I had a wonderful stay at this hotel in Galle. The decoration is absolutely stunning — every detail is thoughtfully designed and beautifully executed. The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful, with a lovely vibe that makes you relax. The menu and food are very well curated, adding even more to the overall experience.
The staff really make the difference: professional, attentive, and extremely polite. You immediately feel welcomed and taken care of, which makes the stay even more special.
If you want to fully experience the magic of Sri Lanka, this hotel is a perfect choice. Its central location, very close to Galle Fort, makes it ideal for exploring while still enjoying a calm and refined setting. I would definitely recommend it.

Very disappointing experience at The Merchant – Galle Fort.
Sri Lanka is known all over the world for its warm hospitality and kindness. Unfortunately, this place shows the complete opposite. It feels like they only see guests as money bags, nothing more.
As a chauffeur guide who brought guests to the restaurant after driving for many hours, I expected at least a basic level of courtesy. Even a simple cup of water or a small gesture of respect for the driver was too much to expect. The entire focus seemed to be only on the paying guests and their wallets.
Hospitality is not only about serving the people who pay the bill. It is also about respect for everyone involved in the journey, including the drivers who work long hours to bring visitors safely to your establishment.
Sadly, this was an eye-opening experience, and it does not represent the true Sri Lankan hospitality that our country is famous for.
Very disappointed.

Had a wonderful stay at The Merchant Galle Fort. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the service was excellent, and the food was absolutely delicious. The room was clean, comfortable, and very well maintained. Everything felt easy and welcoming from start to finish. Truly a great experience, Thank you to Chamika and the team—would definitely visit again and highly recommend!

Went to have dinner with my family. Beautiful outdoor area with indoor A/C facility. It was a pretty hot night so decided to stay indoor. Food was curved without any delay. Grilled prawn ,olive oil and garlic dipper was the best dish I had. Food was so good and the potion was pretty big. Service was amazing. Food is a bit expensive than the other restaurant but it’s a worth of trying

We visited The Merchant Restaurant in Galle Fort for dinner and we had a wonderful time. The restaurant is located in a beautiful colonial building with a garden and a terrace. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and well-presented. I ordered the signature Galle Biryani, which is a mixed rice dish with chicken, spices, and buffalo curd. It was very flavorful and satisfying. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. We enjoyed the ambience and the live music in the courtyard. It was a great dining experience and we would definitely recommend The Merchant Restaurant to anyone visiting Galle Fort.

We went to Merchant for a dinner out. Had their curry pasta, chicken burger and blue ocean virgin mojito which was soo yum. Portion sizes were so big although prices are bit on the higher side.Great vibe with the nicest staff. 😁

Can’t say anything about the rooms or the food as we were looking for a place to have a nice dinner and some drinks. The waiters although didn’t mind serving us once we have been seated as 6 of them were simply standing around and talking to each other rather than taking care of their customers! We left after 15 minutes of no service!
Also the prices were a total rip off - they were asking for 1700 Ruppies for a small can of beer, which you usually get for well below 1000 at any other restaurant! Would not recommend!

A gorgeous elegant spot to grab breakfast or dinner.
Set in a beautiful lush courtyard, amazing live singer the first night I went down.
Great coffee and breakfast options , service was impeccable, WiFi super fast which was a god send for working.
A little oasis the perfect place to get some r&r after sight seeing.

The hotel is rustic and authentic. It is no generic international standard hotel by any stretch but it is classy, arty and boutique. In a quiet backstreet but an easy walk anywhere around the fort. Breakfast is delicious and very good but can become a bit repetitive if staying more than a day so a couple of other options to select would be good. Service is very good and friendly from staff.

We had the best stay at Prince of Galle. Such a lovely location, with beautiful interior design and thoughtful attention to detail. A real highlight for us was the friendly and genuinely caring service from Rukman, Kapila, and Sarengh, who made sure we were well looked after throughout our stay. The breakfast was also fantastic. Truly a little gem in Galle, we would definitely come back. Thank you to the whole team for making our stay so special.

Don’t think twice about staying here, Prince of Galle is a real gem. Effortlessly stylish with classic colonial charm, perfectly located inside Galle Fort with everything within easy walking distance. The staff are exceptional and genuinely go above and beyond. Rooms are small but beautifully done and completely in keeping with the building’s character. The iced tea really is the best, and breakfast is on another level. Highly recommended.

This is a beautiful colonial style hotel on a quiet side street within the fort itself. We were lucky enough to stay in the Kings Residence on the top floor. The style of the property is Sri Lankan colonial but with western comforts like air conditioning. The top floor suite includes an open plan sitting area with chairs and access to a small terrace to view the sunset.
The staff are so welcoming and pandered to our every need. The breakfast justifies its billing as superb and is a lovely combination of Sri Lankan flavours served in a western style.

Recently visited here and absolutely loved every minute of my stay. From the moment I arrived, the hotel felt special, a perfect blend of historic charm and refined modern luxury, set in a truly serene atmosphere. The rooms were exceptionally comfortable, immaculately maintained, and offered breathtaking views that made the morning memorable. What truly stood out, however, was the staff. They were warm, attentive, and sincerely welcoming, making me feel valued throughout my stay. Every detail felt thoughtfully curated, from the ambience to the service.
