they would "fix the situation the next day and reach out to us".
Well, they did not. When I called them to ask them if anything was arranged, he said "someone is coming". That someone was the cleaning lady who only got a text from a boss saying "some people have problems in room XX". Obviously, she could not help us.
I communicated with the boss / manager later on via text, who wouldn't to my messages respond until I finally said "If nothing happens in the next 2 hours, I will charge the money back from my creditcard because this is not what we paid for". After that message, he immediately got back to me, and later on we agreed on a 60% refund (1800 NOK) so we could get out of town to rent a car and get a decent place to sleep at.
After a month, no sign of a refund was there. I tried to message them, mail them but no response was given. Later on, I called them and they finally refunded me. Well.... only a small portion of the amount we agreed on. This did not cover the costs of our rental car and new hotel.
As of now, the owners don't respond to any messages anymore. I wouldn't call this a complete scam, but our experience was the worst we ever had in any hotel. This doesn't deserve more than 1 star, even though it could have been 4-5 stars.
