Ocean View in Bentota

This is an absolute gem of a place. My friend and I spent two weeks here and the owner was absolutely lovely. We had fresh fruit for breakfast with fresh juice and the option of boiled or fried eggs or an omelette. It’s quirky and has a train line in front of the sea view rooms. It’s a two minute walk to a stunning beach and Ocean View is situated next to a bar which serves food as well as drinks. I would go back in a heartbeat.

We stayed here for a little over two weeks in the garden section of the hotel, our room was clean and tidy with suitable mosquito netting provided. The room was regularly cleaned and new towels provided. The staff at Ocean View are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We are planning a return trip to Sri Lanka to include this hotel. There is a train track, its novelty did not wear thin or cause us an issue, Bentota beach is unspoilt, not over commercialised and quiet - perfect for some but not for all. We loved the soft, sandy beach and the minimal noise of an evening. The food is fab in Bentota, as were the breakfasts at Ocean View. Thank you, just an honest perspective without too much fluff to consider.

Very pleasant stay. Definitely worth the money. Right next to a lovely beach.
Only downside was the railway line, but not put off by it. Would stay again.

It's 1 minute from the beach and has its own restaurant (the prices are the same as elsewhere, the portions aren't huge, but they're not small either; we often shared a meal; the food is pretty much the same in all the restaurants). The staff is very polite. The Deluxe room is spacious and has air conditioning and a fan. We had a couple of huge cockroaches the first two days, but we got rid of them and haven't seen them since. There were also some small ants in the bathtub, but they disappeared after our first day. We stayed in room 01 on the second floor and had no mosquitoes, but others complained about the mosquitoes being numerous and the canopy over the bed not helping, perhaps because our windows faced the beach, while others had windows facing the forest (on the other side of the building). The train tracks are right outside, but you quickly get used to them and don't wake up from the noise. The first train leaves at about 5 a.m., and the next one at 8 a.m. Upon check-in, you're given toilet paper and two small bars of soap, so you'll need to bring your own shampoo and shower gel. You can ask for a kettle; they provide one for free, plus two mugs. There's a refrigerator, a table, and a dresser with a mirror in the room.
Around February 12, volleyball players (about 60 people) arrived for three weeks and took over the entire beach, setting up nets and playing from morning until evening, with a lunch break from noon to 3 pm. One thing I didn't like was that it was difficult to get to the water through the swarms of flying balls. There are only eight sun loungers near the hotel, and when we went to the beach in the morning, the staff escorted us to our loungers and made sure we had enough space (a special thank you!). Locals say this is the second year in a row that volleyball players have been coming here.

A supermarket is 20 minutes from the hotel, and small shops selling water, cookies, and household goods are located along the road (a 1-2 minute walk).

This charming small hotel is just perfect for a relaxing holiday by the ocean. Even the railway adds character and the beach is stunning and spotless. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. Fish freshly caught offered daily is a delight. It was hard to leave this lovely place!

The hotel is medium sized or rather small, with two buildings: one secluded with a big terrace and a beautiful garden view, and one with an ocean/beach view (next to not that buisy train tracks). Everything about the hotel's arrangement is modest, but charming, and the staff is most helpful, hospitable and friendly. Everything about this place made a wonderfull impression for our stay in Sri Lanka, this isn't another huge generic hotel with no soul! I highly recommend this place!
