Mary's Palm Garden in Hikkaduwa

Mary Palm Garden is a wonderful place run by a very kind and welcoming family. Everyone, including the head of the family, is always ready to help with any local questions and practical advice.
At my request they picked us up from Colombo, and when it was time to leave they also drove us to the airport. It was not just a transfer. Our driver gave us a real sightseeing tour of Colombo and showed us Gangaramaya Temple, Seema Malaka, Lotus Tower, the National Museum, Independence Square and the port area.
At the National Museum there was a confusing situation. The museum has several buildings. Our tickets were taken in the zoological section even though they should not have been, and in the second building we were asked to buy tickets again at full price. Our driver spent a long time arguing with the staff and defended us, so we did not have to overpay.
The beach and many cafes, restaurants and small shops are about a 10 minute walk away.
The house itself is located in a quiet forest area. Black leaf eating monkeys often run around the property, and many beautiful birds can be seen and heard there.
Motorbikes can usually be parked safely inside the property in the evening.
In the evenings we had very interesting conversations about local roads, wildlife and religion.
The owner’s wife and daughter prepare a very tasty breakfast, and they are happy to adjust it to whatever options you ask for.
We stayed on the third floor in a very spacious apartment, about 100 square meters. It has a kitchen with a fridge, stove and sink, and a large balcony with a view of the green area in front of the gate and the swimming pool.
And a special mention goes to the local four legged security guard, Juno. He always checks unknown visitors who try to approach the gate.
If and when I come back to Hikkaduwa, I will definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.

Very nice, small villa owned by a wonderful family. Quiet and clean.

I had the most wonderful stay at Marys Palm Garden! I was travelling alone for the first time in Sri Lanka, and was a bit nervous. At Marys Palm Garden, I felt safe and welcome!
The room was beautiful and very clean, as was the bathroom and all of the hotel! The bed was very comfortable and the balcony the perfect place to hang out at, even during heavy rain. The breakfast Tharindus mother prepared was delicious (with fruit from their garden!), and they took great care of me, for example helped me to get to Colombo. The hotel is in a quiet area, and you can walk easily to the beach and the main part of town. Therefore: 10/10, the perfect place to stay in Hikkaduwa!

Ikkaduwa is a very touristy town, so if you're looking for somewhere to be a bit secluded, quiet but still be able to walk to the centre and access all the activities, this is the perfect place.

We met the whole host family who are really very warm and friendly and who we really want to see again when we come back to Sri Lanka.

An unforgettable place.

During our travel (jan-feb 2022) around Sri lanka, Mary Palm Garden remain the best villa we have stayed at. We started the journey there and then decided that will spend there the last two weeks of our vacation too.
The rooms are morden and well equipped. Beautiful new bathroom and spacious balcony. Very comfortable bed. Each room feels very private thanks to great plan of the villa. There are no neighboring balconies and the soundproof seemed to be very good. To be honest that was literally the best room we have seen in Sri Lanka.
The villa itself is situated in a lovely area next to Hikkaduwa, a bit hidden in jungles. You can see parrots and big monkeys on the trees next (do not worry monkeys there do not come to people, they just watch you :)). It is not far away from the beach - 5 min walk. To the main surfing point - 15 min walk or 2 bus stops. There are many of shops and restaurants in this area too. We reccommend to try curry they cook at the villa.
The family who run the house are amazing and very kind people! You will enjoy your stay there for sure!
