It is a friendly family run hotel. We found staff very cheerful and helpful. Our room was a decent size and clean and overlooked the pool and garden. The pool is very large and well maintained and the garden is lovely. While we were there we had some very nice meals. Tip: ask them to buy in some fresh fish or seafood for your evening meal - good quality and reasonably priced. The place is located reasonably near Yala National Park - it’s about a 30 drive to the entrance. Another tip: go and see the bats at 6.15pm - they will know what you are talking about.

The hospitality was exceptional, making us feel truly welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. The rooms were incredibly comfortable, providing a perfect retreat after a day of exploring the city. The beautiful pool added a relaxing touch, making it a great spot to unwind with friends, family, or even as a couple. The food was fantastic—delicious and beautifully prepared, adding to the overall enjoyment of our visit. It's a charming and well-maintained place that I highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a pleasant stay in Colombo. Definitely a place to revisit!

When we checked in, we were given two rooms (2 adults and 2 children, aged 5 and 7) for a stay of two nights. The restaurant was clean and fresh. However, when we got to our rooms, they felt unclean and worn. I could hear scratching noises coming from the ceiling, but at first I thought it was someone working at the hotel. When my husband went to the bathroom with our daughter, he also heard the scratching and saw an animal sticking part of its head out through a hole in the ceiling. There is a pine marten living in the ceiling. The hotel staff were aware that an animal was living there. We wanted to check out immediately to find another hotel, as we could not stay with an animal living in the building. We had only been checked in for about two hours, yet we still had to pay for a full night. This was very unprofessional behavior by the hotel.

The hotel grounds are well kept gardens and a big pool area, but beware of the millions of mosquitoes. The whole place overall is a bit lifeless and run down. The beds around the pool are torn. The rooms are old, we had the creakiest, most uncomfortable bed, very old air conditioner, and the bathroom is big but very outdated and needs a really good clean. If you are on the ground floor, the upstairs room and stairs are very loud. The one staff member that we dealt with was pleasant. Did not eat here apart from the included good breakfast as it was always so quiet. They do provide a takeaway breakfast for the early safari which is good. There's a big parking area and the location is tucked away down a quiet road. But overall would not come here again. However Tissa itself is not a nice place either. Compared to Ella and Sigiriya, there is no effort to make this a nice area for tourists. The restaurants are scruffy and all the people seem to just want to make money off you. It is much more expensive to eat here than everywhere else we have travelled so far (Negombo, Kandy, Sigirya, Ella). We did not go to Yala as it gets bad reviews (even from locals) for being too busy and at risk of animal exploitation. Every jeep safari is a private tour which is not good for eco-tourism, so every morning we were told that about 200 jeeps queue through the park looking for a leopard which you have a 50% chance of seeing. We did a safari to Bundala NP instead through 'Yala Leopard Eye Safaris' and it was wonderful. Our guide was so knowledgeable and it was like we had the park to ourselves and we saw everything that you get to see in Yala, plus thousands of amazing bird species.

Stayed for 1 night before the safari. The rooms are small but clean and well maintained. Good mattresses, quality linen👍
Excellent pool in the shade, had a great rest from the road
The restaurant cooks deliciously, the price is about the same as everywhere else.
The reception helped with the safari, everything was clear and on time

Worn hotel isolated in very little city close to Yala park. Positive Friendly helpful staff. Close to Yala park, short commute distance when going on safari in the early morning. Negative Room dark and worn, very old fashioned. Selection of food and breakfast food pack for Early morning safari trip. We were asked what we would like to eat for dinner upon arrival at 14:00, even though the dinner was at 19:00. Breakfast package not good. Food quality in general nothing special. Pool was not clean, water was not transparent and filled with smaller particles, that resembled sun cream and other remains. Our children did not want to use it. Located in small village, not much to do, end of long gravel road with no lights, so we did not feel comfortable to go out for dinner. Positive side is the very friendly staff, but it is not a place we would recommend or consider visiting again. .

Great tucked away resort... Being one of the very few guests during my stay, I got full attention and felt well looked after. Pool was nice and breakfast very good, I recommend this place for overnight if going to Yala for a safari.

The hotel is located not far from Yala national park. The room was clean

If you're stopping to visit Yala it is a worthy place to stay. Didn't dip in the pool but the room was spacious, clean with a balcony provided. Staff were helpful, especially after I had inexplicably left a bag behind. There's a few really good restaurants within a 10 minute walk away worth checking out.
