Reviews
But regarding the safari we did the location was perfect.
Strong points:
• Modern, spacious rooms, tastefully furnished. Good-quality Wi-Fi, which is not common in Sri Lanka outside major cities.
• Very attentive and helpful staff—something often found in Sri Lanka, but still worth highlighting as it is far less common in other parts of the world.
• The welcome gift for our honeymoon: a flower pathway and swans on the bed. It was the most beautiful we have seen.
• The gardens, and especially the swimming pool, are well designed. The only downside: exposed concrete and a lack of greenery between the pathways give the impression that construction is not fully finished.
Alongside these pleasant surprises, there were some small (and larger) disappointments:
• First and foremost, the prices. Without mentioning the rooms, the restaurant and additional services (such as safaris) are overpriced. Everything is quoted in US dollars, which already sends a negative signal, and the prices are comparable to those in Europe or the US.
• The restaurant is the main issue. There is a clear attempt to offer a high-end experience, with a slightly more refined dinner menu, nice plating, and elegant tableware. However, the quality of the food does not live up to this ambition. In our fish nuggets and chicken pieces, we found nothing but cartilage.
• Then, why waste the comfort of the room by requiring guests to go to reception to get a hairdryer, or to activate hot water in the shower? It costs nothing and it’s a standard feature found everywhere, even in Sri Lanka.
• Finally, the feeling we were left with as guests—and this is truly unfortunate—is that hotel management prioritizes profitability, and that staff attentions feel somewhat transactional, even though this is not necessarily the case.
In short, it is a beautiful hotel with great potential, but the owners’ perception of it does not yet match the reality of the experience.
So calm. We had a very nice dinner their.
Thanks to René, our dinners were even more fantastic because we would share stories.
We recommend!
There is plenty of wildlife in the grounds of the hotel, early evening by the pool is a great place to see the birds and ubiquitous ground monitors coming for a drink.
The food is excellent and varied.
