Not fit for purpose. Sleep is my number one requirement for accommodation, boutique or not. The rooms were so hot I couldn’t sleep. The host was rude consistently when asked about anything always “can’t do” when asked about the WiFi not working her response “you think it’s a problem for you it’s a problem for me”, no apology. Then despite paying for a coffee I wasn’t allowed to leave until payment had cleared despite showing it had left my account. I said nothing at all to antagonise or complain. She even told a fellow guest to take a holiday as she “wasnt relaxed”. Having extensively travelled in Sri Lanka over 14 consecutive years I am on a position to honestly write this review. Nice setting. Rude host.

Great hotel with clean, modern rooms and very friendly staff. The location was perfect — close to everything but still quiet. Breakfast was fresh and had a good variety. I felt very welcome and well taken care of. Would definitely stay here again!

Bitter disappointment despite good potential
We were really impressed with the location, and it comes with 3 dogs (which is always s plus!).

Sadly, a few things marred the experience. Hot water is rather non existent. You get warm water after running the shower for a long time, which is a terrible waste.

The dogs are left out at night and they can bark extensively and no one seems to care.

The main gate to the property is left open which doesn't seem to be very safe. I guess the dogs are there for this reason, but then when the dogs kept barking no one went to check if there were intruders...

There are no coffee facilities in the room, nor telly. This may not be s big thing, but worth noting.

Finally, Renata, the owner, is a very nice lady but quick at upselling you anything. A second cup of coffee at breakfast? Charge. A healthy shot? Charge.
The most annoying thing was that I was unwell one day and asked for some hot water. Renata insisted I had to take some herbs that were going to be good for me. I declined but to no avail. I accepted it. At check out, we got charged!! What sounded like a kind gesture was a way to get money out of us. Cost recovery? At €2, it seems pure profiteering. Sorry, not the boutique retreat experience we expected.

I had an amazing Time and a wonderful stay at the Kirinuga Retreat. The staff was very kind and totally helpful if you had questions you always could ask and they helped immediately and with pleasure. I had the biggest room and it was comfy the patio is the highlight at all. You also can take surf lessons with the best surf teacher in Tangalle. He is very friendly and flexible and he tells you all you need to know about the waves and techniques with the long board. Perfect for biginners or pro’s. I would definitely recommend the Retreat cause it feels like a second home and with the owner even more. She build something special and I’m sure all the people who stays at this retreat would say the same like me.

Very delicious foods are available. Super service and relax place to take a dinner. We can spend our leisure time freely with our partner in this place.

I stayed there for three days and the room was very clean.
Foods were okay and they specialized in seafood. This is more than worth the price that I paid.

Place is really good.. Friendly staff. Price is very low. Foods are really good... room is very good. I can recommend this place for foreigners as well as for locals.

Great hotel! Clean room, great service from start to finish and a world class beach literally across the street. Would definitely come back. This hotel is well above it's price class

Also, I forgot something in the room when checking out, and the owner has arranged to have it sent to me in Colombo. Can't beat that!
